I got the PRP and stem cells in my shoulder last year.
Still some popping and a little weak in spots, but absolutely no pain.
PRP is the way to go.
Cortisone is bad and turns off the healing process.
I had 3 in my shoulder it helped for a little while. I would give it a try if I way you what do you have to loose?
I'm a frequent flier. Shoulder, Elbow, Back, Back, Back.. and repeat.
Does a great job for me. Shoulder and Elbow are good for 1 year like clockwork, My back depends on how much my old tired ass sits down during whooped out 2nd motos. Usually 2 or 3 a year.
Several in shoulder with bone on bone arthritis. Bought me around 3 years and lucky for me my surgeon perfected the "ream and run" during that time. My shoulder is now fixed with ZERO limitations. Couldn't be happier.

Hv someone poke around in your back to find the spot. The injection has to be on target or it doesn’t work. I had back injections 99-02 some injections where 1 foot from the injury. So they didn’t work. I had a few including injecting dye into my other shoulder. 1 was lay on my back Dr injects the shoulder. Then raise my arm & my shoulder made a loud pop then he injected the rest. I ended up having surgery on that 1 everything was tore up bad. Try to avoid surgery shoulders do a great job of healing on there own reguardless of the jury. I separated that shoulder yrs later . I hv a horn on top of the shoulder. Rail yard Chicago job we go threw a full day of physical test. 1 weird deal is we hv to put paper underwear on . Then a Dr looks every inch of your body ovr. He says you hv a separated shoulder I look at my good 1 & say what . He says the other 1 I said I never noticed it feels fine. On a day off if it feels like a freezer is on it making it pinch. I just do light barbells curls, etc the blood flow makes it feel better. I had tendinitis for 3 yrs back of my arm pit. 20-30 hr days 7 days a week basically ovr use. There is no second break your always using it especially in the ne. It’s a good idea to write everything down. The Dr,s r in a hurry. I had a Great female dr wed after X-rays she had a strategy for the shoulder& knee. She mentioned pt if your not too burned out on it . I mentioned I,m working 7 days a week on numerous injuries.Dr said 2 apts of pt get the info & exercise papers then do it on your own after that. I said excellent plan. I just finished an apt for a diff surgery . I can’t move my shoulder or lift a razor to shave. That’s bad but got me thinking about getting in really good shape to avoid injuries from riding. I hv enough from work.
this happened about a month ago.
Dallas weather was warm one evening , thought after a quick wipe down I’d go charge the ole Battery.
Less than a mile from home this young lady was nice enough to turn left into my lane of travel and a full on 50 mph 90 degree lick occurred.
Complete brake and full on clench all the way to the car , followed by a 25 foot Superman into the roadway.
It took two days for the pain to really hit, then I couldn’t hold my phone up without the pain hitting my arm.
I had a cortisone shot into the joint for short term relief and it does work to lessen the pain but does nothing for healing aside from Inflamation reduction.
There’s a lot going on in the human shoulder and it’s like a bunch of leftover stuff all held together with ligaments and prayers.
Physical therapy is for the birds. It’s pure hell and to have it on both shoulders is like getting beat up by nurses twice a week.
I had PRP done for a partially torn rotator cuff. It was probably two years ago. It was a little painful, but I let a intern do it and then we he kept messing it up the actual doctor took over. It seemed to help quite a bit, but it's starting to bother me again. I had total knee replacement in April, so I think I messed it up again I think rom crutches and using a walker. I have a follow up appointment mid March to get it looked at again.
An update from me since this was a long time ago.
I had an ultrasound first and it showed that the ligaments were so swollen that they wouldn't slip under the shoulder blade. I honestly couldn't even walk my hand up the wall in the shower. I was useless. I got a cortisone shot and the impingement improved remarkably and I was back on the bike soon after.
I hit a wall with recovery and I was still having trouble doing anything over my head (AC did a vid where he said that he can't do much at all above his head even when he's healthy) and I was really struggling with my bicep and could barely do an arm curl.
One more shot months later, this time with an MRI done prior to make sure it was safe, and I'm happy to say that I'm back to pretty much normal and even benched 225 a couple of weeks ago. When I got back to the gym about 3 yrs ago with my bum shoulder, I struggled with one plate / 135.
My other shoulder gives me more trouble! That was a minor injury from around 2004 but the same thing -- hard impact to the side of my body right on the shoulder.
Good luck to everyone as it's a complex injury and takes so long.
MRIs aren’t always a 100% accurate. I had the same thing in one shoulder, recurring impingement. Had dr do clean up and had. Tear in labrum and ligaments
Get my knees and shoulders done every 4 months. Could not walk without them.
Dam you got Lucky it wasn’t worse. I agree on the pt last summer I had 2+ months of pt . Total waste of time & money. My shoulder injection was wed at 2pm. The next morning I got up at 3.30am in a lot of pain . Shoulder to into my hand. I iced it all day & night. This morning same thing I can’t lift my arm to shave or hold my phone, etc. I called the dr office still waiting for a call back.
Some already mentioned PRP and stem cells. Also look into Prolozone.
Over the years I've had my hip, back and elbows done with minimal relief...however for me the cortizoid shots in my wrists and thumb joints still bring great relief and I have them done every 3-5 months as needed. I say its worth a try for many and if one doesnt work for you the next one somewhere else may.
