I replace tires because the rubber has hardened not because the tread is worn.

Long post Mav, I know. Hey, at 68, when your memory’s rollin’, ya gotta go for it...

My first race bike was a used 1974 Elsinore 250 that had been cut/welded for longer-travel suspension. It broke in two.

My first motovan was a very used 1967 Chevy Van. Literally towed it home on Friday, swapped the blown inline 6 for a small block V8 in a driveway on Saturday, then drove it to a race on Sunday. Powerglide and 4:10 gears. Hell of a burnout machine when empty. Struck fear in the dad’s heart every time I drove a girl home.

(Related sad story for car guys. Earlier, I’d sold my old beater car to race mx. Said beater was a 1966 Pontiac GTO ragtop with a 389 tri-power, Muncie M-22 Rockcrusher 4-speed w/console-delete, 3.9 Posi rear, metallic brake linings, no power-steering nor brakes. Yeah, I know, coulda-woulda-shoulda kept it.)

I raced against both Gary and David Bailey at the same Montreal Supercross. The Icon was like 15 and racing his first ever Pro event alongside his step-dad. Yup, on a Pursang.

I met Super Hunky at Indian Dunes. Pretty sure he’d driven there in the G.Y.D.B.T.. Proudly told me he’d been to Canada, that his ol’lady was from Taronta (per his intentional pronunciation).

I taught retired road-racing legend Miguel Duhamel at a mx school when he was a kid on an 80. (RIP Yvon)

I was already over 30 when I rode the Dutch ISDE in 1984. Canadian Trophy Team. On Silver at Day 3. Got officially disqualified at end of Day 4 for being too fast. Don’t ask.

I won the Golden Master (60+) class at the Snowshoe GNCC riding a painfully stock-engined 02 CR125. In 2014... Or maybe 2015... Hey, it’s been a while.

This past September, I high-sided in a 5th gear sweeper at a local mx track on my YZed125X. Biiiiggg crash (double collarbone fracture, 4 broken ribs, impact-caused blood clot in arm, internal bruising). Later, the trauma specialist walked in looking at the name on my chart with a big smile. Said you still race motocross? I checked his name tag and realized I had once tied the doc’s skates in pre-novice hockey, then coached him alongside one of my sons in Pee Wee.

Just got back from two weeks riding at Croom in Florida over mXmass Holidays. Getting back on the horse, as it were. Proudly watched my “up-and-coming” youngest son hang right there with GNCC/FTR fast-guys Jesse Ansley, Alex Lugar and Hunter Neuwirth on a practice loop. (Reality check: my youngest son’s gonna turn 29 this spring...)

Damn, I still love this sport.

-Those Side by side UTVs look pretty cool. I think I'm going to buy one. You know, as my 2nd vehicle for when I'm in the desert.
-My 250 2-stroke is still competitive.
-I used to be a lot faster; I'm just taking it easy today until I get back up to speed.
-I think I enjoy watching my kids ride more than I like to ride, myself.
-I need a bigger truck to pull my side by side. I need a toy hauler to go with the whole outfit. Oops, I'll need a bigger truck than that.

Now for vets even older than I am:
-What the hell is that white abomination? Real Husqvarnas have twin shocks.
-I like to drink a can of beer between motos; it cuts down on arm pump.
-I'm going to protest that guy in the masters class. I don't think he's a day past 49.

hanging with and keeping behind the “fast guys” at the track for a few laps, then you remember you are almost 50 tighten up and have to pull off with total body pump. Then sitting on the tailgate recovering when they cruise by, you give a thumbs up, only for them to realize you’re old and fat and they go back to their pits with head hanging in shame!!
Lmao. The head hanging in shame part my me laughing Woohoo how dare an older fellow keep up with us young bucks Pinch Silly

I remember when the tracks were just unplowed dirt. None of this prescription dirt like now days. Oh yeah most MX tracks had creek crossings!

I'm old, slow, barely ride once a month and take NSAIDS before I ride. And my bikes are surgical clean 🤣

In 1973 if you weren't on an XR75 you may as well stay home.

I thought my dad was going to have a come-a-part when he found out I paid $15 for a pair of Carrera goggles.
