Fox Air Shox set-up

Edited Date/Time 12/18/2021 9:58pm
Does anyone know where there is some info on what air pressure settings to use for a vintage bike with fox air shox? I am racing a 1979 RM250 with Fox Air Shox, and I need to find out how much air to run in them

You would want to get the manual, there are hard copies all over eBay, maybe even some .pdf's online. I have a Fox monoairshock for '79 F bikes and yes setting info seems to be hard to come by. Look up Thor Lawson's site he has lots of repair parts available as well as different damping valve ball springs.

Some one here has a manual available that has all the pressure settings. Not so much per bike, but you have to calculate a few things to arrive at the settings you want. Pressurize the bladders first and then the upper chamber. I have a manual packed away somewhere if you aren't in a hurry.

I had mine rebuilt by Thor Lawson, rebound is very fast, nothing is cooler than a set of old school Fox air"s!

I went with 115/200 psi 2.3 Lever Ratio, with 215cc of oil. The rebound seems too fast to me, manual says the rebound Jet is actually Holley Main jets, How Handy!

Bob's inspiration for the original Fox Air's came from the old CZ Falta air shocks. I with help of another Vitard found him a couple sets and some rebuild kits for his museum. All aluminum construction and super lightweight.

His first attempt was this setup on his 73 Maico 400 which used a large diameter fluid hose routed to a single reservoir. Obvious reasons this didn't work out for production but he did say that this design worked quite well.

Early production Fox Airs (1975?) did not use a bladder and were single pressure in the upper body only. They did have external adjustable dampening. 200 sets produced and pretty hard to find a nice set. Ended up with about $1500.00 tied up in piecing together the almost perfect set here.

Check that welding that my nephew did on the swing arm forward shock mounts.

I have a pair of 15.75" non-black fox shocks for sale. Appears low to no use. Would need serviced from shelf storage and bike/rider set up. Call or text me at 219-276-2176.

Then there was the intermediate step between first gen and dual air versions.

I agree, miss him so much. FYI he just had a new granddaughter come into the world today.
I wonder who the other Vitard was that helped on that project 🤔 and shortened the shock bodies??

Where can I get a gauge?

With the huge amount of shock pumps available for MTB Air Shocks and Forks, the biggest problem you'll have is deciding which one to buy.

I'm going off memory here but if I'm thinking right. Jets change rebound and compression. Rebound spring that holds the ball over the jet will change rebound only. Thor at

http://www.evolutionsuspensionproducts.com/

can hook you up with jets, springs and a manual.
