When I first saw that bike, I thought, "Good for HD. They are aiming at the right market."

Older dudes, looking for dirt road adventure, who buy American, are going to eat that thing up. They'll sell every one they make.

Totally agree. When talking about HD, you have to grade on a curve.

I re read my first post and didn't make it clear that its still not a great bike. I just didn't want to bash HD, who knows, maybe someday they will see the light.
lol, we don't have to grade HD on a curve though. I feel like this is longstanding mindset of the HD loyalist that never want to look outside the HD brand for better bikes for less money. At the end of the day, HD is competing for market share against other OEMs. That means they get compared to their competition, not internally to the HD "benchmark" but HD marketing latches onto these new model features and blasts them as "all new, ground-breaking, advancement, (insert any other marketing buzzword here)" as-if they are creating new technologies and features that no OEM has done before.

When in fact, there is no technology/feature on the PanAmerica that hasn't been offered in some form from one of the other OEM's in prior years. Active suspension has been around since 2010 and in production since 2013. Their console screen and UX has *finally* caught up to what all the other OEMs have been using for years now.
The technology features that you see on the PanAmerica have been on Ducati, Augusta, BMW sport models for almost 10 YEARS now.

I am somewhat impressed by the new 1250 Revolution Max engine, as I think it's a big step in the right direction for HD in terms of a "modern" performance engine, but they have BIG competitors in the Ducati DVT 1262, BMW R1250, KTM 1301R, and even the CRF1100L. We will have to see how the engine performs in the shootouts.

I know it sounds crazy; but, most MX-folk are waaaay off on this. Harley nailed down the ADV segment with this bike. Those pics of a full-tilt 1250 ADV bike on an MX track make that point, also.

The Showa suspension on that bike is the next level in suspension components.

Someone said it "costs more than a KTM"? KTM no-long males a bike in that segment (over 1000 cc)...well, they don't have a current model avail, that is. If they ever offer a big bike with active suspension and all capabilities of this thing? it will cost more.

The comparable bike(s)? Only the BMW 1250 is directly comparable and costs more...especially when you attempt to equip it as well as the HD.

The new Harley, to me, is pretty damn ugly; but...it works. Took it thru nasty whooped out trails beaten up by SxSs, Jeeps and Raptors out at Randsburg. The bike pulled it off. It was amazing.

The Harley is cool, hell I wish I had the money and space for one.
But KTM does make a competitor. The 1290r just isn't being sold in the US for 2021. Itll be back in 2022. However it is sold elsewhere. With more HP, and about 100lbs less weight. Sure it aint got the fancy lowering suspension but is it worth the extra weight?
I got the little baby version. The 890 "s"
While it dont compete with the Harley on a spec sheet. I bet it does in sales. It's a price, and weight I can justify. With the capability I expect. I hope Harley builds some little siblings to the bike.

Best adventure bike out there, we have never had one sit on our sales floor, as they are all pre sold months in advance.

Looks about as completive as they did the first time. Laughing
Go research the history of that bike you are dogging and get back to me.

Hint: KTM has a little Harley DNA.

I ride my dyna almost everyday. However, I'd no sooner ride one of their dirt bikes, than I'd fly in one of their airplanes.

It looks like they’ve entered the birth control market. Even if you manage to ride that thing off road without losing your ability to reproduce you’ll still have to get over the obstacle of convincing anyone of the opposite sex to come near you after finding out you own one.

Based on the ttitle I clicked on this thread. That bike has nothing to do with the MX game. Actually less than nothing. I wouldn’t want that bike even if they gave them away for free.

There’s a Pan America test on youtube where the guy actually took the bike offroad. First bit of air and it snapped a footpeg. How long has it been since that was a real concern on a new bike? 1970s?

For the record, the guy in the original pics on the MX track getting air did not snap any pegs. The bike performed just fine, better than expected. So I guess it's batting at least .500
