Why do Opening Ceremonies suck this year?

Opening Ceremonies have been lackluster at the two supercross races I have attended this year (A1 and Houston). Does anyone know if this is temporary or are the days of badass fireworks, lasers and great intros over?

I will say in Houston - having the national anthem being sung while USAF soldiers rapelled down from the roof was awesome.

I noticed in atlanta last year they weren't that great but thought maybe it had to do with it being a day race. Guess not.

A1 and SD were pretty lackluster. Felt rushed and unorganized. Having said that, I've never orchestrated anything to that level... Smile

I know A1 opening ceremonies were abbreviated because of time constraints with TV stuff.

San Diego was an eye opener. They show the riders on the big screen acting like, well, goons. Kind of embarrassing to show world class athletes doing dumb dances and looking foolish in their gear. Just cant picture the OG racers willing to act like a side show circus act. They were bad asses, not clowns. When I went to see Mike Tyson fight he came out pissed ready to fight. No overalls and cowboy hat singing a dumb country song. I guess to sell seats they have to exploit the talent. Too bad its gone this way.

Seems to have been on a bit of a decline the last few years.  Other than A1 (for A1 reasons) opening ceramonies were a huge part of what made me actually attend the races.  With TV coverage being so good now days, unless they start doing the opening ceremonies the way they used to I'll prolly just watch on tv

Used to be awesome when they would just introduce the top guys leading up to THE GUYS.  They had good music and videos, and now it is just a shit show rush job so "everyone" gets included. I can see from a singular rider standpoint advantages as you are your own brand. From a sheer entertainment introduction standpoint... it's shit.  On par with the rest of our production/Bondo

Been lame for a while.  Kdub was the only thing good for a long time.  We haven't had good hotlaps since RC.  If the top 450 guys can't go out and throw a few whips in a hotlaps then turn some of these young guys loose from the 250 class.  Let them build a fan base.

I was wondering why I saw Jett doing an intro. Didn’t it used to just be the top 10 in the 450 class, with starting at #10 and working to #1?

I have been to the Houston SX every year it was at the old dome except 2014 and the years it wasn't in Houston obviously.

This year kind of sucked. The echo in the stadium and the announcers turn into a big old reverberating echo that is simply irritating. You cannot understand a single work from the club section. I put cotton in my ears and watched the racing.

The repelling soldiers were killer though and the racing was good. Everything else sucked and I'll be glad to watch from my home this weekend.

"I want to be wined, dined, and I'll just say it 69ed."

A2 was better but still not as good as it used to be a few years ago. Feels rushed.

Was at Houston and way too rushed, the guys don't even have time to stop and pump up the crowd before the next rider is being introduced. Instead of the top 10 be cool if they did 5 "local" guys and then the top 5.

Introducing any of the 250 guys is lame. Just do the top 5 450’s if there isn’t enough time to do 10. I liked when they put more effort into it in years past.

This is supercross put on by a company that has circus productions. It's not boxing. It is also 2023, time to let go of the "good ole days."

I didn’t know anyone that would be on vital would complain that there weren’t enough fireworks or lasers at the SX race.

I was just trying to figure out what the deal is with all the smoke?  Green lazer was kinda cool at SD.

Weird openings forsure.
