It amazes me how little respect Dylan and DV get. Dylan comes to the US and in the span of 4.5 seasons he has back to back SX titles, an MX title, and now is racing, winning, and competing for a 450 title. Yet, the media is silent. It’s quite terrible journalism to be honest. I watch the telecast and GL is the only one that praises what Dylan is doing. Everyone else just trips over themselves about Kenny and Jett. Maybe if Dylan wins this championship they will all finally pay some respect. But, in the end it doesn’t really matter what the media thinks nor the fans, it’s all about the hardware you end up with, the respect from your peers, and the number in the bank account.

I think its just me, but Chase Sexton is going to be a force to be reckoned with. in the 2nd moto at fox raceway, he crashed on the first corner, and was close to dead last, but still finished in the top ten (10th place but still top 10) i think he will be great this year. anyone else feel the same???

Not taking anything away from his ride but he looked over the edge a few times and I thought it would bite him. To his credit it did not.

Could you "make" any reasonably skilled rider a champion or do you need to start with special to build great? Not being an a$$hole, just curious since I train my 14 year old, and he's not "special". So that means it will take more effort and discipline from him to raise his level. Or any of us for that matter.

I know Dylan is 100% all in with your program, but us mortals have jobs and school etc etc so going all in on moto isn't often an option. Even of those that do with live-at training facilities the success rate is low. I think you have to start with "special" to achieve great. Maybe I just answered my own question. Smile

Yep Dylan is super fun to watch ride, he is aggresive and relentless! To call him a rookie is almost an insult though, yeah i get it, its his first year on a 450, same token isn't he about 26 years old? If JeremyMartian ever gets to 450s i would not consider him a rookie either, but thats just my opinion. Congrats to Dylan and his success.

DV, I grew up watching you ride at Chateauneuf, Delta Route, Beaucaire, Pernes, Bercy, etc…
Your commitment to win made me love the sport. Since you retired, I’ve always enjoyed you sharing your Point of view, not because I agree or disagree, but because your judgement is fundamentally facts / science oriented. I think we are very lucky to have you find in Dylan the perfect experiment of your knowledge. One has got to be blind to not see Dylan’s evolution throughout the years. He got the willingness to win from the early hours, but was riding on the edge and balls out. He looks so much more in control today, but with the exact same commitment to go for it. The Pirelli ad used to say : “sans maîtrise la puissance n’est rien”. There you go… As far as being treated like a clown, you’re on the smart side of those things and it’s so funny how good you are at playing with it. Meaning you chose the freedom to speak your mind, no matter who, when and where. This comes at a price. I remember a few years back when you said you wished one day you would have a rider to fully commit and embrace your program. Glad you had it, glad we could observe it. You made me a sport enthusiast, and for that many thanks.

Agree. I think he will win a 450 title in the few years.

I think you’ve selective hearing them because I’ve heard a ton of praise for Ferrandis on the telecasts and in other media.

It also shows how different the SX & Outdoors are as disciplines. Was there ever a real doubt that Dylan would “come out of his shell” in the outdoors on the 450 with his GP background vs the limitations of the arena tracks? I believe DV and Ferrandis make a great team, and I certainly see him on the top spot in more than a few races this year. Next year, he & Tomac are going to shock the shit out of a lot who still call the Yamaha a “blue pig”.

There were many rounds of SX this year where in the main DF was the fastest on the track coming from way back. The difference is he gets about double the time to keep charging in Moto and the tracks actually allow places to pass.

He can start 14th in a Moto and spend the full 35 minutes on the gas. I don’t think anyone can come through the pack like he can consistently. We are talking about one of the most stacked top 10s of all time and Dylan carved them all up in Moto 2 besides Kenny.

He can keep doing this every Moto too. It’ll be hard to see him finish worse than 5th without injury or mechanical failure. Ken has looked good but I’m not sure he can go all season like he used to yet come the July and August heat.

It’s going to be a fun summer watching it all go down.

Actually and originally, Steve Matthes was vocal against Star Racing about hiring some euro guy (Dylan) instead of US talent for the 250 class. I remember sending him messages at the time, to alert him that this guy had held off Herlings and just took a moto from him in Italy and that I doubted any Loretta Lynn's kid could do stuff like that ! The good thing about Steve is that he is able to remind of this attitude he had and openly admitted on his shows how wrong he was. IMO, the DF14/DV12 combo is great and will produce (already is) serious dammage on the MX scene. This will give him the confidence he was never able to build up during the SX season. The old guard's current failure opens a wide door for him. 30 years after JMB we might have a serious French contender for a title in the big class (DV & Tortelli were legit contenders but never succeeded), it's huge.

It's no surprise to be honest, I watched this guy battle Herlings for a few seasons and got some wins on him but most of the time he got his ass handed to him but I think those loses drove him to be the motivated rider he is today.

His last years 250 performance was amazing also.

I will never respect Matthes, he will never give most of the Euro riders respect he is close minded and can't see beyond Bike and rider talent and carries on like a self righteous man child.

Hes been alot better this season though. Atleast for outdoors (sx starts were horrible). Hes been top 5 50% of the starts or something like that?

Thankfully, the US system gave him (and Zach - and others) the chance to refine his craft, make good money while doing so, and Not get thrown to the Lions (or, simply out of the GPs) that Luongo The Drongo so thinks is a great idea, before going to 450s.

Thank goodness DC and Co have not been influenced by that f**kwits 'ideas'.

Dylan, notably, seemed to have little time for Luongo and Youthstream (now, InFront) and wanted to get the hell away from him / them, as soon as he could.

I've picked up on some people bleating about the decade (at least?) age difference between JL and JM, but I think it's great to see. It's such a bummer that he, and Troll, are hit by injuries, again.

I hear a lot of people talking about his fitness. I just watched Swaps "How was your weekend?" DF is actually riding a stationary bike in his interview. After two 35min motos he's riding a stationary bike. Wow
