New 2023 YZ450F

I put taller bars on my 250 last year and didn't realize they don't exactly make the clutch cables with extra length. The bars were only a smidge taller. Just FYI (it cause my clutch to slip a bit - or felt that way) I'm easy on clutches though

Yeah, it all makes a difference for sure. I had the new perch on, at a track where I don’t always gel with the dirt, and on a bike I was still trying to dial in. Too many variables at once for me to decipher between wheel spin and clutch slip. I broke my own rules and paid the price. I’m hoping that’s the case anyhow. It could be just a less reliable clutch that will always be problematic for a guy who likes to use every lever/pedal in just about every corner.

Sure Rekluse would love to make spring conversion and sell it with good profit. Selling whole conversion unit goes long way if you compare it to 40 dollar optional spring.

I dont see why current design would not work great it works great with KTM family and Yamaha streetbikes. There are also option stiffer Diaphragm Clutch Springs for KTM so we will get them for Yamaha also. KTM has build in adjustment in spring you can choose different mounting holes.

Im over 10 hours on mine but havent ridden deep wet sand yet so no problems and pull is way softer than last years so I could see benefit to get stiffer spring for security. I had to run stiffer springs on my 20-22 models in sand.

I asked Keefer if he knows about springs or could give us info what KTM plates part numbers. He havent reply yet and havent found any info else where.

Anyone know if the old holeshot devices work on the new bike? Works connection appears to be different as it’s not listed on RMATV. The pro taper is but I’m curious to know if their the same?

Many times the only difference from one part number to the next for WC holeshot device is simply the paper drilling template they include.  The templates are slightly different to account for the shape of the plastic fork guard.   So, if you buy the one for the old bike, you may need to be a little crafty to mount the button at the right spot on the fork guard.

Wouldn’t hold you’re breath on getting a spring the kx450 has had the same setup since 19 and the 250 since 21 and there is no aftermarket springs for them

Buy the Tamer front AND rear holeshot devices. Both work on the new bike. I don't think there will be a part number change for any brand tho

I’d be happy with OEM plates and fibers so I could ride the bike. Clutch parts don’t seem like too much of an ask 🤷‍♂️

He must be referring to shock springs.

within the past 2 weeks, 7 friends have purchased new '23 YZ450's....with all the rain in SoCal, and now high wind forecast this weekend, sadly most of these bikes will be sitting in our garages over the weekend Sad

Go on his website and look under the 23 YZ. He has a couple maps that he made and it’s easy to copy and put it in your bike.

So, this is the first bike with electric start I’ve owned and having some issues… since the day I bought it, it takes a few minutes to start up. With the choke on or off, nothing really helps. It’s broke in, with about an hour and half on it.

I hold the starter on for about 5 seconds (at most) at a time, and eventually after about 10-15 attempts it’ll finally start. And when it does finally start it’s instant. I only have to press it for no more than a second and it fires right up as it should. It starts up fine after it’s warm too. Only one time when it was cold I tried to bump the starter, then try to start it, and it actually started right up. I thought that was the trick but it hasn’t worked since.

Any advice?

Here is a better representation of the issues I'm having. As I said, this is my first E-start bike I've owned other than a pitbike. I'm no mechanic but I know that this can't be normal.  Another issue that has come up is the back firing as soon as I press the starter. You may need headphones to get the full effect of the video.  I should note that it's not cold weather during this... sunny and 65.

Make sure your choke is not on , turn your Trotlle grip hard forward and cancel the choke.

make sure that the air filter is not restricted, like u forgot plastic bag there?

make sure that the fuel line under gas tank is not pinch or twisted!

I feel like its a battery issue.? It has never wanted to start since the day I bought it.  I heard the dealership is supposed to charge the battery during assembly. Maybe they forgot about it. How often do you guys hook the battery up and charge it?

My 23 came with a bad battery. Wouldn't except a full charge, Dealer never tried it as far as i know so not sure if it would have done what your bike is doing?

Do any of you bother with a normal hour meter on these Yamahas, given that you can always read it from the app?  I can see how it would be easier to just read the meter rather than connect to the bike from the phone, but I don't know if it's worth the install.  Maybe it's just worth popping on a meter that works off vibration?

Once you get used to connecting and checking the app, you’ll find it a much better solution than a standard hour meter. Especially if you use the app to document any and all maintenance you do.

I chose to just use the app. Had a meter on my Honda and it was just one extra "thing"..

I put an hour meter on from the day of purchase so I can track total time. If you replace your Yamaha stock ECU with an aftermarket unit like Vortex, you'll lose the hour meter functionality (Vortex does not have it).

This way ^^^ I am prepared for the impulsive upgrades I am surely to make from the beginning.

Works Connection's hour meter and mount has fit my Yamahas very well. Well worth the price.

Went out to ride with softer springs. Went from 5.0 to 4.85 at front and 58 to 56 at back. Clickers 4 softer from stock/0,3 rounds out shock, 3mm/100mm fork/sag and felt better than stock for my weight. Front felt soft and rear end high before rear spring settled little. Dropped forks to 1,5mm and couple couple clicks harder with 102 sag and fount great balance for fast track.

Seat is so thin at sides/back that i can feel frame sometimes. Weekend will test some Keefer mappings.

After washing bike got error code 8 but it went away before i googled what was it so maybe just water got wrong place.

I had issues with water in my main ecu connector. Worth putting dielectric grease in everything. The ecu is near the mud flap under the battery. Pretty easy to spray with water.

I used three small zip ties to seal the ECU. Also put a little silicone grease around the rubber seal of the connector.

Very good point. Hadn't thought of that. However, I don't think I'll ever take mods that far just to go slow lol.. The stock possibilities are plenty for me..
