My Take:
The Bad:
Deegan got a bad start, and rode slightly sketchy a few times, rushing to get to the front.
He wasn't taken out. He caught his left handlebar in the other rider's subframe. That's his mistake. He didn't simply wash the front end.
The Good:
He was fast, made passes confidently, and stayed aggressive throughout the race.
I'm torn over whether he should line up for the 250SX East series. I don't think he should wait another year, but he's not up to championship pace yet. If I were him, I'd go pro next weekend, get the experience, and keep working toward the front.
Then shoot to win the championship for MX 2023. Tall order, I know, but that should be the only goal for every one who lines up.
Just watch his early YouTube videos. He was CRAZY COCKY. He is well on his way to being the next Alessi, where there is nothing but overhyped DRAMA everywhere they go.
Do you honestly think we'd be talking about him this much if he was just a kid from a popular YouTube channel? Not a chance. He's being talked about because he wins. A lot. And for whatever reason, that's polarizing.
With the way the rule is for pointing out now , I don’t see the point in not racing , it’s not like it was a few years back where you could burn a year by going up too early

To me, he has to race the east coast rounds. Even if he gets 10th-12th place (I say he does better). It has to be better than riding practice tracks for another 6 months. How much better can he get doing the same thing over and over every day.
As someone who isn't a fanboy, I wonder how much the pressure effects him. AC talked about coming in with people saying he could be the one of the best ever. Most kids that come in with that much hype, normally don't live up to it. The hype and the hate both need to be pulled back.
I’m talking strictly about the riding I saw, not the person he is. Never met him.
Bunch of people with their opinion already made up before the race, just talking trash.
The kid showed remarkable speed. Bad start, crash and still 5th. Take his name off the jersey and the haters would say it was a decent ride.
He will be fine. He will win a bunch of races in the future and Saturday night isn’t the end of the story. If “they” bug you now, better start preparing yourself for years to come with his name at the front.
Most riders struggle in their first SX under the lights. You can’t prepare for it. No matter how many laps you do at the test track. Hope he rides east. Amateur for 1/2 year will do nothing for his progress.
He will be fine and fast AF.
Remarkable speed , really?
There was 3/4 other amatures in the same race ,with just as much or the same Remarkable speed .
And pole sitter had a dnf ,
He just one of many top amatures coming thru the system that have talent.
Yes remarkable speed. 3/4 of the amateurs had the same speed? I want what you are smoking out of your bowl.
He and 29 qualified remarkably well compared to the others. He got a bad start and crashed in the race.
Speed and results are two different things.
He has the speed.
He will be fine.
Is this the kid that needed a cheater motor in the 50 cc class?
Quite a few had similar or better race speed.
Your right 3 Rd fastest lap time , so he nearly had the speed ..
Oh well plenty more races to come.
Going off how hard he was trying(too hard) last weekend and previous pro races yeah I'd say there's a lot of pressure on him.
Stop trying with this group, they are so blinded by their hate that they have lost common sense...
deegan ball handlers are the only thing worse than the haters.
During the Friday qualifiers he looked super quick and aggressive. I was surprised there were other kids (Futures) on the same level, let alone quicker.
Go watch Stewart's first supercross, he struggled under the big spotlight as well. I'm sure he will be alright, but losing a few times sure puts a big dent in the old ego. Could make him better, or it could make him ride over his head.
Either way I'm sure he is not done cutting the track.....
Once race and Yall seem to have deegan all figured out one way or the other. One race.
Almost as dumb as the "I'm not a fanboy I just watch all the Youtube videos, he works harder than anyone" crowd
Pit Row
Deegan did pretty good. All those kids are really good. The main thing is that they stay healthy and don’t have to fight injuries while they’re growing up. He had a successful race and did well, looked fast.
Yea that’s why I said one way or the other. If he would have won or got 5th you can’t take much away from one race.
I had no idea he finished 5th and only 15 seconds behind the winner. I only watched the futures main and in those first few laps he looked out of control. Now looking back and seeing he got 5th, I would say he should line up next week in Houston. If he just slows down a bit and takes a breath, he could get a top 10 and build from there. How long was he down before he got back on the track? I bet it was close to 15 seconds so he was obviously fast, you cant take that from him.
It is fun to see people so hot and cold on a rider though, haven't seen this since Alessi. Doing YT videos and selling merch really gets under some people's skin. lol.
It's not like it would do anything but he did gain positions off the track.
Should be a 2 position penalty, yeah?
2 postions plus as many places as he gained, so at least 3 positions.
Isn't it 1 position for gaining an advantage, plus 1 additional position for each rider passed?
how does deegan stack up with Jett at his age?
But they don’t use social media to build hype for racing.. they use it to make money. Which is what they’ve done. I can guarantee you Brian knows his following means nothing when it comes to race results. I agree with you that some fans are over the top about this kid but you can’t really blame the Deegans for finding a way to make the kid a bunch of money before his pro career starts.
LMAO, I almost had to give that a thumbs up.
Jett didn't milk out the futures with a factory bike. Time to put his big boy pants on.
Bubba qualified fastest, almost won, crashed, and still got second. He was also younger. There is no comparison.
The kid will be good but he's not the second coming that everyone is hyping him up to be.
