Apologies if already been discussed before but just curious why honda does not have a title sponsor in either American sx/MX or the mxgp? Surely the riders they have in both series are marketable enough such as Chase and Jett as well as Tim Gajser. Also curious to know if they did have a title sponsor but the deal fell through?
Why does Team HRC in SX/MX and MXGP not have a title sponsor?

They have had title sponsors. Red Bull and Muscle Milk most recently (within the last 10-ish years). My guess is they simply don't want/need one.
Because they have enough money. End of thread..
But yeah, they have had title sponsors in the past. Universal studios being one in the last 20 years.
Well, it's Honda and they don't need any sponsorship $$$ commitments/clauses that they don't want to do.
250's or 450's? On the 250 side, wasn't Geico their "title" sponsor? When they pulled out of SX/MX altogether it looked like Honda's factory 250 team was gonna be gone....then came along the brothers Lawrence and Honda decided to field a team just for them under the HRC name.

Honda is Honda's title sponsor.
I agree but surely the additional sponsorship money helps them lure technicians or riders from other teams? I'm sure they don't want to be bogged down with too many commitments but surely the added exposure from monster energy or red bull outweighs this
I actually think the factory bikes look best simple with just component sponsor logos on them (Renthal, Dunlop, etc). I think one of the best looking bikes ever was the 92 Hondas, so clean, so simple.
Beautiful bike! Yeah, Honda can do what they want. Iโm guessing itโs a fraction of their budget for SX/MX.
Most of the manufacturers could afford to not have a title sponsor but itโs sure nice when someone helps foot a bill Iโm sure.
One of the best things to me about HRC is not having a title sponsor. Very clean look to their bikes
KTM group is worth 1.2 Billion. Honda is worth 40 billion. Honda could likely buy every othe competitor if they wanted. Their sponsors are Showa (which they own a large chunk of) DID, Fox, Dunlop, and numerous other small sponsors.
But as was said earlier, they simply do not need to
They have sexton Hunter and Jett. There not exactly hurting for riders. ๐
You could argue they could have more riders if they wanted more sponsors...
American Honda would absolutely partner with an outside sponsor.
All it takes is a big check LoL
The HRC Rally team is sponsored by Monster.
1 800 Collect.
My 93 was identical to this bike sans theโ2โ but replaced with 94.
not a fan of the whole title sponsor game. I rather when factories carry the brunt of the team and would be title sponsors could sprinkle more throughout the entire pits.
Actuallyโฆitโs like thisโฆ
Honda IS the title sponsor.
The riders probably make more money having Monster & Red Bull as personal sponsors than they would if one of those companies was a HRC title sponsor.
Pit Row
Wish Yamaha didn't have one either...
Probably the best looking factory bike ever
So happy I was a ~10 year old kid who got taken by my dad every year to Supercross, walked through the pits and got to drool on these bikes as a kid. True golden era IMO.
HRC MXGP had a main sponsor a couple of years ago (2018-ish) in HSF logistics. It was why Bogers got the factory ride in MXGP and Vlaanderen was on a Honda in MX2.
I imagine that the reason why you don't see a main sponsor often is that the costs are substantial and the visibility/branding opportunities on the gear is low.
HSF went from having their own MX2 team with 3 riders fully in HSF branding like this:
To being main partner of HRC and have this branding:
Because they are classy MF's with means
Couple of things...
100% agree Honda's always have and probably always will look awesome clean and simple, as did the YZ's like Reed's that was posted, great looking bikes.
People saying Honda don't need the money - you're right of course, as are folks saying Honda IS the title sponsor, but this implies Kawi or Yamaha DO need the money? They have to be relatively close to Honda financially with all the pies their fingers are in? How many Honda Civics or Yamaha Pianos is a Kawasaki cargo ship worth?
It's not a KTM-type situation, so is obviously an incredibly conscious decision taken by Honda. Curious how the numbers stack up, either outright or specifically for what we are concerned with, cheers ๐
Not speaking for other OEM's but I remember hearing years ago that Honda's Pro Honda Oil department (research, sales, marketing etc) was as big as Kawasaki's entire staff across all sectors. They have had title sponsors in the past for various reasons, but knowing how involved HRC and Japan are with the US efforts, they usually like full control of what goes on.
