I'm trying to decide which one of your comments is more baffling but am seriously having a really hard time deciding...

1) yes, why wouldn't I? Should i refrain from exercising my 1st amendment rights on a discussion board based on the ownership stakes of the forum or are you just concerned someone from the mx media might read and get their feelings hurt?

2) Ok so i guess you're under the impression journalism schools teach students to attempt to get the scoop directly from the subject of the story and if that doesn't work, just give up because there's absolutely no other methods for developing or sourcing reliable information?

I swear, only in MX would this fly... Serious question; Can you imagine the media response that would occur if a former champion and relatively big name athlete of any one of the major sport(e.g. NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS, NHL etc) essentially just disappeared overnight from the league without explanation? Every journalist covering said sport in any capacity would be knocking down doors and calling every name in their rolladex trying to develop sources and get the scoop in hopes of being the one to break the story. It would take 24-48hrs Mac for every last gritty detail to be out in the public domain as front page news while running on sportscenter in a non-stop loop.

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand MX isn't anywhere close to being the NFL so am fully aware it's not a fair comparison given the discrepancy in audience and journalistic resources. That said, is it really that unreasonable for me to expect, I don't know, maybe acknowledging his absense from the sport on air during a MX/SX broadcast and/or someone in the mx media publishing a substantive article within a year or two outlining the reasons behind his sudden disappearance, ideally from both parties perspectives?

I don't know, maybe I'm crazy or have unreasonable expectations for those covering the sport as their chosen profession....
It’s pretty clear several media types have reached out to Blake and those in his camp and they aren’t interested in talking about / possibly can’t due to NDA’s. He’s gone, he’s not coming back.

Say all the buildings and equipment are worth $1,000,000. (Probably not, but for arguments sake)

That puts the land at around $54,000/acre.
That sounds rather ambitious to me considering that the majority of land buyers aren't interested in tracks, and track maintaining equipment.

Yeah that seems outrageous, what did Reed get for his property when he sold it?

Sounds like he's making the classic mistake of thinking because he's invested X amount invested in the property it's worth that much. Sort of like when someone takes a drops $15k of custom mods in a $20k pickup and is surprised to learn when they go to sell it that it's worth $18k instead if $35k.

The property has been for sale for many months. I drive past it almost every day. It’s across the street from property that The Villages owns that was recently annexed, which can have an interesting effect on value.

Lots of Florida real estate experts on here from nowhere near Florida….pretty sure there were comps done by the broker to to come up with the selling price and not just Blake pulling it out of the blue sky….

Does featureless pasture land really fetch $54,000/acre in central Florida? Good for him if he can find a buyer.

Yeah. Many variables determine value of raw land. And it can change quickly depending on change of zoning or short/long term use of it or adjacent land.

I’m not a real estate expert in that area so I couldn’t tell you…but then again neither are you…in a post above it was stated that the adjacent property was purchased by The Villages which would affect the value of the property…again I’m sure comps were done as part of the valuation of the property by the broker to come to the sales price they have it listed for…

I guess it's almost $66,000 per acre now? But yeah, it looks like a big piece of shit at that price. Spray foam filling gaps in the shop, track erosion, a burn pile that's too hard to light off for some reason, dozer parked right on the concrete foundation with no plywood, unfinished insulation, sagging siding panels on the ceiling, unfinished wall panels because someone's brain locked up once they hit the plumbing, etc. Has a deserted look to it, like everything was up and running and then someone said "fuck it" and threw the main breaker and left. That looks more like a six figure piece of property if you exclude the excavator, dozer and dump truck.

Randomly in the area for the first time over the weekend and realized I was damn near next door. If the gate is any indication, the whole setup is rotting in place.

A lesser member would have started a new thread for this.

His concrete work is spot on. He did an acid stained polished concrete counter top for me in our backyard.

To those concerned with the price of the acreage.. it's not the value of the surface, it's what's underneath.

Ball diamond red clay is hard to come by, it's a very specific type of soil. Guess what's under all that sand? Red gold.

How could that possibly pay even a fraction of what he could be making racing… Guess it’s safer, less travel.

So that's it? He's done? Why? He had a really good season in 2020. Why wouldn't he just try to get on another team? Hope he understands that working a regular job for a living sucks ass and he should take advantage of his racing

When your dad owns the company I’m sure it pays pretty well.

Probably enjoys the time with his family. A lot more to life than racing.

I know it isn't even in the realm of possibility, but would be pretty cool if the new RMATV team hired him and brought him back to form just to throw some extra shade at the BBMX team...

His dad's company is a multi-million dollar per year operation. He's going to be just fine with a lot less risk week to week.

Yup

They handle serious infrastructure and commercial development projects. Blake his happy being out on the job and getting shit done.

As for real estate? I’d been told that his property is now adjacent to a rather large collection of parcels that was recently grabbed up by one of Florida’s largest home/golf-course community developers. So, it’s value is likely well beyond what we think it is…
