We’ll see how it plays out but I think Smith is faster and will return the favor. The next race is April 15th so it might be enough time for Smith to cool down. Once deegan gets taken out we’ll see his reaction and we’ll obviously see his dad’s reaction as well. Hopefully they both still say “rubbing is racing” time will tell. But it’s coming.

Second corner Deegan runs him wide and takes lead. Smith makes pass in whoops and Deegan takes him wide making contact. Two corners later Danger Boy tee's him up. Smith loses his shit and runs into the back of Deegan in next corner going down.

If anything Smith was trying to avoid contact the whole time.

Did I get it right?

No

I'm pretty neutral on Deegan, I don't think he deserves the hate he gets, but he's been pretty impressive so far on the track and off. I said so far.

That press conference was a reminder he's a 17 year old kid who was probably ordered to reiterate it was a "racing incident" publicly, no matter what the team is saying internally.

He didn't do a great job and to me it just seemed like he was nervous about not being able to share how he really felt?

Who knows. But even though I've been impressed, this was a pretty decent speed bump on the road to the top.

ETA: It will be interesting to see how the Deegans handle this in the vlog. This is where the social media stuff is a good thing, at least in my opinion.

Whoever asked that question was a complete douche…I could hear his lip quivering

Izer is a great moto man thru and thru. He can say whatever he wants. He's earned that right.

If Jordan Smith was concerned about his title hopes he should’ve realized it was a “qualifier with no points or championship implications” and backed off and settled for just getting in.  He is supposed to be the “Veteran”.   Izer acted like a little boy who didn’t get the answer he wanted from mommy and Hunter’s comment was spot on!   People bitch about everything and have selective amnesia when it’s their guy doing the rubbing.  Can’t have it both ways depending on which end your guy is on.

Exactly, I think all the attention Deegan gets must bother him. All he had to do was blow past him in the woops on the next lap. Smith was obviously faster there.

Glad he thinks the whole thing is a joke.  What we have here is a guy trying to win a heat race and his slower teammate trying to prevent it by playing rollerball. Smith was anything but the aggressor and as always a Deegan trying to deflect blame. Get used to it because it's not going to change anytime soon, same as it ever was.

Nah, Smith has been a train wreck, riding over his head since day one. Why do you think he's been on every damn top team? Should of used his head & made the pass in the woops, the next lap. Deegan is in this championship too, why should he roll over for Smith? Was it Deegans fault he threw it away 2 more times in the heat & twice in the LCQ?

It's amazing to hear so many people try to defend what Deegan did as no big deal. I really don't care who it was, or how "social media" popular a rider is, that was just stupidity. Star doesn't appear to want to handle the public relations side of the trailer trash clown show that everyone watched. Hopefully the AMA will do something...I won't hold my breath though. Not a good look for the sport, for Deegan and especially Star.

Seemed like both guys wanted to F around and find out. Well, we all just found out. Deegan is a kid, on a big stage, with a lot of growing up to do, and given his position what did you expect? He played the game and won, JS lost. JS was also a willing player in the F around and find out game. He found out the bitter end of the stick sucks. Cue ongoing drama and media clips for a few weeks.

Last week we were complaining Moto media was muzzled from talking about Lawrence, now we are upset with tough questions towards Deegan.

Deegan is EASILY going to be this sports most polarizing rider ever. He might already be there.

you guys that are standing up for them pushing back on the media questions, you need to go and watch other real press conferences. When Tiger Woods and his wife were going through their nasty divorce the media would ask him about that in his post round golf interviews. Actually you could even watch the golf series on Netflix called, Full Swing. After their matches they grill them asking them if they were going to join the new LIV series and not even about the match they just played.

Quit acting entitled and answer the questions moto dudes and they won’t keep asking you about it. Plain and simple.

Agreed. Last week the media was roasted on vital for not asking questions when they were told not to. This week they are attacked for asking follow up questions on a question that wasn’t actually answered.

This was not a "racing incident." Deegan tried to punt Smith three times before they ultimately came together a fourth time and Smith went down. Really stupid on Deegan's part. Not a fan of that kind of racing. Being aggressive is one thing but at least 3 out of the 4 run-ins were blatant attempts at running Smith high. What a little cocksucker. He was basically doing what Barcia does when someone is faster than him and trying to pass.

This place is so indecisive. Even if things with the broadcast changed weekly to accommodate people on here, they still would find something to complain about

Not even close to the same. It was Izers clear biased and whiney tone. That was unprofessional at best. How many other times has another rider in a press conference felt the need to step in and basically defend a rival?

Izer came across like a grown man picking on a child.

He was calling bullshit on Deegan's dismissive position that it was just a "racing incident." Anyone with half a brain can watch the sequence of events and clearly see Deegan was being a total dick and trying to take out Smith, which he ultimately succeeded in doing. This warrants some tough questioning from the media, especially since they are teammates and especially since it was just a heat race and especially since Jordan Smith was clearly faster than Deegan.

Wow, you're mad. Who tries to punt somebody off the track going 2mph?

David?

Clearly you have your opinion and it's much different than mine. So we can agree to disagree. But why do I think you won't...

Hunter referred to it as a mistake. That's more than Deegan was willing to admit.

That says a lot.

Only if he is pretty successful. He has a following because he is winning, if he never wins a championship the viewers will disappear one by one as time goes on. It could be a lot of pressure on a kid if he never wins a championship.

I can't disagree with that. I think Deegan locked up a bit because the team told him what he could and couldn't say, but that's just a guess. All I know is it wasn't a good look at all with his attitude in the press conference.

Izer handled it terribly as well I think, but either way the press conference didn't help.

At least it makes it easy for anyone being questioned on a move done on Deegan

Good post.  I also think its telling that most HD fanbois haven't said much about the effort Smith put in during the LCQ after he stalled it and couldn't get the bike restarted.  Smith rode his ass off and made up 10 seconds and 4-5 riders in the last 2 laps to have a shot at making the main.  Anybody that is a true MX/SX race fan would acknowledge that effort, even if it was his own doing for being so far back.  Clearly, he was motivated to get the bike in the main event.  I'd put money on him staying motivated for retribution.

Clearly Hunter was talking to you when making a general comment about social media. TBH it wouldn’t matter what he does, some of you would find a way to put a negative spin on it 🙄

Give me a break.   I agree with him on the "social media warriors" comments.      He still came across as an arrogant prick.

When you watch the “altercation” back you can see Smith being the aggressor after Deegan came out of the whoops hot and Smith tried to go around the outside of him.

You could hear it in his voice that he was getting visibly upset, or you could hear it in his voice that he was getting audibly upset?

Agree, however, Deegan did not take Jordan out. Jordan took Jordan out. 3 times in that race in fact. I appreciate journalists asking tough questions, but they should at least have some merit and make sense.

I have factored that in with my response.       LIke I said earlier, I've been impressed by him in his interviews, he has appeared grounded.   I don't follow social media shit so I have no idea there.     He was just not the same kid that I was impressed with previously last night in that presser.          KIds got talent, that's for sure.  I just hope he doesn't turn into a douche and let it go to his head.
