Kx100 powerband

I got a 2021 kx100 a couple months ago (thanks for the advice!), and its my first smoker ive had. Why does the powerband feel so high up in the rpms like its redlining? i hear 125 and 250s have a powerband peak under the redline, but my bike just keeps charging till it redlines. Anyone know why?

i think im pretty used to it. just placed second in a harescramble and i got it in august. it might be that

ive redlined it then rode it with powerband, and it just sounds so familiar.

I think the KX100 comes stock with the purple powerband... that's the high RPM powerband... put in a yellow powerband if you are looking for low-end torque..

All the above, but that bike will still pull until it revs out. Let it rev to keep it happy. When you hear the revs hang up a little, you know that's where the power is signing off; shift up at that point.

The KX100 with a stock pipe is pretty linear as far as smokers go. It doesn't really have a lot of "hit" anywhere in the curve. It just kind of builds up until it signs off. Very easy to ride stock, but may not have the excitement you may be hearing on those other bikes.

It is pretty easy to get a more aggressive engine characteristic out of it, but if you are racing harescrambles and doing well, a more aggressive package may actually be a step backwards.

You just change the power band out, its inside the case, near the crank on the pipe side. Takes about 15-20 minutes.

Changing out the stock muffler bearings for aftermarket ones (Pro Circuit has good ones) helps a bunch too. Just go to your local shop and ask the parts guy.

When I was building houses, we’d tell the new guy we cut a few boards too short, and send him to the hardware store for a Stanley board stretcher…

I used to try pulling those get me wood stretcher, copper stretcher, etc pranks until this one time we were installing metal ductwork, training a couple of new guys and I tried sending one of them to the truck to get my duct stretcher and had to go get it myself because they thought I was full of shit, hahaha

You need a left handed screwdriver to get the powerband out, it can be pretty tricky. I’ve also used a sky hook before for leverage if it’s extra sticky

I didn't think KX 100s had powerbands unless you bought one from the aftermarket.

Ah the memories..
I remember being a kid and going from a z50 to a KX60 and being almost scared of how much hit it had up too..
Sad kids won’t go through that anymore..

Watch videos. 65's 80's 125's. More to the point, listen. You'll get a memory of what making a 2 stroke go fast sounds like. Get on the dirt and rev it to the moon like the fast 2 strokes guys on the videos. Flat changes, tiny hits of the clutch.

BTW, there's a guy called James Stewart. Watch and listen to anything he did on a two stroke. Danger Boy Deegan, Adam Cianciarulo.

I've seen some people try to bump start a chop saw, go look for ID 10T welding rod, and then see if they can break the record for most welding rod bent over the back of the neck.

Yes, like flipping a switch the KX60 would tear ass through the woods with 6yo me hanging on for dear life.

To the OP, what you're describing is the nature of a 2 stroke mx engine. It'll take some learning and adjustment. Also, you might get more serious replies if you include a pic of the new bike with the question.
