When you are racing for millions of dollars, why would you not want the best of the best in all scenarios? If you simply stall, you can very quickly have your clutch in and finger on the button and start trying to find neutral all at the same time, long before someone with a kick starter. Look at JS7 at Indy in 2013, whipping the dick out of everyone then a simple stall. It felt like eternity as he had to find neutral to start kicking it over. Ended up third.

If you are picking your bike up off the ground, you can have your clutch in and finger on the button trying to get the bike to fire up before you even have it stood up straight. You would have to fully mount the bike before you can begin to kick starting. Why would you NOT want that extra assistance and extra chance to get going quicker? Yes, "just don't fall or stall", well the pros aren't robots, mistakes can be made.

Now, a kickstarter bike for the rest of us non pros, not racing for millions? Suzukis and kickstarts are fine. However, it is nice to stop on the side of the track and talk to your buddies and then lazily just hit the button and go.

Might be an unpopular opinion today but kickstarters are core MX.

I remember watching the MX racers when I was a kid and god damn it was badass how they kicked their bikes to life and went for it.

My view - It is a big disadvantage not to have it in the field, where almost all the competition does, but I also believe e-start made the moto a bit easier, as you can compensate for mistakes easier, just as it was with switch from 2 to 4 strokes.

Call me a boomer but to me MX was about making the least amount of mistakes while riding as close to the limit as possible, because every small mistake (bog, stall, even getting the bike out of the powerband) used to cost 3,5,10 seconds. Now a serious mistake which back in RC/JS era would cost a rider 5+ seconds is "fixable" in one.

What happened to Brown with that magic button tonight?  He was stalled in turn and was there for a while before he got going again.

Seems like Pierce Brown’s gasgas electric starter didn’t start as fast as a kicker last night when he stalled….haha.
