Seriously, why even have this race? The skill, machines, the whole competition is not designed for mud racing. We’re off to such an awesome start to 2023, why risk letting the weather derail riders’ momentum or worse risk injury? They should cancel it.
Lol at all the California guys crying about rain. Maybe try to figure out a way to hold onto it so next month there isn't another water shortage?
I’m honestly blown away at people saying they should cancel the race, especially because it could affect someone’s championship. This is dirt bike racing. Weather is part of it. If you don’t want to watch a race, why are you here?!

I'm all for adverse conditions but who wants to watch everyone paddle through the corners and roll every jump?
It's a shit situation and likely going to be an absolute shit race to watch.
No one’s talent overcomes the scenario we’re about to be faced with if the weather continues as reported. Many random events can unfold with no regard to talent, including injury.
There is supposed to be a break in the weather Thursday but it is blowing and raining this morning, 100% chance of rain tomorrow, and heavy rain Friday, Saturday and into next week. Not a great situation for Dirtwurx, medical staff, riders, mechanics, and so on. This mud will completely wear out a bike, which isn't a huge deal for the top guys, but the privateers that pay for their bikes and mods, will really feel it in their wallet.
Hmmm, on the one hand, I recognize that a "biblical" mudder is a pita for the riders and fans in attendance but, but, but...it's a DIRT bike race. Mud is wet dirt.
I hope they find a way to pull it off.
Having a mud race is one thing, having the entire damn place pretty much underwater is another.
This is going to be an absolute shitfest for everyone involved.
This! The other big problem is trying to work all the muck into a supercross track. Tough call.
I hear if you add tons of lime to the dirt it helps absorb the moisture content.
A couple of tankers of muck-off should do it.
CTB that shit.
So true. You can make electricity and store water, both things the state desperately needs. But Dams are bad, everyone should know that by now...
In California the interests of a few always outweigh the interests of many, which is part of why the state is on the fast lane to 3rd world status.
I do still hope they get this race in. Any kind of racing is better than nothing
Here in the UK, club races happen every week during the winter with up to 250/300 riders in deep muddy conditions likely similar to what it will end up on Saturday night, all grass-roots/privateer level, and you're trying to cancel the race because you're worried less than 1 hour ride time will 'completely wear out a bike'...?
"We deal with garbage conditions all the time so you should, too"
Okay Mr. Beans on Bread
Can factory teams run "stock" bikes on a mud race?
I never said to cancel the race, just that it will be really hard for the true privateers, financially. You will see some chose not to ride because of the cost, and toll on the bike.
In 1991 I qualified for the Hangtown national, I was 19 and paying for my own bikes, I decided not to line up for the race (only one moto because of the conditions) Henry and Dowd ended up winning, with almost all the Factory bikes either blowing up, or drowning out with water.
Pit Row
My money would be on Aaron Plessinger.
Let's make it a GNCC race but indoors.
Should be interesting to see what they build and what it looks come Saturday for fantasy players.
I don't care if they put down some cones and race an oval flat track with a mound on each straightaway. They have to run the swamper.
Every time I see a bike expire in bad conditions I wonder why the hell you'd run a full tilt modified bike anyhow. I'd have a closer to stock setup with an extremely easy to ride power curve/tuning. I'd also have some fun with it and run roached plastics since the bike is going to look like hell 3 seconds after the gate drop anyway.
This is a sentence demonstrating that its writer doesn't know shit about weather west of the Rockies.
Believe the Oakland Stadium floor is at or below sea level.
Star and Kawasaki will be in Arizona training this week at a SX track in Case Grande.
It’s going to get ugly starting thursday!
It's been like the two stroke nationals in my neck of the woods east of Sacramento with all the chain saws going.
I've raced on a track with standing water during a torrential downpour, and I'm a softie from California. If I can do it, professionals can do it.
This race will be about preparation and mindset, not just skill and starts. It's an interesting, new angle and I'm glad for the occasional change. I will say that I hope Dirt Wurx changes the layout a little bit; it would be nice to have a safer track design since we know the traction won't be there.
Was it a Seattle race when Windham was winning with the snow coming down?
Oakland stadium is famous for sewage backups in heavy rain. Lime will be the least of their worries. Sh!t roost in your mouth anyone?
And those of you NOT in CA have no f-ing clue how bad it is there right now. I'll be very surprised if they can run this race at all. There's a LOT more water coming and 1/2 the area is swamped already. You can't build a track or maintain in these conditions. After 8 years in the PNW I have learned to not even try to prep or ride my tracks from December to March, and sometimes like last year, until June.
yes why would we want to see the best riders in the world have to deal with the worse conditions? Maybe to avoid injuries we should just award the championship now. That way the privateers don't have to ruin their bikes by riding them.
