Looks like the lads over at Meta could be in for a pay day. They own the Meta social handles. Looks like they are getting plenty of traction from zukerburgs Facebook parent company rebrand.

Good for them and the sport to get some extra eyes on the awesome work they do!

2 different companies are allowed to have the same name.
The issue is when a company trying to make revenue off the other companies name. In this case it's not happening so no1 will be getted sued

The payday is that META the moto magazine has the @meta instagram handle currently. I'm sure Facebook will want that handle and pay some decent money for it.

For those of you not familiar, META is a "motorcycle culture magazine" but I think they got their start in motocross. Herlings was on the cover of their first issue. Today Facebook announced that they are rebranding under the name Meta.

Never heard of the moto mag

But think your getting carried away with what Facebook is doing with Meta, it’s just a parent name.

Google did the same and has been a subsidiary to Alphabet Inc for years.

If meta does take off, it’ll work against the moto mag.

Don't think the OP is talking about people being sued.... more like Zuckerburg is gonna want those handles... so he's gonna pay!

Also, is the META motorcycle mag not something to do with Vurbmoto? So it's not just a bunch of hipsters?

Facebook owns Instagram. They’ll take that handle at will, for free.

I would suspect the fine print when you sign up to use their service says they own it all and can use how they see fit.

The magazine guys aren't going to be getting any payout IMO.

Meta is Zuck's new corporate name. So Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and all the other entities they own will be owned/operated under the name Meta. Facebook will continue as one of their platforms.

Google did something similar a few years ago with Alphabet, inc.

I doubt Meta as a corporation will have a big interest in creating a consumer facing presence on all the social media platforms. Interestingly, the only social media channel I can see them wanting @meta for, Twitter, is the one major platform that the moto Meta guys don't have.

This is most likely. I recall reading all the photos/videos/etc you upload become property of Facebook. Not sure if this applies to usernames, but if not, all Zuck has to do is drop the ban hammer for “spreading misinformation” or some other random shit. Kick them off and take their username because…. “What are they gonna do? Sue us? Hahahaha” -Fuckerberg probably

META was a dream we collectively started with vurbmoto back in 2014. While a worthwhile passion, I think it more or less allowed us, as business partners, to discover we all had new and different ambitions in life. Andrew Campo and Ben Giese took over META starting in 2015 and have, as far as I know, owned it ever since.

It's an honor to say I had a small part of the first few issues and I personally think it's amazing to see where that small crew has taken their publication. It's a very well put together coffee table book that supports many genres of our sport. And I preach this all the time: I support anyone and everyone that supports our sport. Giving it backlash because it looks hipster is just naive and ignorant. I appreciate they dedicate their lives to spreading the joy and love of motorcycles.

Props to you. I was sure it was something to do with Vurb, I remember you posting something about it way back then when Vurb closed it’s doors.

The part that many may be missing is the amount of time, money, and effort that goes into building a brand's social network and following. Removing or moving it can definitely be damaging. Obviously they aren't going anywhere, but it would be a shame for them to take a hit when they've been so passionate to grow something amazing.

Andrew at META is a fantastic human being, someone I'm proud to call a friend. It's a high quality book that has done quite well and is all about enjoying riding motorcycles of all types.

Through META we were able to work on probably the coolest "non-moto" project in my 10 years with the company to team up with Denton Moto to build a surprise gift for Steve Caballero.

Holy crap, you are right . . . WTF?

Although that article screencapped above says that Zuck's Meta will be known as @WeAreMeta on Instagram.

Of course it does. The little man has no chance.

F Zuckerberg. I don't support any of his companies.

Agree. If it’s not clear to everyone else out there that’s using these services just how damaging they are to our society and our young people, you’ve got your head way up your gigantic fucking ass.

I predict a day not too far into the distant future where people who use social media will be frowned upon and cast aside as silly dumb little lemmings. All of the young people that have grown up on these services are almost certain to have a lackluster future until they can ween themselves off of it and their addiction to their phones

Sounds like some here are unfamiliar with Meta magazine. It’s fantastic, and worth seeking out. It’s different, if you’re an old fart think Inside Motocross. The quality of the print, artwork and writing is top notch.
