Looking at going to a SX race this year as I haven't been able to go for a couple years now, and where we are living now I have a few race choices between 5-7 hours away.

2 of those being Atlanta and Daytona.

Narrowed down those 2 options as they are both outdoors races which everything I've been to in the past has been indoor.

Looking at the ticket options on Daytona, I'm a bit confused, where Atlanta looks to be more traditional style seating options. Most likely would go for mid-level tickets but would like to get into some more activities in advance of the race.

Any reason to choose one over the other? The only other option is Nashville and Houston (I've been to Houston Supercross many times so inclined to go elsewhere)

DAYTONA!  Outdoor SX. Best of both worlds of SX/MX.

Daytona for sure.  I’ll be there again this year if the weather is good.

Daytona hasn't released its track design, so that might influence your decision. Also, Daytona has more history, so it might be better if you're into that.

Something to keep in mind for Atlanta is that it's a day race (3pm).

Any idea the seating arrangements? At least how I read online, you just get a general area to be in, not an assigned seat. Is that right? and any issues seating the race/track?

General is first come first serve if I recall correctly. We ended up trackside for cheap and watched from up close.. bounced around a little too..

Daytona.  There is so much to do and see during bike week.  “Atlanta” is in the middle of nowhere.

Atlanta probably has a little better racing. But I wouldn't feel comfortable bringing my family to Atlanta. Just way too ghetto

Are you aware of how far Atlanta Motor Speedway is from downtown Atlanta? It's not even in the same county.

You still gotta fly into or drive near Atlanta though....

For me, if I have a choice between Atlanta and anywhere else....I'm picking anywhere else....

Plus the history and allure of Daytona is bad ass on multiple levels.  Go with Daytona OP.

Atlanta has a massive loop that will allow you to drive completely around it. Also the airport is way on the south side of Atlanta towards the speedway direction.

Oh you're right. My bad, I was only ever at the old Georgia Dome. Walking home after the race made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. I'm sure the new speedway far away from the urban area is a little bit cleaner and better experience

Daytona for sure, Atl. speedway is a few miles south of the city of atlanta but it is located in hampton ga. which is itself an undesirable town. Most of the metro atl. area is ghetto. This is the voice of a 60 year resident of georgia.

The problem with the Atlanta race is that you have to go to Atlanta

Very true.
AMS is 30 minutes or more south of Atlanta.  Ingress and egress are easy.
Daytona bike week however is like LA traffic.  Have fun with that.

Daytona seems like the way to go, but Atlanta has had better racing in recent years from what I remember

Been to both, Daytona has bike week going on and its a party atmosphere (college spring break vibe), so if you are looking to ride around the town and hit a few bars, its the place for you.  But if you are just trying to get in and out, not party it up, then you might as well go to Atlanta.  A 3rd option for you might be Houston, its indoors, but its probably one of the cheapest supercross events to attend when you factor in parking, hotel, food and drinks.

Daytona is also great because you can have assigned seating and have track side viewing also and not only do you have the sx pit party and racing but also the free Bike week show out front with tons of other Bike week vendors and motorcycle show tents with bike enthusiasts everywhere, kind of like a fair in front of the stadium all week.  There is the craziest motorcycles and people everywhere. I have been to Daytona sx 30 times since 1985. Plus you have flattrack and gncc usually close by and the beach. I had family in Daytona and the traffic is not that bad. It's part of the sight seeing fun but moves fine.

Atlanta. Track is tight racing and seems smaller in person but it's definately a great experience and that dirt looks amazing.  I was right over top of Dv slapping Roncada and unfortunately KW breaking femor. Edit: oops new venue.  You can't go wrong with either but Daytona has some extra amenities.

Daytona is the better race to attend, Atlanta is tough to see the whole track. They use the entire length of the tri-oval and the seats aren’t as elevated as Daytona. I’ll be at both.
