Not a Champion but Nick Romano is from Brooklyn - There is a track in Long Island, I read that his dad took him riding once per week. There is a privateer from NYC, Rashidi Kerrison. Similar deal from what I heard, getting seat time I'm sure is a struggle.

I dont think Adam Cianciarillo was from the country.

Chase Sexton is from outside Chicago but I don't know how rural that area is.

Blake Bagget was from California and a national champion, but his career was handicapped by not having a famous father.
I thought Bagget’s career was handicapped by Barcia.

Baggett is from Grand Terrace. Like ten minutes from downtown San bernardino

Kyle Peters (current and 3x Arenacross champion) is from Greensboro, NC which is a good-sized surburb in NC. Like others said, Cooper and Romano are from big cities in New York. K Dub was from Baton Rouge, LA but moved to the middle of nowhere in Mississippi!

Oak park not close to the south side it’s on the south side. Look at the 1980 low viaduct map and the townships around it. Calumet park, blue island, Dolton, Harvey etc extremely violent ares. I worked pipeline & utility work all ovr Chicago and 43 states. City work in a tanker , 10 yrs of s side railyards . You might b thinking of oak park off the Eisenhower that’s still in the city but north side and very nice beautiful area. M_m mars is there .

Dungey doesn’t count, Belle Plaine (where he grew up) is a huge stretch to call a suburb and there’s several tracks in the immediate surrounding area. Sexton either, that part of Illinois might as well be Bumfuck, Iowa.

Because riding wheelies thru urban areas in traffic is not conducive to a long life and they haven't put any SX whoops on the interstates yet. Except between San Antonio and Dallas on I-35.Laughing

1 of the best Midwest tracks ? Sunset ridge or mt carrol. Byron to the north was great in 98. Mendota mega cross correct ? Riders made great money there yrs ago along with Byron and lake Geneva Wi.

How long a time frame does your question cover, because I doubt the "el cajon zone" was a rural area with spacious private estates?

Haha yeah A bit of a drive to Iowa but an easy 1. Top 3 or 5 areas in the country for riding and racing. Chases area that is. I see the most off rd bikes in IL. Or Wi. Of all the states. I rarely see a bike in so Cal.

Yeah pretty much ne to fl. There is no English. That is a super rare map I,m maybe 1 of 3 in the country with 1. I still use the map for the inner city. Even a trucker gps doesn’t work for the inner city. Unless you like to drive 12 blocks up to a 12.4 then 8 blocks to a 13.0 then 7 blocks to a 10.9. They stopped handing them out a few yrs ago to rr drivers because they don’t know how to read a map.

Yeah I was wrong about Sexton, it thought he was closer to Chicago. AC's hometown is listed as Port Orange FL by Daytona. Baggett was the last California champ before Craig.

Originally from Kansas and San Antonio was not much of an urban area back in the early 70's.

Plus there were tracks all over the area at that time.

Certainly not like today where the only track in the SA area is Cycle Ranch which may or may not be open at any time depending on how morning yoga goesLaughing for the lifestyle guru that has owned it into the ground for the past 10 years.

Sunset Ridge baby!!! Between there, Saturday Night Megacross at Mendota, and the indoor track, that's a good set up.

He actually grew up dead in the middle of Annapolis, but the family all lived on the same road and they had the concrete business, which had about 1.5 acres of total property. But all that was there was BMX jumps and a little pit bike type track. There were a few small practice tracks around us though, and he had one of his own in Crownsville that was super sketchy (can be seen on Mini Warriors 2 and Terrafirma 3). Then it was onto what is now known as Pastrana Land, and the rest is history.

SA population was about 850k at that time, though I’m not sure what the criteria is.

Having grown up in SA, you are absolutely right about track availability. I had one of the best practice tracks 2 minutes from our house. Saturday was always a blast!

Kids in cities play sports that make real money Woohoo parents who want their kids to ride are more likely to live in rural areas where you can ride…

Romano is from Queens, Cooper from Long Island, JLaw from NJ. It’s possible, just not common. Besides a few months off in the winter, no reason you can’t moto down a ton if you live in south jersey. So many sand tracks, englishtown and field of dreams are great too.

Cole Seely isn't quite a champ, but he is maybe from Newbury Park, CA (sometimes results say Sherman Oaks or Costa Mesa). There haven't been any legal tracks within 45 minutes of that area in decades.
