Rode the KTM 450 FE all weekend here is a quick 1st impression... Bike feels maybe a little bigger (My previous bike is Mod '21 450 sxf) it takes a little more effort to initiate turn in but once in the corner it tracks really good and feels planted. Power felt good map 2 is solid not really a big hit but pulls really good thru mid (think tractor) wouldn't say night and day faster than old bike.. Only briefly tried quick shift and map 1 so no real opinion yet. Suspension wasn't broken in but felt good with stock settings no major complaints I have set of Xact pro's im going to try next. Overall I had a lot of fun riding it and cant wait to get some time on it and get it really set up

Only an opinion nothing scientific

Can anyone confirm that the old rear wheel will fit with diff spacers? I tried a wheel off of my 21 with the new spacers but hub seems too wide? do I need to remove dust seals also? any info would be appreciated!!! thanks

I'm betting there will be several places selling spacers to make the old wheels fit, at least I hope so!

Did any ones FE come with a paper owners manual ?

Nope, didn't even get the normal KTM zip up binder with all the little odds and ends. I was given a box with air pressure gauge, the holeshot device, small bag with tools, looks like a spacer/axle bushing (just 1) and that is it. Just ended up downloading the manual on phone/computer for now.

Better yet, have you found anywhere that has the parts fiche besides KTM's website to actually order/get spare parts? Trying to get some air filters/airbox cover etc.
KTM hasn't sent paper manuals with bikes for 2 ish years now it seems. They went to online downloads sometime around the start of Covid, probably due to supply issues with the manuals themselves.

As far as the parts fiche, I'd be surprised if you see one for these bikes until the 2023 bikes start hitting the floor, as i doubt any online retailers are going to make a special spot for two bikes in that 22.5 year range. That being said, the part number for the air filter is A46006015000, and it looks like they are already on backorder. I'm not seeing anything listed for an airbox cover if you are talking about the wash covers. I'd imagine those will be more readily available when the 2023 bikes hit as well.

That’s weird. My 21 fc450 came with paper manuals. I hope one of these plastics companies has some thing soon.

If you can buy an fe for msrp or less it is still probably a decent deal. A ‘22 450 sxf is $10.7k msrp. A ‘23 is probably going to be $11k. $11.7k to get the better clamps and other options is probably not a bad deal in comparison. If it is getting extra mark up because it is “exclusive” then yeah wait for the ‘23 regular model.
My thoughts also. If I can get a 250 FE or RE for MSPR($10,500) I think it’s good. I’d bet that the 23 250s/350 will $10,000+...

I'd be shocked if they're not 12 k otd

2021 was the last year of paper manuals for KTM/HusQ/ GasGas. everything from M.Y. 2022 forward is a PDF.

Here is the link to the online manuals if anyone needs it - https://www.ktm.com/en-us/service/manuals.html

I have heard that replacement parts for the 22.5 FE are non-existent now, especially air filters from any brand.

These bikes are great, but if you fuck a part up in a crash or something breaks then no parts are readily available to the consumer yet, unless the old part happens to fit.

Talked to Faster USA about the wheels, he said they will have most likely make some sort of bearing insert for the older model rear wheels IF the hub width is the same. Of course front wheels will still fit as well as front suspension.

Ordered a couple of air cleaners (stock Twin Air) for my FE a couple of weeks ago from my KTM dealer, part number A46006015000. My understanding is Twin Air will have air box wash covers in about 2-weeks (no idea about part number for cover from KTM yet - just straight from Twin Air)....

I’m watching for the spare parts to arrive so I can purchase a set of those sweet looking new foot pegs. Not sure if they’ll fit my ‘19, but it’s worth a try!

The new seals have a different part number and per the description a larger inner diameter. So, likely the new spacers cannot be inserted far enough into the older seals.

Anymore ride reports?

I was able to get out to Horn Rapids MX this past weekend for a couple days and log a few more hours (at 5 now on the bike). Horn Rapids is a fast open track (4th gear open on this bike if you want) along with other tracks like their Area 51 sand track. Bike is settling in (suspension is breaking in nicely... motor is amazing for me, etc.). The bike is comfortable and continues to impress me. For kicks though I let Dwight Dillon (AMA Pro card holder/A rider) who has some very tricked out KTM 250/350/450 bikes (including their 21 model) give it a spin to get his thoughts as he is far more critical and has spent significant time on the Austrian bikes and really wanted to see the changes...

He did a few laps in Map 1 and then I told him try Map 2 for comparison (not telling him what I thought first)...

His impressions... "This bike is definitely faster than the older models" first words when he came back... 2nd, he was like, this bike puts you in the attack position (forward) more than the prior models (I had sag at 105mm for my weight and he might of been a little lighter/similar weight but hard to tell I didn't ask)... he thought the pegs could be part of that reason, but the rider triangle/ergos impressed him a lot and he really liked that comfort. He then went out and put on Map 2... he came back and mimic'd what I thought and other reviews have said... Map 2 definitely has punch down low but it signs off a little faster than Map1... for Horn Rapids where you can hold 3-4th gear WFO this makes sense... he actually preferred Map 1 for the linear good pull through the entire rpm range.

So that's the latest... also I have a 21 KTM rear wheel I could potentially check if I get enough time this week (they include another spacer with the bike when you purchase). I assume the spacer given is for this exact reason on the rear wheel, although I haven't pulled the wheel yet to verify, but from what others have said and I hear it's the spacers and seals that need to be switched.

I think the spacer is to be used if you don’t use the front disc guard. At least that is the way my Husky Rockstar was.

Not relevant to the ride report, but Jeremy, Austin and all the guys at AEO are top notch. I've been doing business with them for years and have purchased several bikes through them. Just sending them a little props.

I rode my buddy's new Rockstar on Monday, and it was pretty nice. It's way better looking than the previous versions. The motor was very snappy and it was fast. They did a great job on the new engine and the new ECU mapping seems spot on with how quick revving it was considering how sluggish right off idle the previous 3-4yrs Austrian 450s were. We swapped out the rear shock spring and put his cone valves on and set everything up. Wait until you see how the rear spring is held on to the new shock. We both were rolling our eyes. All in all it's a great bike and I'm sure everyone who gets one or the new FE450 will be pretty pumped.

Bike really corners extremely well, the rear of the bike is really the only difference I feel with the bike. It no longer has that ktm sag to it. Dropped bike off at jbi yesterday at jbi to get suspension valves to see how amazing we can make this bike feel

Well I went to do my first oil change and my bottom drain was missing the screen from the factory. Not a big deal but I need to find out if it’s the same. They also fixed the wiring connectors. Here’s the air box cover.

Where did you get the airbox cover? I can't find that part anywhere.

I've done a couple oil changes now, the oil screen is the same as older models including filter... for whatever reason they changed the oil filter with a 1 at the end... but if you go to KTM service -> parts finder and pull up the 23 model you will see the same part # as the 22 year for those parts.

The one I showed is my friends, my cover is coming tomorrow. We ordered it from a distributor since I couldn’t find that number either. Thanks for the screen info. I also did my first oil change and saw the 1 on the oil filter and was worried. From what I found that was the old part number for filters since they look identical. It’s a discontinued number and it says the normal number when you check the fiche.
