No kids yet so not a safety issue like a child tipping it over.
I'm looking to move and I keep finding houses with detached garages. I'm not keen on keeping my bike in there since they're basically a free stuff containment area for a willing criminal. I also do not want to deal with the muddy waters of property defense outside the home. I'm wondering if any of you have a similar situation and how you handle it. Yes, I have insurance but that wont bring back my custom settings and time spent, custom parts, etc.
Yeah I was going to drop down a piece of masonite and strap a stand to a dolly and get it basically touching the wall. it takes up less space than a hall table. I think we'll inevitably have a "whatever" room since my wife will need a room for her odds and ends. I dig it.
Gotta keep them warm

I do …
Usually strip down and clean a bike during the winter in the basement..already finished this one..
Hold on a minute… are all you guys single? 😂😂 I’m thinking the living room is probably a little bit of a contentious decision lol
Basement would be a sweet setup. If we find a split level with the ability to get one down there it would probably just get a “shop room” to be honest. So glad technology is so advanced too, as long as the air filter hasn’t been done within like a day and the exhaust is plugged, they don’t even stink let alone drip or leak.
That is exactly what my setup is. Its like 4 steps down to the basement from my garage so I roll the bike down the steps and use my ramp to roll it out. Its cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
I keep my bike chained up in the garage but the front wheel lives in the house until riding day. They're going to have to drag the bike out if they're going to steal it.
My 1st bike a 1975 MT125 was a Christmas present and we did not have a shed till spring so it went into our living room. Think I used a 2x10 to roll it in.
I have a 300 sq. ft. studio apartment and I can touch my bike when I’m sleeping 😂
I've never put a bike inside a house before. I did put some in a few motel 6 rooms when I went to the races with a pick up truck in 96-97... But if you have a garage that you can lock, I think it's crazy to put a bike in a house. It's not like they're goldbricks haha. I don't even allow shoes, even unworn, in my house...
Funny/scary story... I lived in an apartment until I was 16. We rented an offsite garage to work on bikes but left the bikes in an trailer (behind a truck) in the street in front of the apartment. In 92 or 93, I rode KX125s then, a couple guys broke the chain that was locking the trailer to the truck and stole the trailer around 2am. My dad heard it, got dressed, grabbed his gun, called my godfather (my mom's sister husband) who was even crazier than my dad if that's even possible, he grabbed his shotgun and they went after them. The thieves drove 2 miles, broke into the trailer, took the bikes out and rode them out. One of the bikes had the petcock off which they didn't realize and "ran out of gas". My dad & godfather drove separately to try to find them. My godfather ran into them while one was kicking the bike with the gas shut off. He scared them off by shooting his shotgun a couple times. They dropped the bikes, jumped in the runaway car and we got the bikes back. To this day, we still don't know who it was...
I REALLY wish it was universally legal to kill thieves. That’s insane.
Pit Row
Used to bring my bikes downstairs in the basement to work on in the winter. Now that I have a shop that I keep heated all winter I no longer need to do the dreaded push up the stairs (down is no problem!)
How do you guys manage to keep them clean enough to keep inside the house? Like what do you do after a mud race that’s two or three hours drive away? What are the logistics on making this work with frequent riding? I’m genuinely curious.
I don’t ever bring the bike inside if it’s muddy. I’ll wash it before i come home then dry the bike outside. It’s a huge pain in the ass especially because I’m always having to wash and dry two bikes but it works
I have one in my living room and spare bedroom. Damn friend keeps buying bikes for me to build before I’m even finished with the other ones
Was lucky enough to find a house with a basement door level with the driveway , so everything is stored there , if its muddy and I'm lazy I leave it my van
I put some #6 birdshot into a thief once, caught him lifting the garage door. He ran off but he never came back.
I got 2 in the house, one on display and one in the office.
The one in the office changes depending on what i am riding at the time.
Back in college my friends and I rented a townhouse and turned the family room into a motorcycle paradise. Three bikes, and huge banners and framed photos all over the walls given to us by the shop two of us worked at. Giant boxy tv had stacks of moto vhs tapes on top. Good times.
I have to go to a car wash after every ride because I don’t have access to a hose. A cordless leaf blower is a life saver for drying. Also have a big rubber mat that sits underneath so when I’m working on it my carpet doesn’t get destroyed.
I don't want to be Debbie Downer here, but I had a friend who stored his snow blower in his basement. His house burnt to the ground, not related to the snow blower in any way. His insurance company declined to pay him a dime because he had a "gasoline engine" inside the house. Buried in the fine print of his policy it stated that no internal combustion engines were allowed in the house. Had it been an attached garage there would have been no problem. Beware and contact your underwriter to assure that having the motorcycle in your house doesn't violate your policy.
