Looks like he had plenty of time to reenter the track before the banners started at the corner. He did go on to win the moto so this kind of thing is gonna get looked at closer than some kid finishing midpack.

I can't argue that point, and I agree it should be looked at. What I don't agree with is the guys calling "cheater" on this one. Heat of the moment, full gate, pressure on, hard to make the absolute best decision.
As some have mentioned, top level pro riders have handled similar situations much worse.
He didn't make the best decision, but he also didn't keep it pinned. You can tell he backed off.
I think he should have entered more mid-pack, definitely. But man, calling this straight up cheating is off the mark to me.

Didn’t he do something similar at Loretta’s years ago? In the sand section?

I just wonder why you didnt start this thread under you other Vital account Wink
Asking a question is stirring the shit? Probably because this is my only vital account.

I'm not sure like I said I heard. I started an account to see if anyone had any answers. Didn't know you couldn't post questions to vital. I should of known better than to post to vital where everyone's going to cry and attack everyone over a question.

Where am I bashing the kid? I asked how he got away with cutting the track?
When you start a thread with this line...

"How did he get away with cutting the track"

Then you follow with this...

"He never let off it was like it was his chosen line"

Then you continue with this comment...

"From what I've heard he was protested and it was seen before the protests. The ama wanted to dock him and the promoter advised them not to"

You are not bashing him, you are not a hater... I get that

But let's be honest you sound salty, thats all.

Definitely not cheating.

I wish this kind of thing on starts was cracked down on in pro races. Motogp has a new long lap penalty for minor race infractions where the rider has to ride around the outside of a turn that is marked and adds maybe 2 or 3 seconds to his lap. Obviously amateur races are not the place for that kind of thing but Supercross could implement it with a chicane on the start straight or something similar.

Finally watched the video. Two things:

1. He cut the track.

2. He was the fastest guy in the class.

In the end, I'd bet the factories couldn't care less if he won, really. It looks good for a print ad, but showing he's the fastest kid sets him up for a few years from now.

This kid, I can tell you with certainty, is only making 1 less digit per year. He's a factory rider just like the other guys, and there's no excuse for this. I race against him man, and I hate this kid. There are better youth riders but he gets all the hype. Kids like Daxton Bennick and Casey Cochran deserve some love too. He's been racing around 10 years now, as have I, and as a lower ranking amature if I know not to cut the track, he should.

Lol....not a great showing for young Deegan. Hope all these Mini O's shenanigans are touched on in their next "We're Awesome at Parenting" feature video.

This shit has been happening for years, who cares?

Amateur motocross history is riddled with cheating, scandals, take outs, mini dad fights, course cutting, big bores, moms earning rides for kids the old fashioned way, wrong kid getting the hype, promoters playing favorites.... blah....blah....blah....blah....etc. etc. etc.

The cream always rises to the top of the pro ranks regardless of hype or any other BS. In a few years time we will know if young Deegan is the real deal or not. Patience.

You guy need to review the video closer. It clearly wasn’t on purpose, no one would ever be bold enough to do that on purpose. It occurred, now the only argument is whether he slowed down enough to justify reentering in the position that he did. He got a good jump, put his body weight over that back wheel for more traction and drive. When he did that his front wheel was slightly elevated and the rut through him off balance. He slowed slightly, even had to pivot around the camera man. At best he maintained speed, but didn’t accelerate heavily until reentering the track. He got a better start then he should have, but purely an accident.
It looked like he slowed for at least two reasons: One to miss the cameraman and two, that path forced him to make an even tighter left turn.

You can clearly see he's off balance, the moment be clears the rut is when he cut left. Anyone that's ridden a rutted mx track can relate; the end result is exasperated by the smaller supermini tire size.

The amount of down votes when anyone points out that he did not intentionally cut left is astounding.

He obviously made a mistake or hit a rut or a rock, but watch the video and the diversion left was not intentional or planned. If you don't see it, watch it again. If you don't see it, watch it again.

Now the non-adrenaline filled keyboardist would say that he could have shut off and stayed on the track. I do too. That would have been the fair thing to do. But in the moment, he rode (not raced) up the inside and only got on the gas "a little" before re-entering the track.

Still, making a mistake on the start should not justify coming out of turn 1 in 3rd. He was arguably anywhere from 3rd to 20th when leaving the track. To me, he gained an advantage and some penalty was in order.

Shame on whomever didn't have the balls to do it. I like Haiden and look forward to see how his career unfolds and being docked 5 positions or 30 seconds for the unfair advantage he gained isn't gonna change his future.

Even if true, how do you fault the kid for that? He’s not the promoter, he’s just a kid racing a dirt bike and gets shit on because the AMA and the promoters didn’t dock him. Even if his father is somehow behind it, again, how do you hate on a kid for these things. Blows my mind.

I’m curious who protested the action?

There are specific rules and penalties for track cutting in the first corner.

If and when a protest is made.

Agreed, that was why I asked.

Was it a rider, or a dad?
Were they in that moto?
Did they enter the protest in time?

Where did he hate on Haiden? He simply showed that he cut the most important turn of the track and benefitted from it, then he didn't get penalized.

Why are you blowing this out of proportion?

You guys are hilarious trying to analyze the rationale of a 13 year old at an amateur motocross race.
Kid was fuckin pinning it and forgot to let off, not a reflection of his character. Probably feels bad about it but you wouldn’t know and nor would I. Food for thought.

I'm wondering why the promoter advised them not to? Because I also heard that another rider got docked for the same thing.

It’s more like you started a thread to make an accusation and then continue with a couple of “I heards” to continue to stir the pot...almost like you had some sort of agenda or something.....your posting is just a bit fishy...

Penalize him as any rider should be, but I seriously doubt he did that on purpose. One of the fastest little dudes out there, and he can win without trying to cheat. It didn't look intentional at all. I like the Deegan's and hope he has a bright future in the sport.

Thread went about as well as expected. Definitely should have been docked but don’t think he did it on purpose. The Deegan kids are all super talented.

So after this "incident", did the promoter or referee take the effort to block this "legal" line? Maybe put a few hay bales around the area that the photographer was standing. If not then the door is open for anyone to "accidentally" run off the track again.
