But Herlings race SX??? Why always this stupid comparison between MXGP and Supercross??
Aren't they different disciplines?
Herlings just motocross and Chad is an expert supercross!
Another sad comparison!
to stand out, you need to dominate the big bike classes. mx2 is a stepping stone class..you arent supposed to make a career out of it
But he also raced how many champions over the years? he Battled Stew and RC4 for how many years? and Reed has how many SX wins..?
I dont think Reeds greatness goes from his championships. I think its the facts he has battled the past 7 champions and won against them all. had one of the biggest rivalry in our sport ever and than throw in his records, being from foreign country.
Reed really is the person you either loved or hated.
I get that Lites doesn't matter especially when Chad barely raced them but they're a big deal to anyone who wins them I bet, Herlings for sure though should have moved up a bit earlier especially with his strength.
Herlings is the type of rider that shows you can do things differently on a bike and do amazing things like Stewart did, He's selling him a bit short here.
He still has an old school way of thinking in regards to the bike classes. But I think most riders view it that way to be honest. They would be stoked to win lites championships still. Its a huge achievement. Shit I would be happy if i wasn't dead last in a race.
But the dream as a kid from Reeds era was to dominate the 250/450 class like Jeremy McGrath did. Or for todays crop like Ricky Carmichael did probably. Dunno when I was a kid it was all MC.
At the end of the day though it's just Reed giving his honest opinion and his history kind of supports he always felt that way about the lites class. I think he just has a bias toward the class his hero dominated though.

Here is are two videos of Herlings not crashing in whoops that doesnt contribute anything to the discussion of Reeds comments about Herlings in the sport of motocross.
Pit Row
And the Reed statement "teammates are nice to have in that scenario, because if you take the teammates away, Jeffrey doesn’t win, you know?" Without Febvre's team mate landing on Herlings then he wraps up the Championship 2 rounds early
His durability makes him one of the greats in my opinion.
He also backed himself and took world championship level pay days.
Fail on the start device and it did not release which slowed him.
"But yeah, when you look at dominance, dominance in my opinion is controlling and understanding how to win world titles or championships. He has not yet achieved that in my opinion, but as far as a badass on a motorcycle and what he can do? One of the greatest at that."
I just don't think this is a crazy take; he outlines his personal criteria for what a dominate legendary rider should be, states that Herlings has not met that criteria yet, and notes that Herlings is an absolute badass on a bike. No one has to agree with it, but I think he outlays his perspective and reasoning fairly, which is a lot better than many of his past hot takes.
While I’m here….TC222>SE72
Despite the video and assumption he can't ride SX, DV (who was at the track) publicly said on Pulp he was as fast as Marv on the stopwatch.
If Herlings wanted it, he could make it happen! No doubt in my mind!
