Does Hunter just get a free pass?

See....I think all of the riders compressing to that smaller area thought Bernoulli's principle would make them go faster.....but it doesn’t work with dirt bikes...bummer.

I don't think it's illegal. He's not starting on an angle and he's on the grate. Starting on each side of the doghouse gives the rider a little more space to maneuver.

I like Craig, super smooth and stylish, if he backs it down and doesn't try to stick it in there the whole field gets through clean. But what do I know?

I agree with Regis. As subtle as it was, When they showed the replay a few times those same thoughts crossed my mind as well. I know Craig got beat off the gate, it's racing and who knows for sure.

Weird thread bro haha like it kinda seems like you're saying he has every right to do something and in fact he should've done it but asking if people are just gonna give him a pass for doing the thing he had every right to do and should've done
He had the lead on those inside him and he broke as hard as he did cause he wanted to try to keep to the inside of Mosiman as he should.. Are some suggesting he should worry what others would want him to do so they get a better start?

Not a fan of his podium interviews lately. People like the Lawrence brothers for their personality, then he comes up on the podium finishing second and is pissed off like a toddler. That's the antithesis to his popularity. Anyone outside of the top ten would probably be willing to literally blow a hobo to have his abilities. He's losing his grounding.
This 100%. I hate his attitude on the podium.

He’s not joking because that’s exactly what happened; Mosiman got the best jump and swept across, as he can with track position. Hunter also had a good jump, but not as good as Mosiman, so he moves further inside as Mosiman comes across, as he can with track position.
Craig and others on the inside don’t get a good enough jump and are squeezed as Mosiman and Hunter sweep inside. Craig doesn’t back out of it and moves tight inside as if no one’s there and is hit inside by Blose and across into Schimoda etc.
Craig’s initial contact with the back of Hunter is minimal. If you hit the back of someone, who has the track position? Craig cut inside even harder than Mosiman and Hunter did. If he’d backed out of it instead, would there have been a pileup?

You can say Mosiman caused it, you can say Hunter caused it, you can say Craig caused it, but at the end of the day It’s just a racing incident, nothing more, and it’s not the first or last time we’ll see it.

And Craig got the worst of it but could have avoided it all if he would have back it off a bit when he saw he was beat to the corner, makes no difference anyway because he came right back to the front and did just fine.

I get all fair in love and war, but a little early to be doing that right?

In all seriousness, the move over was necessary and is a part of racing. I just believe that once the position was made a little extra braking was done to bunch that inside up. Thats a real pro move, that people are missing.

I am not crying foul. It is a part of racing, just an observation.
Hunter doesn't need a pass, he did nothing wrong. Cool

I had a half dozen gate drops back in 1987, it looks like Craig's fault.

Kicking and screaming?
Or just disappointed?
Hunter isn't Jett, he's usually pretty reserved

Have you ever lined up and took a gate drop? This is completely normal. If you have a wheel on a guy you better be crowding him and taking that spot. Not a damn thing dirty there and it’s total natural instinct no matter what class, age or skill level.

I have had a few gate drops in my time. 1999 Houston SX 125cc was one of my finer ones. Binghamton outdoor that year in the first moto was pretty good as well. Glen Helen 125cc national I had a stellar one once. But enough about me.....

Moving over is not the question. Thats all fair. I think it was a little extra braking once the position was made to bunch up the inside. Its a real pro move that isn't being talked about. Pretty cheeky and well played.
You made me raff grasshopper

Single digit career number:

-Win a 450 SX and/or MX championship
-Win the 250 MX championship

Double digit career number:

-Win a 250 SX championship
-Finish top 10 in combined SX/MX points (250 and 450) at the end of the year.

A 450 SX/MX champion and a 250 MX champion can also select a 2 digit career number if they'd like. Jett Lawrence could have chosen 4, 5, or 8 but decided to stick with 18. The same applies with Ferrandis who decided to stick with 14.

Riders who have earned a career number are also allowed to change it once.

So you didn’t like Carmichael’s, Reed’s, Stew’s, Villo’s etc, attitudes?!
P.S. I didn’t see any kicking and screaming, just regret for win’s that were within reach, but got away.

Still don’t like the fact that 250 championships count for a single digit, but them’s the rules.

I can’t tell exactly what happened, but about 2 seconds after the gate drop, Craig’s back end kicked to the right suddenly. It tightened him up to Hunter quite a bit. Maybe it’s a glitch in the video and he just swerved?

Yes. Very weird thread.

The title of the tread was a question to spark discussion. I believe Hunter shouldn’t be punished at all by the powers that be. What I believe he did isn’t against any rules. It’s racing.

I do believe wholeheartedly that he cut and slowed more than needed knowing Christian was there. It’s all fair. It’s been done before and will be done in the future. Yes I saw Mosiman cut him off and yes I know the corner closes fast.

Only Hunter knows for sure.

How many times have we seen the guy in Hunter's position get punted high-side? That's an awfully risky move. I'm guessing Hunter was just trying to hug the inside, not intentionally brake checking the field.
Agree 100%. When I saw it, I thought he might have braked a little more than necessary, but after watching it a bunch of times I don't think so. Can't tell for sure though. DAMN that is a risky move for getting taken out from behind with multiple riders breathing down your neck.
