Too many California races?

I know California is still the "heartbeat/center" of the sport, but after watching races last night in Oakland, it looked like the stands were maybe 35-40% full. This seems to be a common trend when we constantly schedule 3-5 races in the same small area every season, and the same with Pro Motocross.

I don’t have any great ideas, but doesn’t it seem like maybe it would be a good idea to move into some other venues? I know it’s not just as easy as saying "were going to have a SX at "X" stadium, but it just seems like something needs to change to gather a larger audience.

I'd say it was more due to everyone in the damn country having covid right now. Either the fans had it and couldn't go, or didn't want to catch it.

Oakland is like 7 hours/500 miles from the other CA rounds, it serves all of Northern/Central California.

That stadium is one of the worst in America. I’m guessing Feld paid about $100 to rent it out so the lower attendance isn’t as big of a deal there so we’ll probably keep seeing races in Oakland.

Is it just me or did someone comment on attendance at a public event during the week with record breaking COVID case numbers?

If it wasn’t so oblivious to the reality of what’s goin’ on, it would probably be funny.

I have been/stayed in almost every major city in the contiguous US. Oakland by far was the worst overall. Not a fan for certain.

I would take St Louis or Atl any day over Oakland. There are definitely bad parts in each city but I sure as shit couldn't find any good parts in Oakland.

Does it have more to do with stadium availability and weather? The Cali rounds are all baseball stadiums and open roof plays nice with mild winters.

Most of the indoor stadiums are also nfl stadiums and you never know which ones will be needed and when in January.

Also Oakland stadium can hold 56k people… of course it’s going to look empty, when A1 only pushed 41 or 42 for the season opener

Like others said Oakland isn’t even close to the other races in CA.,, If it where back East the distance would put in a state or two away.

When I lived up North it was a little over an hour away from Oakland. The fact that Oakland or the stadium sucks really makes no difference in going to the race, all we need is a place to sit to watch Supercross!

Now that I’m older I’d rather just stay home and watch it on TV, so where the race is held means almost nothing. Although I will say the races should start earlier for the East Coast viewers. I see nothing wrong with starting the races at 5 pst. time. It’s already getting dark enough then to make it a good show.

Way too many California rounds but I get why they want to go to North California and south California but having an a1,a2 and a3 is ridiculous. One for sure. Two okay maybe if they both sell out, three is just overkill.

I was at Anaheim and Oakland and for sure Oakland had less people and the stadium quality and amenities sucks ass compared to Anaheim or the SF Giants Stadium. but the stadium floor is huge and provides the opportunity to build a long lap timed track.

It’s like no one can win. Vital gripes if the lap times are too short but also if the stadium doesn’t have enough people.

Also, it’s a very short trip for the teams and feld so where else are they going to go while keeping other west coast rounds easily accessible?

Exactly. The football stadiums are all in use and not all baseball stadiums are enclosed. With the big freeze going on right now what would attendance be like and how would the teams do in 20 degree weather the pits?

If you don't live here, you don't see how this is THE hub of Off Road motorcycling in the world. There is a reason A1, A2, and A3 get better attendance than most other races

People like to bash this state but we are the ones with a surplus during a pandemic.

Atlanta Motor Speedway is fine, ever been to Hampton/Griffin, GA it’s a different state compared to Atlanta.

Our 9th grader moved into the online version of the public school this year so he could play sports and the public school curriculum is a joke. It was way too easy for him, he is going to either skip a grade or take some community college courses next year. Just google "homeschool test scores vs public school". There are always exceptions both ways, but I find it funny that some people seem to think public school in America is the equivalent of sending your kid to Stanford or something!

You switched from saying California has bad public schools to saying the public schools across the nation are bad. You should look up California versus the rest of the nation and evaluate what you are saying

Interesting thing: The security and service staff at Oakland have been very nice and accommodating. One of my guys arrived late & without the ability to get a credential. They -escorted him- to the semi he needed to go to in order to drop off some parts.

Amazing.
