Watching the 250 post race presser and Max with all the charm and likability in the world, basically calls out the money made racing outdoors isn't worth it for him and to get paid a decent amount of money he is sticking with 250 SX until he is booted out.
While his answer was typically delivered in a way by him that makes the room smile...if this is the case he kindof has a point and TBH I was kindof shocked (but not surprised either), that the core form of the sport seems to being almost kept alive/carried by SX.
25 minute mark if the time stamp doesnt link properly (have had issues linking time stamps on these forums in the past).
Didn’t they get rid of the “point out rule”?
Neither sx or mx purse money is where the riders get rich from(smx sort of changes this)
Looking at his 450 results it's easy to see that the bonus money he's making by being on the podium in 250SX pays more than being outside the top 10 in 450.
Yea it will always be bonus money> purse money

"I went 5-5 last year at southwick and got 1500 bucks, I'm much better off racing supercross only. I'm milking the 250 class as long as I can".
I honestly love that. Can't even hate on that because he is doing the best he can to get as much money as possible out of his last years, I still had to good laugh tho.
considering the pay out at world sx.. i dont blame him
I don't think his comment has much to do with purse. But more to do with bonuses.
1500 for 5-5 at Southwick in the 450 class. Is much harder then 2nd in the 250 clas sx.
And purse is about 4k + bonuses.
250 factory guys isn't it something about
50k for the win
20k for 2nd
And 10k for 3rd.
He could have earned 25k on the weekend.
Not being factory. It's possible him or his team could get contingency and that's 1st 16k, 2nd 10 and 3rd 8k. 10th is even 2k.
I was taken a little off guard listening to that with the woke culture we have going on, I like the honesty haha I hope it doesn't ruin anything for his future.
It’s awesome watching him ride so damn well and enjoying himself.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's win a championship and you get to defend it once then you're out, otherwise ride it for all it's worth.
Who can blame him? It's easy to piss and moan about riders sandbagging, but can anyone here honestly say that they wouldn't d the exact same thing? You get 3x the pay for less work. It's a no brainer.
What an incredible insult to the AMA outdoor championship and the FIM world championship. Coombs and Luongo should be embarrassed that placing in a regional series supports a rider's career better than racing their "premier" series. If that is the case, he has no genuine incentive to go after Hunter. His incentive is to be 2nd or 3rd, and hope Hunter doesn't get injured and drop out of the championship. If Mad Max somehow gets a championship that is one step closer to the end of the cash cow. The system is wacked when a rider is dumb for moving up to a premier class.
oh sh*t, Max rocks! That was a great interview... straight shooter! Love it!
That money goes to the team not the riders. The team decides how much goes to the rider.
You aren't allowed to question DC because he is member of vital. I will say to his defense, Supercross makes a heck of a lot more money than the nationals do.
This just in…
The OEM’s, their title sponsors, some riders and a helluva lot of fans put more emphasis on…
Supercross.
This speaks to how outdoor motocross has been poorly marketed and staged for both fans and potential sponsors since the beginning of time.
For outdoor MX to bring in more money to pay everyone properly, a lot of stuff to be done a lot better.
--Venues with family friendly areas, like a patch of grass and trees for families with kids to sit and watch the races away from the drunks. Pala, Hangtown, and other tracks are like moonscape and too harsh to take young kids.
--Live on board video would go a long way to get more eyeballs on the sport. The technology exists for small Live-Feed cameras and transmitters to be fitted up to bikes or helmets like in F1 or MotoGP or Nascar or IndyCar. Who wouldn't want to see a close race between two riders from on board live?
-- These long camera shots from up high on a tower or drone never capture the speed and brutality of motocross from the rider's view. There needs to be some fresh talent and ideas brought to the TV production. I don't like NASCAR that much, but I watch because of all the creative production values and camera angles and placements they have, it makes it exciting to watch. why can't outdoor motocross try and use some of that creativity?
--Why is there hardly any emphasis on what elite athletes Motocross riders are? Everyone inside this sport knows, but you never hear about the olympic level of fitness the riders possess when watching the broadcast for MXGP or the AMA nationals.
--While I like big boobs and sexy girls, they DON'T belong on television at the start or finish of the race, it contributes to a cheap, trashy image - and to be honest the Monster Girls look like strippers. I'm not going to sit down and watch with my wife and kids if they show a young girl with her Tits out swinging her hips back and forth during the start while holding the 30 second card. It's time this sport grows up a bit in that respect.
The guys who run the outdoors really need to expand their target market beyond young guys who ride dirt bikes and drink Monster or Red Bull. This sport will be in serious trouble if or when the energy drinks pull out of the sport, and there really needs to be more effort put into other outside sponsorship.
I've always thought a race in Texas or somewhere in the East south of Maryland would be obvious. DC always says the southeast is too warm, but then holds two races at Pala one with temps over 100 degrees.
Pit Row
Of course, but like you never mention an overweight persons weight, nobody mentions the outdoor races are no longer of significance and have less prestige than even regional SX racing. It's insulting to Luongo and Coombs, like I stated.
There’s Hot…
And then there’s Hot and Humid
I’m jus’ sayin’…
Um...MTF, GPF, STAR, ALDON, LAWRENCES, STEWART, REED, and many more all live or lived and trained in Fl.
I bet Michigan in Jul is pretty hot and humid, not to mention that Amuature race in late July. Figure the real reason is not about the athletes but the discomfort for fans and assumed low turnout.
Not sure why people give riders shit for staying in the 250 class when we damn well know we’d all do the same thing if we could. Money is money at the end of the day & if max can make way more in the 250s then good for him
I don't know why, but I find him annoying. He just goes on and on and should just keep it short IMO.
Everyone loves the veteran 250 riders as long they don’t start winning or beating their favourite rider.
I recall him breaking his femur a decade ago in supercross and was thinking what a crappy ending to a young career. And here he now back in supercross on the podium all smiles. Something about that success story I like.
???? To me he has always been the same when interviewed, likes riding and does it with a grin & positive attitude. Surely better than some of the robots 🤷♂️🤷♂️
I just a big fan of the team he's racing for...
Yarrive Konsky deserves so much more credit. 2nd in points and consistent podiums isnt bad for a satellite team from Australia.
Plus it keeps his wife happy when he runs up front
So promoters assume nobody goes outside in Florida from May to September? Does Florida just shut down all the Motocross tracks in the summer? DIsney World shuts down? I think we can all agree the south needs a national.
YES
