Any thoughts on GH conditions tomorrow? Would like to go but don't want to ride a slop fest. Any info would be appreciated.

Not sure how it will be, but the desert is going to be prime for the next few weeks!

The tracks here are watered almost everyday, so when they get the extra water from a rain they are over saturated and swamped out for a couple days.

They have had over 6 inches of rain in the past 3 days. So yeah it’s still a mess and almost to wet underneath to get a good base. With more storms coming it will be a tough week and maybe only some smaller hills.
The other issue is the road is still closed and only back way in for all employees for the jail as well. Hopefully they can get a GP track for Jan 2nd.

Slop fest. Even though we don't know what a true slop fest is, this is a SoCal slop fest.

Hoping GH is open by Thursday. Supposed to dump rain tomorrow so l Tuesday isn’t looking too promising. Would love Cahuilla to open Wednesday but looks like they got hit hard also. Bummer because I’m off this week and planned on getting back on the bike after two months off. Oh well. Let’s keep this thread updated if anything opens

Thanks for the updates and video. Called in the am and recording said closed due to rain. Ended up in the desert for a great turn track, trail loop. Hopefully it will be ready for the week. Back in 1981, I raced a Golden State National race at Indian dunes and it was a slopfest.

If a Dutch man thinks it’s too sloppy to ride, then holy F. You SoCal folks have awesome weather more than most, but when the nasty stuff hits, Mother Nature is not kind to y’all.

Be safe.

If anyone’s looking for a gnarly sand track and doesn’t mind a couple hr drive north pm me for directions. Wouldn’t mind watching the Dutch give it a go..pretty much bottomless beach type sand.

It's been raining off and on for two weeks and you want to go ride a moto track?

Thanks for the updates. I've got my motorhome loaded and ready to head South. We were going to leave Bend, Oregon yesterday but it looks like a week at least will be needed for tracks to be back to somewhat normal ?

@wydopen - always wondered about that track, can anyone just roll up and ride? I always assumed its private property.

@brent - i get it. Pros gotta Pro. My comment was meant toward us average joes that wait all year for that weird stuff to fall from the sky and make the dirt perfect.

My son and I have been riding it. No problems. They finished construction on the building next to it and the people driving in and out didn’t even turn their heads when they passed us getting ready to ride or loading up on the driveway..There was a few other guys there yesterday. It’s fun..way sandier than it looks from the road. Definitely want to hit it as soon as the rain stops unless you are a sand specialist which I’m not. Good practice though

The problem is the tracks aren't open.

Many years ago I called up Starwest (now State Fair), and asked if they were going to be open.
The lady said "Well, I don't know. When it's supposed to rain, hardly anyone shows up, and then if it does rain, everyone wants a refund.".
I said "What? This isn't baseball! Tell them if it rains, practice their mud racing, and no refunds.".
She started laughing, but got my point. The day in question, it rained, they stayed open, and I had the track pretty much all to myself.
Since then I don't give them such a hard time.
But I have to state: There's only one way to get good at mud racing Smile .
If the track is open, I ride.

Track closures aside I would think that all that rain is a good thing considering the drought out there.

Did anyone ride GH today for practice and if so how was the track? Looking at racing the New Years GP tomorrow and hoping that it is still on. After the amount of rain this last week it would be a miracle to get that place back in shape in only two days.

Yeah I went today. Little windy but track was awesome. There were like three big puddles on the main that were unavoidable, but other than that the track was really good

Cool, thanks for the update and details. We will see how things are tomorrow with another day of drying out and prep. If they still run the planned 5 mile course it should be a blast.

You should be good. Glen Helen is one of the only public tracks that can handle a lot of rain

Hubbard, we were there too. You are right, a couple good sized water holes but otherwise pretty good considering the rain. What bike were you riding? I was on the # 44 CRF450.
