So I have a chain wax/lube question. Back in the 2000s chain wax would leave a nice white coating to help show coverage. Does anyone make a product like that anymore?

Bel Ray and still made today but probably better suited for road bikes than dirt bikes because the last I remember, it doesn't just wash off easily. I haven't used Bel Ray in years so maybe others who use it can chime in.

This was a really good test of different chain lubes.

That Fortnine Channel is crazy good. Loved their series on Harleys. They videos are far and few between but they put so much work into them and it’s shows.

Yeah it's the belray, it's like mixing toothpaste with wood glue as far as consistency. Doesn't fling. Turns into a sugar cookie quickly though.

I have used most all of them and I find that the Honda Pro Oils with the moly in it is the best, IMO but it's like premix.....The best two choices are yours and mine.

I love that Bel-Ray Super Clean. It's the white stuff you are referring to. It dries and doesn't fling off, so you never have to clean oily spots from the left side of your bike, your boots, etc...
Spectro makes a version of it, too, although I don't know their trade name.

I'm not a fan of the Maxima wax.

I have been using Torco lube for years. Goes on white and no flinging.

Same, love it! Just ordered a couple cans of it last week. I believe I used much less too because you can actually see where you applied it or not. Other times I would just hold it wide open and spin it for 30 seconds, which I was probably applying way too much.

Every time I watch that video I think, “Am I the only one who doesn’t run an oring chain?”

I literally use Maxima chain wax for everything I lube. Stuff works incredibly well. Door hinges, garage doors, dirt bike chains, MTB chains. Hell I even use it to lube my damn luggage wheels (its pathetic that I travel so much I have to lube the wheels on my $600 Tumi travel bag/luggage...)

Bel Ray, as others have said, It’s definitely visible when applied, but it also definitely attracts dirt like a mf

There’s a trend in cycling right now with people using solid wax on their chain. Seems everyone has some special recipe but it’s usually a mix of paraffin wax and gear oil in a crock pot. Submerge the chain overnight and then pull it out to solidify. I’m not sure the paraffin would stay put once the bike gets hot, but it’s a pretty cool idea and I’d like to try it sometime.

I’ve been pondering this for a while. I’ve been cycling for years and only use paraffin. Gearsets and derailers stay super clean and chains go forever without retreating them. I’m a fair weather biker though so not sure how constant bike washing ala mx bike would fair.

Chain stays nice and clean with Maxima chain wax. I always felt like using a lube that attracts dirt is doing more harm than good. It doesn’t bother me that it’s not visible. I just spray on the inside of the chain while spinning the back wheel until it seems about right - not too much and not to little. 🤣

Interesting results but I’m fairly certain that guy has people bound and gagged in his basement

We used to use Duckhams in the early to mid 80's. Can still smell it today

Try the Honda chain lube with moly.

It goes on wet, dries fairly fast to a film and doesn't collect dust or sand.
My chains and sprockets have lasted longer since I switched to it and it doesn't make a mess.

I swear I read on here or Thumpertalk of a guy who takes his kids chains off every weekend and cleans them and then soaks them in gear oil or motoroil overnight. IMO it's way overkill. II would assume soaking metal does nothing lol

It works great in mud for clipless bicycle pedals. I spray it on the pedal & the cleats.

I just use wd-40 and I get 120 hours out of a decent chain. I'm sure I could use a better lube and get a few more hours, but I'm good with 120, besides the sprockets are wore out by then anyway.
