It's impossible for them to just "let it go".
Suspension of disbelief just doesn't happen with pilots.

How do I know this you ask. Yeah, Dad.
My wife “coached” me to suppress my comments while watching the film. The flying and flight scenes are incredible (sure, some of the combat maneuvers are questionable), but the portrayal of naval aviators is pure Hollywood. That level of douchbaggery simply would not be tolerated, and nobody gets in each other’s grill over flying tactics. Although Maverick mentioning the NATOPS manual brought a small tear to my eye.

from a bike point of veiw,

he rode an H2R in the scene when he rides next to the runway, but later on hes on a H2 road version with a back seat ,

picky i know,

interesting story behind Kawasaki being in the films that came out with some moto gp jounalists, , in the original it was meant to be a Honda that they gave them, but Honda would not sign off on it being ridden with no helmet, so they went and got the GPZ900, then in this one they had got a Ducati Duval, but Tom Cruise insisted that Maverick rides a Kawasaki, and apparently used his own H2R in that scene,

Probably the most unrealistic part is that a fighter pilot his age is actually scheduled for flight hours.
Or the pilot with the glasses. My good friends brother in law is an Air Force pilot. That's not happening.
Vision has to be correctable to 20/20, so glasses are ok up to a certain point.

As for Tom Cruise's age and flying, I worked for an admiral who was pushing 60, and he flew "his" F/A 18 all the time. He wasn't doing a lot of tactical stuff like I'm sure the movie portrays Cruise doing, but he kept himself current. Plus, he just loved flying.

Navy still requires 20/20 up to winging. Afterwards you can wear cheaters…

I seen it the day it came out, I loved it, I also seen the original when it first came out at the cinema's. Having watched it I would suggest anyone who hasn't seen the original Top Gun should see it first because there will be a lot of references that may go straight over your head.

That is cool AF right there. Say what you want about TC, but the guy is amazing and knows how to promote his films.

I cleaned a recruiters office when I was a teenager, this pic makes me laugh. Most that signed up for a certain job never made it at that and had a more blah job.

I haven’t read this thread to avoid spoilers but, I thought the meme was funny as heck and appropriate.

My son had no idea when he signed papers he would end up an 0602. The USMC does not (well, back in those days they didnt) guarantee what your MOS would be and told you so up front.

Watched it last night and loved it, not one complant. I'll probably see it at least one more time in theatre.

And in reference to the H2 and H2R in two different scenes, maybe he owns both in his hanger full of toysSmile

speaking of the H2 and H2R i can't remember which Mission Impossible, maybe 2?... anyway there was a chase scene and the tires switch from slicks to knobbies mid scene. i remember when that shit used to bother me. but now, i'm just there to be entertained.

after listening to the Pat McAfee show yesterday i'm more amped up to see this movie than ever. glad to hear that it's getting glowing reviews, he's a fuckin wierdo but Tom Cruise is one of the biggest badass actors ever.

I saw it with my wife tonight. It was just as good as the first time. A lady in front of us stood up afterwards and said “ I’m worn out!”

Saw it today and it was great, lot's of scenes to get the adrenaline going and TC is definitely a bad-ass. I saw one interview with him when they were promoting the movie on an aircraft Carrier and he flew in on a trick helicopter.
So he has a Helicopter and a Pilots license, rides Turbo Kawi's and does his own stunts.

yes like others have said in this thread he's wacky but definitely stands above most of the Hollywood fakies.

And yes I agree this is a must-see on the BIG SCREEN with the awesome sound in a theater.
Would not be the same at home, trust me on this one.
DUG the early scene when they show the tail of the hypersonic aircraft and it had the SKUNK Works symbol on it Here's a cool video I guess SKUNK works did have a say and assisted in the movie.

https://youtu.be/j4qwMGd2wmQ

It lived up to all the hype--go see it! 👍

I’ll preface that I’m a huge fan of the original and a big aviation enthusiast in general. I loved it. Watching it in 4DX was something else.

So beating to windward and they're going to fly a spinnaker?
Hmm... Sounds reasonable. Pinch

So your critiquing the Sailing scene of the Top Gun movie, guess there wasn't much else to complain about? Laughing

Meanwhile an ELITE Top Gun instructor Dave Berke gives an excellent overview with Jocko Smile 👍
