Quite possibly one of the greatest short video’s in the history of motocross, passion, pride and mind games as Everts puts one over on James Stewart at the MXDN 2006 at Matterley Basin.

The look on Stewart’s face at the end pretty much says it all and we did feel a bit sorry for him at the time as his bottom lip seemed to quiver - but the Americans did win the overall so hats off to them!

Roll on Italy!

Everts was incredible that whole year. He looked unbeatable. Still unbelievable how he made that pass on James.

Yes. Unbeatable indeed. Good thing Ricky Carmichael trashed his shoulder 2 weeks earlier at Glen Helen huh?

I dont think even a fit RC would have had anything for SE on that day, he was on another planet compared to everyone else the way he rode those deep berms feet planted on the pegs.

To say that a fit Ricky Carmichael would not have had anything for anyone that day is simply a demonstration of the ridiculous. History clearly showed otherwise.

Laughing James was on cruise control for the overall. Anyone that has seen him ride knows that. Good cast though.

And to say RC would have nothing for Everts is even more funny.

I think what said it all is when JS looked at SE and tapped on the Chamberlin trophey that he was bringing home. Everyone up to that point of JS's career was saying he was'nt mature enough to back it down when he should. It was obvious to me when I watched the race that JS was riding to secure the trophey. Which is what he's supposed to do. With that said SE road a great race and in my eyes is the 2nd best mx racer of all time. #'s don't lie.

This is one bone of contention that will neeeeeeeeeeeever go away.

I actually think Stewart did start to ride within himself after Everts passed him in the last race - but Everts beat him straight up in the first race too.

Whats more, Stewart was only 5 seconds behined Everts and almost 20 seconds in front of 3rd place Philippaerts still, so Stewart was hardly cruising around.

But whatever.

Were you there in person to see the way Everts handled James at Matterley Basin in 2006 , giving him a riding lesson? or are you guys just keyboard warriors out of touch with the real world?
I was there and Everts was outstanding!

I agree with your final line. RC and Everts would've been a great battle. I have no idea who would've won it but it would have been close. The Everts that day was a lot stronger then the Everts we saw in 2003 in Zolder.

But your first line is just hilarious. James said that day that he was riding for the team and it looks like that right until now you believe him. What you seem to have missed is that a few years later James admitted that he had nothing on Stefan that day. He gave it all he had, he even rode his fastest laptime right at the end of the moto just trying to keep up with Stefan but Stefan just was the better rider that day.

The fact that you still believe that James backed down that day just shows that your knowledge of the motocross scene is not very impressive.

And yep.. i was there to. I saw James making mistake after mistake just trying to keep up with Stefan. Stefan meanwhile took his foot of the pegs only 3 times in a 30 minute moto.

Hey - don't bring logic in here. It is more fun to be an expert from BEHIND the keyboard than actually attending the event.... lol

How about the video from '99 at the USGP at budds creek where he had nothing for KW14? 2003, 2005?

Everts and Kdub tied on points in the US GP... the point of 06 was that Everts had his last race ever and beat james straight up to go out a championat 33 years old after an 18 year 10 world title career. the best MXDN I have been to so far. Even RC didnt go 1-1 at his last race. Genius.

Maybe Everts was better that day, but that wasn't the same Stewart that rides on US soil. Was it pressure or the track, who knows, but when you look at that compared to the Nationals over here it's a different rider.

sx ? What is that ? Everts was a pro mx rider. You know that ?... the real thing.

And I agree with Deetsmx. I never said Everts is a better rider then James. But don't give me that crap that James cruised for the team. It's a lame excuse and those of you who use it know that you are only fooling yourselves.

I have never seen James ride on US soil. But i ofcourse have seen video's of on US soil and in those video's he seems a lot faster then he seemed that day. Was it the track ? Was it the dirt he was not used to ? Or did he just have an off-day ? I have no idea but all i know that on that day Everts was better then him. And by a big margin.

Fact however is that Everts after that day said that he did not have an exceptional day. He was good, but he was not excellent. He felt ok. And he beat James Stewart, who did not have an ok day. There are not many guys in this planet that can say they have beaten James Stewart, even if he did have bad day Smile

Of course Everts was/is a great (MXer), but why are you guys (euros) still holding on to this? It was 2006. Middle ground will never be found on this topic. Instead, lets look at some real numbers:
Who has won the trophy 18 out of the last 27 years?

Oh yea, the United States.

Ultimately it IS the Motocross of Nations........not The Europe VS America cup.

I was there to see Everts rock the 2006 nations! He made everyone look pretty normal with his super smooth style! Damn Stewart, Cairoli, Villapoto, Pourcel etc had nothing for him!...

Was James riding for the team? mmmm, well he crashed, looked ragged, and his fastest lap of the WEEKEND was 2.1 seconds slower than Everts!!!... just sounds like an excuse to me!!!

Jumping the uphill triple was not faster. If i remember correctly only a few guys tried it and it was slower then doubling it and then singling into that left hander.

I really wonder why Stewart made so many mistakes if he was only cruising. Lap after lap he looked like he was going to crash.
Get over it. He lost. And a few years later he admitted it. Wonder why you guys can't admit that.

I love how the "euros" have nothing for SX (since their riders get owned at it year after year-with the exception of an occasional Frenchman)...and so they keep ignoring it.

Anyway...Stewart won the MXdN...Everts did not. The trophy went home with the Americans NOT with team Belgium....Everts lost....Stewart Won...Why all the debate?

Since it is a TEAM event...and James TEAM won and Everts TEAM lost....James was the top dog on the day.

It's a team event, the individual "winners" defeat the purpose of the event and as such should not be discussed nor given any merit.

Different mentality going in to the event...TEAM mentality...and as a result INDIVIDUAL results aren't valid and talking about them is STUPID.

James team won...Everts team lost...end of story. James was on the top step of the podium Everts wasn't...nothing more to discuss.

Don't get us Euros wrong, we have great respect for the top SX riders in the world. But this thread is about a motocross event Wink Just sayin'.....
