Just like last year, his poor starts get him hung up behind the smartop Hondas and dicks around for too many laps before passing them. He was stuck behind Hill and Friese often last year.

Nothing wrong with Tomac, he’s just not a consistently good starter and it goes to show just how deep the talent pool is at the moment.
The track made it hard for many riders; I mean you’ve got 14 riders qualifying within a second and a track that was hard to pass on, what do you expect?
Tomac made it harder on himself though by getting into it with Friese.

Same shit, new year. He cannot get a jump out of the gate, then looks like he’s not willing to commit to leave it on into the first turn. You can’t have come from behind rides with this many sharks in the water. Amazing he can’t get off the gate in all these years of consistent start problems.

Eli never looks good first race of the year. One lined track, top 12 racers fastest laps were within 2 second of each other. Bad start on a track that says "dude you're screwed" if you don't get a decent start. Can't win the championship at the first race of the year, but you can lose it. Honestly, I didn't think he looked that bad, he just didn't look all that good either.

All that said, I thought Webb looked worse, he just didn't crash twice like Eli did.

People need to relax, both Webb and Tomac are contenders. 16 rounds left to go.

I can't say enough how nice it is to have SX racing back, with fans, in a venue that's not SLC (no offense to SLC). Feels like one slice of life is slowly getting back to normal.

He cut in pretty good in the first turn after a bad jump off the gate. Thought he came out in about 8th but seemed to get bumped back pretty fast. Didn’t seem to be able to get ina groove. Racetrack never looks like a practice track!

I'm probably one of the biggest Tomac defenders on here but that was a pretty bad performance if he has any plans to defend the title. I also wasn't a fan of the way he seemed to try to take Friese out after sliding out all on his own when he was trying to pass him originally. They only showed the end of the incident so maybe that's not what happened but it sure seemed like it.
