I”m wondering how necessary the vented airbox cover really is on these new bikes, pretty large openings under the seat already…

agreed, probably not a huge diff but I was bored, I had a rivet gun and an hour so I quietly occupied myself and was thinking happy thoughts lol.

Yes under the JBoneMotorworks channel, however I forgot the username and password to edit the channel and upload so I tried to get Google and YouTube to help me get it all back and they said they couldn’t so I just used my other one instead

Josh Jbone is the man. I've known him for 30+ yrs and he's one of the smartest, down to earth and most genuine guys that you'll ever meet. He built the motor on my 15 300SX and it was an absolute rocket and anyone who rode it was blown away by just how fast it was. I'm proud to call him a true friend.

Digger, you had me at "hello" lol...Im just super into the tech side of this new model and want to just show what Im doing and why and maybe it will inspire people to make some changes that will work for them. Not a lot of guys share info.
BTW- I got a copy of the service manual for the 300sx so if you ever need some info or whatnot, we can look it up.

Thx buddy- J

Send me an email jbonemotorworks@yahoo.com with a top to bottom list of what the bike has on it now for mods, fuel and ratio, elevation you ride at and I will check it over and can point you in the right direction for getting some more out of it.
Thx!
ps- I don’t do engine mods anymore but can recommend some guys I know.

TSP just posted dyno runs to their YouTube channel.

More midrange, but quite a lot less peak power, versus the previous generation carb 125’s.

Can anyone remember the power commander and add on O2 sensor units? I had to run one on a 2009 rmz450 since no one had software. Might be an option on this bike, only changed the fuel tho.

Seeing all sorts of aftermarket ecu these days, there was one that had all sorts of add on electronics.

I haven't used one of those on a dirt bike, my son has one on his CRF250 L streetbike and said it made a big diff. I have a call in to JD Jetting to see what he is doing about it.

Two Stroke Performance in AUS is doing some vid's now and should have a cracked ECU soon, they posted some stuff of youtube.

That’s very interesting because my 23 tc125 feels so fast.

I would just say it means your riding primarily in the midrange and not top end.

Once I can get my hands on one for a few days I will...These bikes all share the common stuff of susp, frame, plastic, etc,,so it will be more about the motor on the 250/300.

Does anyone know when a decent glide or skid plate will be made for this bike? Bare engines cases has always made me nervous.

There is the factory one and axp has a heavy duty one. The good news is I think you can use a plate for any 2023 ktm with the new frame.

I have one, not installed yet, it was from the hardparts catalog, like $70.

Looks like I was wrong and the 125 gets its own plate. Ktm sells it with or without the linkage guard. Enduro engineering has an aluminum one. Aomc shows them in stock.

Isn't it possible to just remove the seat, remove the silencer bolts, remove the lower 2 subframe bolts and rotate the subframe up like on the carb bikes?

I am sure it can be, this seemed to be actually a hair simpler and went I went to re-install the rubber boot, I was able to really send it straight at the back of the TB and it locked in great.  I kinda complained a little bit in the video but it wasn't that bad..I was more miffed after the install really bc the bike ran terrible, like absolute dog poo.

I spent a good hour narrowing it down and got it sorted but man I have never worked on a bike that was THAT sensitive to a simple change like a reed block...it wouldn't run.

Supposed to go to the dyno shop tues or wed so I will post some stuff about what we found out.

Wow. That’s pretty shocking that KTM wouldn’t have the logistics in place to make sure the latest and greatest software isn’t available when they wake the bike up upon purchase. I’m sure the dyno numbers are way down compared to what engineering signed off on due to the software issues.

This seems way worse than the ‘17 switch to the Mikuni when the jetting was so bad. Hopefully they fix this quickly. Seems like the 250/300’s aren’t perfect but will at least be rideable. Thanks for the report and keep us posted!

It appears to be a SX thing bc I asked the service manager last week about if any updates were available and he said, "we did not receive any communication about updates", which apparently is how they normally find out there are updates with the rest of the line, with TSB's.

We both learned today that (with the SX so far), that unless its plugged back in after the 24 hour wake up, you would not know there is an update.

Wow, typical ktm, 5 years ahead of everyone else and 1 year ahead of themselves.

Good luck jbone, and don't bother with the vforce lol. Or pipes if older bikes are anything to go by.

Sounds like the dealers all need to refresh downloads on the computer overnight to be up to current specs.
