Best MXDN rider of All Time?

Edited Date/Time 9/25/2022 4:28pm
After seeing the thread titled "Which MXDN rider has the best result?" thread. It got me to wondering who was the greatest MXDN rider of all time. I didn't get into the sport until 1996 or so, so my picks are only guys I watched race, plus I'm American and only really knew our riders. With that said, my top 5 would be Fro, Villopoto, Everts, RC, and Bubba. Feel free to thrash me in the comments and downvotes. Who's your top 5?

Carmichael. I don’t think he ever lost one. Not sure.

RC lost in 98,99 and the team lost in 03 while he won. You could say he actually cost us any chance at winning in 99. Obviously he was great in the winning years.

Wardy is 7-0. I don’t think RJ ever lost at least in his class from 86-88 and RV won his class every time and won 3 motos on a 250F. Those three would be my choices.

As a kid growing in the 80s, I'll vote Johnson... Dominant at MXDN, Cool, Stylish, Aggressive... Who didn't want to be him... Wardy won 7 MXDNs but was never as dominant at MXDN as RJ or others...

Strictly with numbers and moto scores as an individual rider, the debate has to be between Herlings, RV & Dungey (and arguably Paulin)

Dungey is 3-3 in event scores, not sure about motos but he stunk it up in Germany and Lommel.

I thought he was 7-0 too, but he made a post on IG today saying he was 9-0. Either way, Wardy is the MXdN GOAT.

To me the greatest had been Everts.
Numbers don't lie.

In the relevant ones you are forgetting Cairoli who won the trophy lasts year, but had several very good performances including winning a race with a 'small bike' in 2006 (It was done by also by Villo and Steve Lamson and no one else, as far as Iknoiw).
Tony won the mx1 in 2012 2013 and had somel 'podiums' in his class. But also quite a lot of downs.

The first 2 years Wardy did it the format was different and there were 2 events- MX des Nations(500cc) and the Trophy des nations(250cc). The teams Wardy was on won both events both years.

Stanton was a bad man as well and never gets any recognition.

Dave Thorpe. He got waxed by Johnny O on a 125 and didn't even have a nervous breakdown.
