Change my Mind!
Of course the factories would never go for it and of course if Brennan were to make youtube videos on the bike like he said he would, it would have come out that it was he who claimed the bike and maybe Yamaha would have had to follow through with their alleged threat...Or would they? And Brennan would have still gotten that Star bike at the end of the day. Just a thought.
The idea of being blackballed in the moto industry for doing something that is allowed in the rulebook is ridiculous.
Once people have made up their mind on something, no amount of evidence usually changes it.

I think for things to change, the culture of mini parents has to change. And that wont happen.
The culture of the race teams has to change, and that wont happen either. They're fiercely competitive, that's at the root of all this.
I dont expect the moto parents to start claiming more often to de-stigmatize things. They're all hypocrites in this arena.
The people that care the most with the biggest moral high ground are the fans here. We could start a go-fund-me so claims happen every year. And we sponsor some kid to get a free PC or Star bike. And I bet you most would turn the offer down because they dont want the trouble.
The party in the middle of this that I think needs to just do their damn jobs is the AMA. Everyone else involved did what we'd expect them to do, and was even overzealous in their approach. There's one party that did the bare minimum and they're largely responsible for letting this get out of hand, and that is the sanctioning body. I also think if the claiming rule is amended, never again is a parent allowed to let their 17 year old "kid" handle the situation. Dad must be brought in. And impound cannot be some makeshift on the fly decision to store the bike in a promoter's personal toy hauler - what a total shit show.
Only so many riders in a class - I'm sure there would be accusations and finger pointing especially accusing their rivals. Could lead to more drama who knows.
MX Sports/The AMA needs to attend to the issue and put their foot down rather than sweep it under the rug or try to down play it. Until then nothing will change and we will see the same drama again. There's a lot they could do as far as setting an example to make sure something like this doesn't ever happen again. They wont though.
He states that Walker was texting his sponsor. Then he lists how he thinks it went down between Yamaha and his sponsor.
He never states that he spoke directly to his dealership. He never even explains how he knew the contents of Walker's text exchange. Did Walker show him the text messages? If so, why not say so.
I mean, he point blank claims a Yamaha employee admits to him (and a group of people) that the bike is a works motor. That's a heck of a thing to leak. But cannot say how he knows Yamaha was pressuring his sponsor. In fact, he never clarifies if his sponsor actually pressured Brennan directly on behest of Yamaha. It was all "I think" and so I didnt want my sponsor in trouble. Coulda been Walker passing the message, coulda been the dealership, coulda been Donnie Yamaha. Heck, it coulda been someone going rogue. It's not clear at all.
Everyone is upset that the kid dropped the claim. And yet we still dont really know how that came about.
So yeah, ‘Mob mentality’ fits… but for sure there’s more than one mob.
Gotta share this in all the threads on this topic.... lol
Pit Row
Definitely not any ghost rides in the near future for the Deegan clan...
Anybody mind posting a basic summary?? With this many pages I'm sure there are several pieces of info peppered throughout this thread and I'd like to understand the basics without having to read 25+ pages.
Thanks in advance.
Sad look for many “professional” adults in this situation
Don’t hate the player, hate the game! Give the kid his bike and STFU.
Heads started to roll, adults acting like children. "Think little league coaches/dads"
Claim was retracted under "_______" circumstances.
A bunch of interviews and no accountability from either side.
You don't go to Loretta's and not know HOW the game is played within the industry, and he probably didn't want to be dragged through the mud and do interviews post-incident to clear his name.
I would be a top 10, or top 40 amateurs trying to make my way, I would just be so pissed off about this whole fiasco.
Some kids are just robbed their career because there are some twats coming in with 50k bikes, which is not how the amateur racing is. The rules are for everybody otherwise what is the point to even race ? Let us remove these factory bikes and we might see other talented kids coming up, kids that have the talent to make it instead of cheating their whole amateur career then do nothing and get the boot after a couple seasons.
