I might be crazy, but if the rumors going around are true that Baggett is retiring due to his wrist injury not healing properly, I am going to call that Ferrandis will pick up the #4 (assuming it doesn't get taken by the next 250 / 450 mx champs).

He ran the #4 while he was in the MXGP series & I think that's why he elected to not pick up the #5 or #8 this year. I think since 14 is his career number, he can only change it one time, so I'd imagine he's only going to change that for the #4.

Just my thoughts Smile

I am not sure it works that way, in my mind the rider can only chose a single digit number the year they earned it, not 1 or 2 years later. If someone knows, please confirm Wink

Dylan is eligible for a single digit number, so if the one he wants is already taken, he can have it, but only when the current rider that runs it retires/forfeits it back to the AMA or doesn't score 25 points in a year.

Assuming he wanted number 4, he'll have to run the 14 until 4 becomes available. That or change his mind for a different number.

Currently the only rider that changed career numbers is Savatgy. He originally took 37 but decided to switch to the 17.

IMO, Dylan should've picked 8 and tried to make it his own.

Bubba switching to 7 for 2006 and he didn't win any titles in 2005

If Baggett does retire, the number wouldn't be available until 2023, unless Baggett surrenders the number.

I figured he would have taken the single digit number, but to each their own I guess. I agree, he should have taken the number 8!

Correct me if I am wrong, but if Baggett were to retire prior to the start of SX ( I am going out on a limb here since RMATV was announced without Baggett & assuming he just hangs it up due to wrist injury). The number would be vacated at the end of this season & eligible for selection in 2022?

You're only a year and another championship away from that being a possibility.

When will 22 become available? I would be stoked to see Jett get it.

My guess, 2023. Reed would need to score 25 points in 2021 in order to keep it. That said, he can also send a letter to the AMA stating he had an injury that prevented him to line up.

I don't remember the reason, but Stewart sent a letter in to keep the 7 and we never saw him line up again.

Reed mentioned that he would like to make a main event at 40 and he turns 40 in March of 2022. I personally don't see him trying to make a main event at 40 on anything other than a 22 bike.

If that happens and he somehow scores 25 points, the 22 wouldn't be available until 2024 unless he decides to release it back to the AMA for 2023.

He won the 250 outdoor national championship. That makes him eligible for a single digit number.

Finish top 10 in combined 450 and 250 points, and you're eligible to pick a 2 digit career number. 250 SX regional title winners can also choose a 2 digit career number.

Webb, Tomac, Baggett, Martin, Plessinger, and Cianciarulo all earned their single digit career number by winning the 250 outdoor outdoor national championship.

He told me he doesn’t care about a number because it’s just that : a number.

Dylan rode with this number his entire 85 carreer and a little further after . At that time I thought he was a Reed fan but in fact he was a Bubba fan.

I thought you lost your career number after 2 consecutive years of not earning points. So, if Baggett retires and doesn't race 2021 or 2022, then the number would become available.
