That’s why they just moved almost the entire motorcycle division from Torrance to Alpharetta. The South Bay is not only crazy expensive, it is also almost impossible to commute to from anywhere that isn’t.

In the real world, that's a decent job for starters and offers plenty of opportunity from what we've seen come out Bldg 500 at AHMC. Anyone noticed the vertical progression among the crew at Team Honda?

Example: a personal friend that was The Parts Guru on that team...went on to be a prototype machinist/machine operator at a biz that rapid proto's in the automotive sector & he's doing pretty damn good, too. So, there's always that.

I converted that to ohio money and its only 48k. Pretty rough

The company I work for built the race engines for Corvette racing for many years. The engines are tested so extensively that by the time race day comes around there is no doubt in your mind that it will survive and perform as expected.

Other than the 1st race on an entirely new engine platform the stress is low by the time race day comes around. The stressful part is the development and testing.

Curious what people think someone like Varner makes doing his own business? Maybe before his troubles and after?


Also, agree with TeamGreen. If you are (or I was) young and have a good work ethic, think this would be a great way to get your foot in the door. People intern for other jobs for a lot less than $80k....

In theory sounds like a fun job and easy to find someone, but reality it’s not.
Mate, my daily job, if we get it wrong, folk die in their hundreds, and Discovery make TV documentaries about it.

Honestly, i would rather be building a motor, than driving a truck for a living.

There are Motorsports jobs here in the UK that crop up at this time of year, i get calls pretty much most weeks November /December , offering a 'great opportunity', which turns out to be a 3 month contract working 4 nights a week, over the weekend, during F1 car build season.. There are guys that will do it , and take other contracts in different industries the rest of the time.

And then they want long hours out of you 'cos racing', and pretty much sums it up ... meanwhile the general skills shortage means regular jobs pay almost as much , for 37 hours a week, and more holidays, so they cant pull people in.

Red Bull will be starting up their own engine program shortly, but it isnt worth £15k a year to me to work 10 hours a week longer, and travel 2 hours a day . instead of the 9 minute drive i currently have.




Damn straight, been there, 14 looong days straight, all the hours, no margin for error, and nowhere near the pay to justify it... Gotta love the UK!

Joking aside, when Alta was hiring, i looked at that and spoke with a guy about salary and stuff, and for where they were, they needed to be paying double for me to even think about it, and thats assuming i ignored the cost of leaving the UK..

On a side note, i worked for a great family company in a small town, who paid well behind you could get in the city 30 mins away, and they always found great labour locally. .And when that started to get a little harder, they went to a 4 day week.


And as has been said, this isnt me and you building a motor, on a saturday Arvo to race at Chicken Licks, everything is build sheeted , and tested and signed off.

I worked as a privateer mechanic when I wore a younger mans clothes, it’s a grind for sure.

I applied and interviewed for this job recently. It’s not 80k a year and there’s no benefits whatsoever. I still would love to work for them but when they called me back they said Honda is “ going a different direction” 🤷🏼‍♂️

That sucks probably for the best . Not 80k and no benefits ouch. Secret rumor is there redeveloping this engine the target is 38.9 hp with a double split boost port. 1st then working on 4 strokes.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the job is easy. But it's also not rocket science. For someone with a good mechanical understanding, attention to detail and is willing to ask questions...plus a passion for moto...it'll be a badass job.
Crazy you'd make less with suspension when there is so much testing to do, and the assembly/disassembly of the components.

When you're selling the suspension there is heaps more in it, on an hourly rate just come in and go home the money would be shit.

I used to work on a Framing crew with my Dad being the boss. I can remember being 16 years old on top of a ladder with my Dad screaming "nail the fucking board". The guy is insane.
