Sadly I don't think he races at all, I follow him on social media as I'm sure most of you all do as well and he hasn't mentioned one word about training or anything. Chad is an attention whore (meant with respect) he wouldn't (in my opinion) just show up as a surprise and try to qualify w/o making a big deal about it on social media first. I think him and the family have moved back to FL and split time between there and AU.

I think the WSX crash and injury took the wind out of his sails

Maybe its time to release 22 to current riders.

Maybe he's saving it for another aussie to pick it? I wonder if Jett or Hunter would want it.

I think he could qualify for the main. It would be a hell of a story as the oldest to ever do it.

I thought I heard RJ wanted it, not sure why not that big of a difference looks wise from 24 to 22 unless it was to pay homage to Chad.

As a big Reed fan I wanna agree, but in reality I'd have to say no way. At times he struggled in his last season to make it I don't see him being able to do that now. I'd say 5-10 place in LCQ.

Didn’t rj run it in amateur because Chad helped him out training? It was definitely one of the geico kids/guys. Thinking it was RJ because he was in florida.

Is he appreciably faster than his last couple years of “racing”? He was rolling around in 18th and went to most LCQs. Put down the pipe my dude

Agreed. I don't think he could quality and that's even with some big names out: Musquin, Ferrandis, Mookie

I 100% believe that Chad Reed could beat Freddy Noren, Logan Karnow, Grant Harlan, etc. Right now.

Maybe the WSX crash did make him have second thoughts, but he did reserve number 22 this year.

It was clear he intended to race at least one round this year, but unfortunately that WSX mechanical resulted in some serious injuries and that’s the end of that.

Unfortunate. I hope he enjoyed racing in front of the fans one last time even though it didn't end the way he hoped.

I guess he did come out and do opening Ceremonies last year, so thats a decent send off.

I don't mean any disrespect to those guys! Reed was on his way to beating Grant Harlan in his WSX heat before his crash a few months ago. Reed was also looking keen to beat Noren that night as well.

He hasn't ridden a dirt bike since the crash (Oct. '22) and the family has been living in their motorhome for the past couple of months, there's no way he could get up to speed by Atlanta (or even SLC).

It would be cool to watch him race the Vet classes at Loretta's someday.  I hope he keeps racing but it's not going to be pro SX anymore.

Considering Reedy’s final qualifying time at WSX was only a second off Tomac and Roczen, ( yes I know it was on a simple track, but this guy is at his best on technical tracks) if he’d kept riding and training I think he would have easily qualified at a round this season.
The sometimes qualifying struggle from a few years back is no comparison because he was injured and was not training.
Regardless not going to happen now.

Edit: second and a half…..but about the same pace as Josh Hill and faster than Clason, Harlan, Noren and Starling….and at 40yo with a month or two of training……

Give the 22 up. It’s just a number. Wish they just did away with career numbers and run your place from the series last year.

but I know, I know it’s for the punters and the marketing….

Last time we saw him on a bike he was running with the Hill bros. I think he could at least qualify for the main.
