What does a top pro cost?

In terms of team salary alone, not all the extras? What does a fairly consistent top 5 guy cost?

I have only a vague idea, but I would guess it's on the order of one million or less. Some guys would command the $1M, others are more like $100,000. (There would be win and championship bonuses added to that base salary, which are somewhere around $100K for a win and $1M for a championship.)

Anyone have recent contract knowledge? I'd like to see how close I am.

Depends on the class. 250s id say get around 100k base pay if there top 5 nationally(not regionally). 450 are probably closer to 200-250k base.

The answer, whatever level, is 'all you have and more'.

So many variables in this type of assumption, but general range for a factory guy who is capable of winning a championship looks like this:

OEM - $250K - $500K+ (Race win/Championship bonus - $100K - $1M)
Gear - $400K - $1M+ (Race win/Championship bonus - $10K - $100K)
Helmet - $100K-$250K (Race win/Championship bonus - $10K - $50K)
Goggles - $50K - $200K (Race win/Championship bonus - $5K - $25K)
Boots $50K - $100K (Race win/Championship bonus - $5K - $25K)

Keep in mind - most dealers are done over a 2-3 year period. SO a gear deal could be $2.2M over three years, etc.

Top 5 is quite a spread. If I had to guess, the 1st place guy in the series (Roczen), and the 5th place guy in the series (Stewart), probably have almost the same base salary give or take a zero.

Lmao - so we have now gone from “what are their salaries” to “how much would they cost” - the answer will be the same as always.....nothing. MX racers salaries are filed with the UFO sightings.

They cost zillions, in some cases (not the ET KR CW etc) the salay is just a fraction of all the costs of having them there racing

We weren't paying those numbers when I worked for a fairly big goggle company in 09-10.

A few years back I read a story about Blake Baggett and he stated that his base salary was less that what he had paid Aldon Baker for his training. Later in the story it was stated that Aldon Baker charged his about $60,000. So I would have to say somewhere around that figure plus all the extra bonus dollars.

Bagget was paying Aldon when he was on PC though wasnt he? PC notoriously dont pay well, especially back in the Bagget days. The bike was that good they didnt need to.

I'm sure Baggets salary far exceeded 60k in the years following that though

Tomacs base is in the neighborhood of 1.3.

Mookie is in the neighborhood of 150.

Everybody in the top ten is in between that,

I know a 15-20 place guy who averages 75k.

Roczen was making a pile until he re signed.

Did Kenny go for the lower salary, higher win/championship bonus, or did Honda start to lose a little faith after the injuries/illness?

Honda likes him but they weren’t going to continue paying him a big salary, they offered lower salary, not sure about bonus.

The base salary is not as good as you may think, but the real money comes from bonus and other incentives and the original question was on base salary? 250 and 450 rides are all paid differently and have very different contracts. A lot of these contracts pay extra for qualifing, heat races, main events and overalls.

I do remember hearing/reading somewhere that PC's base salary used to be 50k when they were by far the most dominant team.

Use to be, not so much anymore. His highest guy is making 350k. He has to pay guys good or they will move on.

After all the super-secret info that I read in here...

THIS was the closest to a "legitimate answer".