I'm considering getting a shot for my achilles tendonitis in my foot, have plantar fasciitis in the other foot, my feet have been killing me tried pt for like almost 3 months now and just about every insole on the planet just can't shake it, I work a ton 12/16 hr days alot so I think its from the work boots anyone have any experience with this
As far as PT goes most insurance will mandate it before moving on to more in depth procedures.
Torn subscapularis for me. Couldn't put a bar of soap under my armpit. Painful and miserable. Had 3 shots of cortisone over a long period. Worked great and took the misery out of the injury. After the 3rd injection, doc said I had to have surgery. I think its a world wide thing, as im in Oz. Get your injections, relieve the pain and plan for an operation down the track..
I’ve had 2 in my right shoulder. Torn rotator cuff, bicep tendon and labrum. It does make the pain go away for a short time. My pain went away for about 6 months the first time then about 4 months the second time but I found myself overusing my shoulder because I could not feel the pain. I do not regret doing it as it helped me ride without pain, exercise and get better range of motion back in my long run. Exercising and stretching is key to building up your muscles to stabilize your shoulders. If you get the shot, don’t waste it, do your own rehab at home to help it get stronger.
I called the dr Fri a assistant said it could be a week b4 I can move my arm. They injected the shoulder joint wed. Just ice it & take ibuprofen. I,m still icing my shoulder I hv a little bit of movement of my arm. It gets a tiny bit better every day. My knee injection is fine as far as being able and to move my knee.
Pit Row
It’s been 2 weeks since I had the injections. Small improvements of motion every day. Day 12 b4 I could get a key into the ignition. A lot of pain from tendentious yet behind the shoulder under the joint. In a bad storm I had a apt to get a large tumor removed from the middle of my back ovr a back muscle. I had 2 cancellations they thought it was a floater- above the muscle. So I,m thinking piece of cake inject it to numb to area get it out. Get 40 stitches & get a cool scar. It went all wrong they had to do a lot of extra cutting . 2 diff times of extra numbing injections. Had to cut it off the back muscle. The tumor is still below the muscle but they can’t get it out. It took aprox 1.5 hrs of cutting & pulling. Prescription for 10 day anti biotic . The rds got much worse but I figured I better get the prescription now because we,ll be snowed in until Thursday night. I get back & Walmart calls my prescription fell out in the parking lot probably by the exit. Because you,d never find it in the snow drifts. A customer brought my prescription in.I,m greatfull for that. My Tylenol was in the bag yet . The bag was stapled it’s like how did that fall out. It was really windy . The rds r really bad plus idiots r driving like it’s summer. After the storm I,ll get it. Shots r wearing off I can feel the back muscle flaring up. Tendinitis pain from back of shoulder is in that area too.
Correction I had 2 apts 5-21 & resently because they wouldn’t except a 21 exam b4 surgery. It’s not a good start . It has me thinking a little of how bad the back& neck surgery will go. I had a lower back mri Fri 9am. A mri on my neck mon 9.30 am. I,ve had a nasty sinus infection with deep lung sneezes with a lot of clear thick snot out of head& lungs since Saturday.
I got the PRP on my spine last week. It was painful! When he hit the nerves I was ready to come off the table. They gave me laughing gas but that was terrible! Several times I thought I died, that was the creapiest thing I have ever experienced. It will be two weeks on Monday and I do not see any benefit yet. They said it could be a month before any improvement. Regardless, I would not go through that again for nerves.
Three weeks ago I got knocked on my ass playing hockey and landed with my arm behind my back. Felt something rip in my shoulder. Went to the doc, he thinks its torn, sent me to PT. Go there on Monday.
Bad thing is that because of the PRP you can't take any anti inflammatory medicine for 2 weeks prior and 4 weeks after the treatment. I need my Ibuprofen!
A month for improvement why so long ? I had a few injections on my back in 01,02. Injections where 15 in from the injury. What medicine did they use ? I,m waiting 4 a call back to get back & neck injections. I hv a weird feeling kinda of painful. Where the almost a orange size tumor was cut off my spine back muscle. Dr said only take extra strength Tylenol.
Anti inflammatory meds interrupt the body's response to an injury.
Especially in areas with little blood flow.
I have not heard of PRP being used for nerve issues.
They took 28 vials of blood from me, took them to the lab for processing and then injected the platelet rich plasma into 25 different areas of my spine. He was targeting the nerves that are being pinched and causing my sciatica.

I have some kind of shoulder impingement, whatever that is. Hurts all the time. Shots help it, last a few weeks, gym helps even more. The more I work and stretch it the better it feels. I need to go to the gym more often and quit watching tv and playing with dirt bikes all the time!
Damn, well at least you’re now ready for the Tour de France!
"The platelet-rich plasma will be injected into the areas of your lower back where the pain is coming from. Coupled with physical therapy and healthy habits, PRP injection therapy has proven to be an effective treatment for lower back pain."
Sounds like a weight loss pill that says with healthy eating habits and physical activity you'll loose weight....
It was free as one of my benefits at work so I figured I’d give it a shot.
I think impingement would best be served by good PT. If you have been resting then you need to restore your range of motion. Shoulders take time because it is a u joint not a hinge like a knee or elbow.
