Well the glasses bugged me to, but that's already been addressed lol. Apart from that, it was pretty fucking good. That was an interesting interview to, thanks.

I saw it the other day.

Pretty good.

Though, like the first version, it's probably the only time I'll see it, other than stumbling on re-runs on TV. The flying footage is great. Keeping CG to it's minimum, is a Great thing, in my books.

I really did like that Val Kilmer was included, apparently at the insistence of TC. A fine thing to do for an ailing friend, and a good story line link.

And, Jennifer Connelly, at age 51, is lovely.

I've got to say, the highlight of the show, was, for Me, the Trailer that went up for the coming Minions movie. When they went into Beastie Boys 'Sabotage', as the Minions taxied the jet across other runways, with it continuing on through further antics, well, it cracked me up completely Woohoo . Just bloody hilarious.

I’m in the theater watching it now. About 15 minutes left. Good movie so far.

And no, I’m not posting during the movie. The projector went down and I’m waiting for the movie to restart. Talk about suspense.

The movie is a pretty damn good sequel and they've left the door open for...more.

The writers certainly took some liberties; but, it is a helluva story.

I went with a buddy to see it the first time and just went a second time last night to see it with my dad. My dad was an aircraft mechanic and pilot when I was a kid so he always had the original top gun playing when I was a kid, back when home stereo and surround sound was first coming around and he was into that too so the house would just be vibrating like there was an F14 in the living room lol. Dad is getting up there in age now so it really meant a lot to me to be able to go see it with him in theatre.

20/20 vision for Naval Flight Officers (NFO), aka the RIO/Bob, has never been a requirement. So glasses have been a part of naval aviation for many decades.

Saw it tonight. Thought it was awesome! The throwbacks and nostalgia was done really well.

In the end it jumped the shark a bit. Maybe a little bit of cheese for good measure.

But dammit that’s okay sometimes! Sometimes you just need a good action movie!!! I think this really delivered!

In a sea of underwhelming movies at the theatre and the endless crap they churn out on Netflix and the like, this definitely lived up to a blockbuster movie status!

Certainly the movie of the summer. And maybe movie of the year!

I’d give it a solid A. Not because it’s artistic, or the Oscar level acting, etc. It’s just a bad ass movie!

Decent entertainment. I liked the Porsche evolution from the first film. No need to quibble over little dramatic license stuff, it's a summer blockbuster not a documentary.

Definitely borrowed some of the plot from 1964's 633 Squadron and later on Star Wars.

Classic 633 Squadron image as they run the treacherous gauntlet on the bombing run they had specially trained for and then have to deal with fighters waiting for them if they survive the bombing run. Sound familiar?

Ok fuggers...took the wife (who hates Tom Cruise) to the early matinee. Less than 10 of us in the theatre. I reserved dead center seating. Let me preface my comments by saying that I spent my life working on aircraft...mostly military so you know I'm biased...don't deny it.

It's fucking bad ass. Way better than I expected. I don't know or really care about the scientology crap but Tom has either overcome or transcended that cocksure attitude of his past. He plays the role with maturity and depth. Of course the plot is Hollywood but I ain't kidding...it's a must see for aircraft or military loving folks.

My wife even thought it was good...high praise indeed. I already said I'm retired military and devoted my blood, sweat, and tears to turnin' and burnin'. It don't take much to make me swell up seeing GI's gettin' it...well, I swoll up big.Wink

I for one was disappointed. Top Gun was definitely my favourite movie of all time. I had a love affaire with the F14...and that time period.

Since I love DCS and have learnt a minimum amount about modern combat...I just couldn't get past some of the glaringly unrealistic stuff (e.g. 50 patriot missiles flying over Tom's head). It was great entertainment but they clearly sped up some of the original footage (some of the canyon shots)...not necessary...

I also thought the first one, whilst having Pete Michel as the main dude, was still about the Navy. This one...was too much dominated by Maverick and his mid life (old age..) crisis issues.

Basically the footage was amazing, but i thought they missed the mark on the plot, military tactics, and could have focused more on the up and coming generation of pilots (Navy team effort) instead of focusing on Maverick....but I guess since this was Tom Cruise's movie...this was bound to happen.

It says maverick on the title. What did you think it was going to be about? I thought it was badass, definitely going to see it again.

I thought the beginning shots of deck launch/recovery and the number of ground crew required to make it happen...as well as the coordination/synchronicity set an obvious tone.

I was AF but even I knew those guys on the carrier deck were next level. In real life, just as in the movie, a nod was given to the folks that make it happen but that crazy bastard behind the stick gets AND deserves the glory.

Like Eli or Herlings that are unreal on a dirt bike...there are pilots that can blow your mind. Yes, I'm totally biased but I've seen some shit...known some of those aerial magicians. My pride came from knowing that I gave them the most capable and reliable plane possible. When the pilots say, "Fish is my crew chief or I ain't flying"...well, you know you're doing something right. I'm satisfied.

I captured my last two cat shots & recoveries (1993) on video. Should upload to YouTube one of these days.

And yes, life on the flight deck is hectic, and I spent as little time as possible milling about smartly. The surface is jagged, with a thin layer of oil, grease, and hydraulic fluid, creating hell’s own skating rink. Add a pitching deck and we made quick work of the preflight, strapping into the jet as soon as possible. Then the fun starts…

Went last night. I loved the opening music and just the way the movie started. Really set the mood for a great movie.
And Jenifer Connelly, what a gorgeous lady! Lot of other stuff that I don't want to write for anyone that hasn't seen it yet.

I get it-- kinda like turning on AMA Pro Motocross and being disappointed that it wasn't more about downhill skiing ? Cool

Saw it again today. Went with a group of 17 of us. Everyone loved it! I thought it was even better the second time. Saw it on an imax sized theater screen.

I saw it on a similar screen-the “xtreme” experience. Loved every minute of it!!

Miles Teller is a great actor and even resembled Goose’s son in the film. Iceman’s few scenes were some of the best parts IMO.

It's the first time in his career that one of his movies crosses the $1 billion dollar mark.

The movie was also the first one to cross the $1 billion dollar mark this year.

I still haven't seen it.

Good movie as far as what they put out these days goes. It wasn't great and it had some glaring holes in it but what the heck we are there for entertainment and it entertained.

I liked it a lot. Only downfall was having that Miles Teller guy in it as Goose's son, I literally can't stand that guy and was hoping he got the same fate as his father before him. The only good movie his cocky ass I liked was "Whiplash" when Schlenger from Oz was tormenting him.
