Dungey Comeback possible?

Edited Date/Time 10/20/2021 1:23am
last year he was trying to put funding together to race supercross but with the virus and what not he was not able to, do you think he could possibly come back from retirement this year?? anyone close to him know if he has the drive and hunger to race still?

He said in the Whiskey Throttle episode that if it didn't happen for the money he wanted last year, then it wasn't meant to be and he would move on to the next thing.

Have a look at the archives and see where you think he fits. We know he'd have lost some speed, but if he still has his fitness and low-risk-assessment consistency, then I think 5-8 in points would have been doable last year.

With rate of attrition, and he did well, top 5. Possibly podium.

I picture the conversation going like this:

-Dungey - I'm ready to come back. Go ahead and reinstate me at the $2mil/year I used to make.

-Manufacturers - We have bikes/parts and $250K/year for you....

-Dungey - I'll stay at home with my beautiful wife and baby.

Wait until stews 250 eligibility renews. It’s game over. I’ll be willing to bet that’s what rd is waiting for

Seeing as we're spit-balling dreams here: I think Triumph should hire him if they're serious about launching their bike within a year or two. Dungey still has the massive relevancy and star power to generate huge interest, people would surely tune in and go to races to get a look at the legend coming back and riding an all new machine. He could easily be an ambassador doing promo tents with the bike at all the races too, along with other media stuff. Nobody would blame mid-pack results on the bike because Ryan could easily blame himself and say he's just not quite up to speed. He's even got the experience of working through significant design changes from his early days with KTM. All upside with very little risk for all parties.

If the right opportunity opened up he would be all over it. He didn’t sound completely resolved about it when he was in DMXS. I don’t see anyone else with his consistency. Put him on an aluminum frame bike and he’s back to consistent podiums and top 5s.

Remember how fast RV2 was in his day? Also, remember his 'out of retirement' performance at MEC..

Didn't he get 10th? I didn't think it was too bad for a one off.
