The private message function is the worst of any forum I've ever been apart of in the past 15 years.

That's really my only gripe.

The more tech articles the better.

About those shootouts…

They’ve evolved over the years. A potentially good way to continue that evolution may be to take a page out of the old school test book and start hanging on to the bikes for a while and “spend some time” with them.

It seems to me that Vital has spent a fair amount of time conveying the thoughts and opinions of “Regular People” when it comes time to rate the bikes and discuss how they work for the average racer. I like that.

Over these last few years, having ML, Klinger & Ping…all…at one time or another…involved in creating and conducting shootouts has brought different perspectives and different attributes to the process. Now, I believe, all that’s left to do is…

Put them all together. Have all 3 involved in a more thorough and longer time lined shootout.

Oh…and then…hang on to the the bikes and work on “fixes” and revisions to make them all a little bit better.

Myself and Klinger were in both this year, the only reason Ping wasn't is because he was sick when one was done and had a work conflict on the other.

OEMs won't let us hang onto all of them to do any mods and do another Shootout. KTM, Husky, and GASGAS only had two 450s this year each to use for all the media outlets.

I'm going to try and privately source them again for 2023 Shootout, like I did when I was on my own.

Seeing as how I had to make a new account because everyone is offended by widdle words...I'd say majority has gone soft and doesn't ride enough anymore. Too many keyboard warriors and not enough racers. And not many have reasoning behind what they say.

New account because your old one is locked? Sorry Haywood, this one is locked now too. If you want your old one re-instated, email me. If you want to keep creating new accounts, the permanent ban route can be discussed.

Simply because anonymity on social media breeds chicken shit behavior. Many already hide behind their screen names, if you want to tell someone you think their post sucks sign your name to it. It’s just the principle of it. Otherwise just remove the dislike button altogether if the fear is it will cause problems because evidently to some, it already does.

See this is much better than an anonymous downvote. I’m not offended either way, I just like transparency.

I think he picked up his ball and took it home. I see him trolling DrMarkR's posts on Facebook fairly often.

Yes please! That shootout where you sourced your own bikes was sooo good! Cut those ties to the OEMs and give customers honest reviews as soon as the bikes hit the showroom floor. Love it!

It’s easier to use Google to search Vital.

Go to Google. Type in vitalmx.com: search terms

Works great.

I think the upvote should be anonymous also - it just doesn't matter to me who upvoted.
The votes draw more attention than other lesser or non-voted comments and saves time reviewing.
I also prefer to just upvote when someone says something that I am thinking also, rather than spam the forum with more of the same commentary. Unique things to say, interesting, great. Just not a "ditto" type response.

Another reason why I'd like upvotes anonymous. It sometimes locks up my phone when it thinks (I mistakenly) held the button down too long and the upvoters names show up.

Links in notifications should take us to the exact page and post of what's being responded to. Right now you gotta click across the pages to find where the reply is.

Haven’t seen you around here much, good to still see some of the character s from way back post, when so many are gone in some way or another. It was endless entertainment, a lot of personalities back then, made it fun!
Different times now.
Cheers

Constantly having to request mobile application instead of desktop to view posts, messaging is trash like always.

You have to use Facebook or Google to sign up for or have a account. Identities don’t have to be give, but this will crackdown on users signing up under a different user name.

As far as forums, I still appreciate the non BBS format in last 10 years.

I still get annoyed by the pre-race and post-race single IMO threads instead them using the bench racing threads.

Agree on search.. if someone says search the forum, I don't know if they are being funny or serious. The biggest problem with search is it does not sort new to oldest or allow a more detailed search to filter out unwanted results. Just simple filter "Search Last Year, Search This Month" would be really helpful instead having to specify dates.

The old school non responsive layout drive me nuts, but I'm a web developer.

BTW, youtube which I like has switch to a format where when you dislike something, it doesn't show count anymore but just show highlighted you selected, and then just shows to the OP the count, not the entire forum. That would be a cool way to fix the dislike. then keep the like count to encourage positive votes. If not many likes, then it's obvious not popular, but not negatively shown with dislikes giving the troll their click heroin fix.. Smile

Now that all said the amount of post that occur in a week, 80% of them seems unpopular, so getting a weekly email for the top weekly popular discussion 5 thread would be cool to be able to jump to them instead scanning daily to find valued vital members content. And if it contain advertising in the email, I'm good with that, just encourage the advertiser to make a Vital Members only deal so getting the email feel more exclusive and not spam.. etc..

Hope that helps..

The site is doing well in my opinion!

I enjoy all technical content on this site like the current "Pit Bits" from supercross and I would really like to see more similar content from MXGP's and maybe Japanese nationals if possible because they have really trick stuff on their bikes

Down votes are pretty lame in my opinion and could be removed. Those who want to keep the down votes say that given down don't matter to them so what's the point of those anyway?

PM system definitely needs a upgrade

Bike Builds section is great and have some really amazing builds. Maybe there could something like "Bike Build Of The Month" to give some recognition for the best bike builds

Keeping political stuff away from the forum is the right thing to do. The world is too much polarized already and I don't want read that stuff on Motocross forum

I enjoy more written stuff with good pictures but videos with crispy sounding two stroke's are always welcome

My quick 2 cents...

The upvotes/downvotes....don't give a shit. I totally understand the reasoning to why people shouldn't see who downvoted them...it will only cause more issues, more fights, more drama. I say keep it as is and we keep going or remove it entirely so people don't get butthurt. I will say though, it's always funny to see someone get a ton of downvotes for w/e reason. Always gives me a chuckle.

Anything like pit bits, rider interviews, behind the scenes of race teams or insider details on bikes is always awesome. Even though I can't ride anymore I'm always fascinated by the evolution and technology of engines, ECU's, fabrication, etc. Having some sort of a Q & A with a pro rider (factory or privateer) would be an awesome segment to have maybe once a week or twice a month.

PM's and the search function are terrible but honestly I rarely ever use either so not high on my list. I usually find what I'm looking for somehow or if I need/want to get in touch with someone I'll just shoot them my email. From what I've read that may be fixed soon though.

Finally....I totally agree on the Ping segments. I used to love reading the articles but now that it's gone to video format I find myself skipping over most of it. Not sure why....I'm usually listening to podcasts all day while working so it's easier to just read an article than watch a video. If I had to choose though between having video or having nothing at all....I'd still take vids. Just a minor inconvenience.

I don't have nearly as many posts as some guys here but I'm on this site several times every day checking the home page and forums. I work from home, physically can't ride anymore but still a diehard. I'd be willing to volunteer to help in any way if needed, can always just hit up my email. I've got time, love this sport with all my heart and very much enjoy this site and appreciate all you guys do.

The likes/dislikes seems childish. They don’t need to be here but since they are, downvotes should not be anonymous it just encourages troll behavior.

I still visit here more than anywhere else on the net so you’re doing something right, just wish those functions would come out of the stone age.

Michael......I actually enjoy it here now that you took over. The last 4 - 5 years I thought Steve over policed this site , to the point a lot of long time members either left on their own , or got banned if Steve was in a bad mood. I think the pit bits , bike tests and so forth are really well done as well.
I agree with you guys. The DM and search features weirdly don't really work well. It would be much easier to connect with friends via DM if it worked better. I liked the old old days, Fresh Dirt, Motodrive and Vital is good. I did like it when there was a crew of super fun funny creative posters on here. It's still great and I am coming back from a several year hiatus but there are a high number of douchenozzle youngsters on here but they are easy enough to ignore.

How's it going Jeffro and nytsmaC? Did you guys see my Fly commercial during supercross? WE filmed it in Oregon this fall.
