Lets say you met someone who knows nothing at all about MX or SX, and may even consider it a silly thing for kids to do. How do you explain to them the passion and unrelenting attraction to the sport we all ours, that daily desire and unwavering dedication to what we do with nearly every moment of our spare time and consumes a great deal of our energy and enthusiasm.
Here is what I came up with:
1) take a finely fit human being that has elevated their physicality to the highest level possible.
2) place them on vehicle that has been designed,engineered and refined to its highest level in many different aspects of performance.
3) have them navigate a course which by means of natural selection or man created obstacles is intended to be as challenging as possible to both appreciated skill level and human performance. Next, you line up as many as many as 40 of different examples of this and allow them to proceed forward while each participant attempts to do so faster than everyone else for an extended period of time. The winner gets to kiss a pretty girl when it's over.
Oh, what a show!

I'd invite them to come ride and experience it first hand. Any other approach would be doing all parties a disservice / waste of time

BMX= Bicycle Motocross
So many people have made comments over the years when I’ve skipped training or just done a recovery session on a Monday after riding, I wish I could plonk them on a bike and let them know what it’s about. Unfortunately until you get ok at riding a bike you don’t really get the crazy fatigue.

Really though, you can’t explain it. People throw around the dunning Krueger effect a lot on the internet, but it actually applies to moto. Someone who’s never done it cannot comprehend how difficult it actually is. Even within the sport, the typical amateur rider cannot comprehend how difficult it is to go the speed a pro rider does. I have a neighbor who was a pro points scoring rally car racer and used to own a lot of street bikes. He asked about my HR watch and why I have it and I told him I use it for motos, and that I try to stay around 180bpm for racing. He was dumbfounded that the work rate was that high. He knows racing and still didn’t quite get it.
