So there’s a few threads on specific people, but can we give a massive applause to tonight’s top 3?

It’s seems like before this season, a lot of people were writing them off and laughed at the idea of them being title contenders.

I mean they each improved in literally every previous shortfall they had:

Anderson has his drive back, Sexton is becoming insanely consistent and Tomac is back to having his whoop and corner speed back in control.

Idk, what’s everyone’s thoughts? I don’t know how the rest of the season or outdoors will look, but I genuinely hope one of these 3 snag the championship.

It's highly highly unlikely that one of these top 3 won't win the championship, though Roczen isn't far behind in the points. I can't find a championship in the last 20 years where someone who hasn't won in the first 4 races has gone onto win the overall. Tomac winning the 4th was a more crucial win, from a statistical perspective, than many might realise.

Roczen is 23 points down in 9th.

It is very early in the season but that’s a rough deficit when there’s 5-6 guys that could win a race

I would think that the fact that there's 5-6 guys who can win a race makes the deficit less significant.

I made an error. I was looking at the champs table pre-race. Roczen does have a mountain to climb indeed.

I agree! Immediately after the race I thought one of those three is going to take the title.
Kenny‘s not riding very smart and doesn‘t fight back once he‘s been on the ground.
Coop just doesn’t have the speed right now. For a lap maybe, but not in the race. He‘s very static on the bike and has a hard time making quick line changes and stuff. Compare him to El Hombre and you see what I mean.

The cream is slowly rising to the top.... I agree, these will be the 3 main guys this year. Ferrandis could be a player if he ever gets a good start.

DF was looking way better last night.

It would be awesome if him and AP start throwing themselves into the mix, this will probably be one the most nail biter seasons in a long time.

This still begs the question, and it’s a fun one…

How many different winners this year?

Remember how everyone said 450’s were ruining supercross? Myself included.

Yeah forget that this season has been fantastic so far.

We are already at 4 in 4 races so I would say that 6 are easily possible.

In past years ET has had a difficult time with consistent finishes throwing away at least 1 or 2 races hurting his points battle but so far he has been the most consistent with Sexton being close.

It is great not having 1 rider completely dominating every race making it boring

Hell, I’ll even double down on your last sentence:

How freaking badass of a race would final round in SLC be if the points were close enough for anyone of 5-7 riders be in the spot for the title?

Depth of the field definitely gives Ken some hope if he can get starts and and some wins. He just has no room for anymore bad races now.

DF, MM, CW and maybe even AP (injured?) or MS could grab a win so I think we'll easily se 6-7 winners this year.

I can’t disagree, especially with AP, Tomac, Stewart and Ando.

Seems like the brand change that took place was in the best interests of everyone.

Idk, for me Anderson and Sexton are absolute favorites of mine. Anderson because i have a very similar riding style to him in terms of body positioning and Sexton because I really admire how he is able to make the bike do a lot of the work for him and doesn’t appear to try as hard.

Sexton sure has the starts dialed. Always in a good position to start the race

I think in a season like this anything is still possible. As you say 5-6 guys can win. And like 10 guys can podium. Which means it's not as abnormal as usually to make up 10 points on the points leader in a single round (Kenny winning and Eli finishing 7th after a 35th place start).
With a less competitive field it would be much harder to make up ground. See 250W.

What worries me more is that he just doesn't seem to have the speed. He was in a perfect position at A2. In the lead with two guys that probably won't pass him (#12 and 27) between him and his main rivals. Anderson blew by them and pulled up to Kenny within a couple of laps easily. He probably would have ended up behind Sexton or Ferrandis had he not crashed. Even at A1 he wasn't really the fastest guy.

I don’t think anyone was laughing at the idea of Tomac being a title contender. I would assume the majority was saying he’s one of the favorites.
1/30/2022 5:47pm
Tomac has been the favorite ever since his been on a 450, Anderson has not been himself since his 2018 win, change of scenery can do wonders for riders mentality.

A happy Tomac is a fast Tomac, what's scary is he hasn't even peaked yet he's at about 90% of his ability at the moment.

I love peoples excuses for Tomac in his off years the best one is "everyone has gotten faster" not a chance, The eye test proves that.

I honestly expected him to struggle on the new bike in the first part of the season and then come on strong later. He has surprised me.

Webb has been the biggest surprise so far for me though. Zero wins after four rounds, and he doesn't look like the same guy. 2nd, 7th, 4th, and 8th.

Agree with the OP, Anderson, Tomac, or Sexton will most likely win the title.

I'm really surprised at CW's struggles as well. I was more unsure of how Tomac would fare on the Yamaha. I thought I read that the new KTM was shorter and really suited Webb's style bla bla.... I guess that's why they have to go racing! I hope Tomac can pull off another title, but either way the tight field is great! Hopefully we get some tracks that allow for more passing.

If I'm honest, I kinda wrote Anderson off. I didn't think he had the drive anymore to be a consistent podium threat, let alone title threat. I was wrong.

Completely agree Yeti. Those three seem to have their ducks in a row.

I’d say 6 maybe even 7
Tomac
Kenny
Sexton
Anderson
Webb
Then maybe someone like mookie AP or DF etc pulls one off as a “wild card”
