Testy testy. I hit a nerve talking about your PNW dime. Go 30 miles in any direction and she drops to a 2, but look on the brightside you can always stay warm if you slice her open like HanSolo did to the Ton Ton to save Luke's life in the Empire Strikes Back. Although I bet the Tonton smells better than your wife.

So you would think. Guess who never has to work again out of the 2 of us. Here's a hint it's not you.

haha - i haven't race in so long (just ride practice days) but I would have no idea what class to even sign up for. Much less which one for my kid. JEEZ. Back in the day it was 50/60/80/125/250 and you might have a couple of "Sportsman/Expert" variations.

WTF are all the classes about?

For me, these crazy early races are no fun. I don’t want to be doing Moto 1 at 845am. I’m def not in peak mindset before 9am to compete in anything. Plus, who wants to spectate at races that start that early? If you can’t sort out your program to where it can start and end in under 7 hours, you have too many classes to run or you’re terrible at stagger starting classes.

Start races at 10 and end by 5. Have your kids classes go earlier in the session and your better riders should have to ride in a rough track with weird sunlight angles, etc.

No track needs 10 hours of racing in a day to close things out. That’s greed and mismanagement combining

Ok smartypants-go dig out a race program before 1980 that races the minimum amount of classes from 50's to +50's that can start racing at 10 am and be finished by 5 pm, that has enough of an intermission to allow for track work and to feed the workers. This would be easy peasy with 6 classes. Once you wake up from dreamland show me your local racing program, and then maybe you are right, I am incompetent. We used to start racing at noon and were finished by 5, in 1975....

From the race day schedules I have seen posted in this thread, no one is starting their program at 10 am and finishing by 5 pm.

That’s the point of what I am saying. You used to go to Local races and it wouldn’t be like it is now. And I am not talking 1980. My family owned a super popular track in Florida for nearly 25 years and even into the 2000s you could find plenty of tracks where you weren’t racing at 830am.

I’m not saying you’re wrong to do it how you’re doing it now. I’m just saying that as recently as 15 years ago I would routinely see tracks in the southeast race from 10- dark and the gates would be more full, the environments more fun and less rigid, and they were just more enjoyable than practicing at 7am and potentially still be racing at 5pm. That’s insanity.

The only time we used to see race schedules that long we’re at huge races like the Mini Os, LLs, regionals, Ponca, Tx nats, etc.

Anyone who raced those then hated that schedule too and the only reason they were there was the prestige. Local races don’t have prestige so who wants to spend time that should be fun grinding like this? Local races are recreational events that should be fun, they aren’t and shouldn’t be ran and structured the same cut throat ways that the Ammy nats are.

That’s the problem I am addressing.
Listen, I hear you. I just took umbrage with you using the word incompetence in our approach to the race day schedule-clearly you have first hand knowledge of the insane amount of time to put on a race, from A to Z. I would rather not start so early, and I would rather not have so many classes, but this is where the sport has evolved, and I know there is a concerted effort in some areas to pull back from the insane number of classes that make the day too long and the motos too short. It is a delicate balance. It has become in some instances just about $ and more classes the more $ entering the facility, but there has to be a balance here. I would much rather see gates being full in fewer classes and more races at the front, in the middle, and at the back, than 2 groups of 4 riders circulating the track..I'm not pretending for a second that we found the magic bullet here, but we did cut down on the overlapping of classes to cut down on the sheer number of races in a day. And we get requests all the time about why we aren't offering this class or that class..and I can say, but you can ride this class and that other class!

moto is alive where there is money in the regional economy

elsewhere it isnt.

A few years ago I took one of my friends up north for some Michigan single track. He was an MX only guy and went into thinking it would be a walk in the park. He ended up absolutely hating it, saying it was way harder than he ever anticipated.
Both MX and off road are gnarly and deserve respect.
And it’s totally fine to be a trail rider and be a moto fan.

Single track is actually pretty easy. My buddy rode a Yamaha Raptor 350 or something....I don't pay much attention to quads, but he was able to ride everything. I later sold him one of my 125s and he couldn't ride shit at the same place he conquered on his couch (quad)
I'm just not a fan of trails because my Dad made me ride them for days before he let me ride the track.
Tell me you don't have a clue what single track is (or what you're even talking about), without telling me you don't have a clue what single track is...

Thread is completely off the rails, but I remember 20 years ago or so I would say that I would try some Hare Scramble when I got a little older. First thing I realized is HS racers are some gnarly mofos and they haul ass. My local track back in the day I'd go months without crashing during a race and my first 10 HS races I was happy if I didn't crash at least once a lap.

No, I haven’t. Doesn’t matter where it is though. If a quad can fit through it, it’s not single track.
Now that I think about it, I suppose a dude could have some sort of in-line quad, in which all four wheels followed the same track.

Saturday MX aka REM at Glen Helen seemed to have a massive turnout this weekend.
I think some of them were there to prep for Swap Moto. I went to watch some friends race. The pits were packed! Did you race or ride the main track?

It’s the race promoters wanting to make more money. I heard it straight from the horses mouth. More classes = more cash.

I don't care about a trophy or not but I really don't want to race against former pros that are over 50, I would prefer to race against a bunch of never was 50+ guys so I can at least have someone to race with.

Your right rock crawling is one of the stupidest things ever. I'm gonna drop 20k into my clapped out Jeep or old school Yota. Just so I can make it halfway down the Rubicon trail, only for it to break and spend half the day fixing it in the sun.

Sorry, not following your question there. I'm not suggesting less classes. 60 year old dude who never made it to B class doesn't belong in the same class with a 60 year old ex pro or guy who has been racing A class since the early 80's. I don't care if a class has only 5 racers, just do multiple gate drops. I've done that plenty of times. Race with guys you belong with.

You dog off road racing out of pure ignorance. There is no shame in being ignorant of a subject, there is however shame in being stupid about it.
I've actually done quite a few off road races when I was younger. I stopped because it was boring to me.

That would be awesome with lots of 50+ guys. I feel spoiled being from so cal where theres 50 guys my age and 20 of them are faster than I am, but I don’t complain. I feel WAY too old to worry about complaining about cherry pickers in the 50+ class.

Instead of whining let’s hear some suggestions, so……Back to my original question. Where do you suggest fast guys or a certain age race? Should they stop so you feel more comfortable? Wait till the fast 60+ guys start hounding you😂😂

That actually makes sense NorCalDudeRyder, I don't imagine it's real exciting to be in the Beginner class and get lapped 3 times by dudes with wrap around hand guards.

Your question has no logic behind it, you're arguing with the wrong guy. I turn 55 this month, the fast 60 year olds don't hound me, they pass me. I have no idea who you think is whining when you whine about not having a class. I never suggested that fast 60+ year olds shouldn't have a class.

If there are enough racers to have a class for that skill level they should have a class. The largest class in our hare scramble series is usually the 50+ class. The biggest line of the 50+ guys is always the 50+ C class.

One of our races this year the 60+ A class had 20 guys and 60+ B had 23

If you want fewer classes and longer motos, the entry fee will have to go up. Track owners are not getting rich and do what they have to do to keep the gates open. If they can do that by running 12 classes instead of 42, why would they care?

I'm talking about local races, not any of the big Regional or LL type races as they are a different business model.

Full disclosure, I'm scared of trees. Give me fence posts, stakes, bikes and tractor tires over hitting a tree any day. A tree ranks right at the top of the list with a Bulldozer on the things I don't want to hit on a motorcycle list.
