Moving from Switzerland to the US: should I take my 2012 KTM 150 SX?

Hi,

Ive had this bike for whiles and love it. Now that we are moving to the US to buy a small farm and live the rural life, I can finally live my dream of having my own MX track.

Should i take a model that old to the US considering it's KTM and not a Japanese bike?

Would I need to do anything to run on the fuel there vs the fuel here?

Many thanks for any advice!

Ktms are just as common here as the jap bikes. If it makes sense to ship it rather than sell it and buy one here then just bring it

I would sell it, with what you pay to ship it you can have a new one. Am assuming of course that used bikes are valuable in Europe.

And I do think that euro bikes & bike here in US are setup to run different fuel!

A 2 stroke is a 2 stroke no matter where you live. No such thing as a euro 2 stroke and it runs different fuel than a U.S. 2 stroke.

I would think depending on where you are moving to in the U.S. the fuel will be better over here. Doesn't all the fuel in Europe have atleast 10% ethanol? Over here in most states you can still find ethanol free gas at the pump

Bikes are stupid high prices right now, keep it. I shipped 2 40' containers and 2 cars of all our stuff moving from US to GEO.

Fuel is no problem. I run the green pump in all my stuff. Just ask for super or premium in the US.

You can probably get a new 150sx for $9k USD out the door in the US or a newer used one for $6-7k just for reference.

Considering the cost of everything over there is beyond ridiculous and the franc has an edge on the dollar right now, I would most likely sell. I don't know the dirtbike market over there but if it's anything like the rest of the country you can probably buy a new one here for what you sell yours for.

You guys are forgetting that his bike has a VIN. He'll have to jump through a lot of red tape, most likely - even for an off-road motorcycle. Heaven forbid if he's actually coming here to California!

Langston fan, look that part up before you leap. It may be easier and more cost-effective to sell your bike and buy a new one here. Good luck.

He could break it down and ship it if not planning on registering it for the road.

There was a member who packed his TC125 in his suit case from across the pond so he could ride it in Cali while on vacation, was pretty ingenious and didn’t cost him too much for extra baggage charges IIRC.

Jeff Fredette did the same thing with a kdx200 to race the ISDE!

I may or may not have known some military individuals that broke down bikes and cars and shipped them back. It worked. lol
