Maybe its you that doesn't have enough time on your hands, ever thought about that? Tongue

One thing is for certain, it seems like Varner could benefit from some better time management!

No....i think we are just a tight knit motocross group looking out for each other. Don't F us because we have each other's back.

Hey there, I’m wondering if anyone in So-Cal could help me out here. I’m from Canada and I sent Varner 3 cylinders/heads a few months ago along with the money upfront to do the work (big mistake I know), and now I can’t get a hold of him and with everything going on in our world I just want my engine parts back. I’ve been trying him for weeks and can’t get a hold of him. I have gotten two or three short responses via text that states I’ll have them soon, but ‘soon’ started a couple months ago. I really don’t know what to do. Does anyone know if he’s actually around and if this is a common issue? I was told 20 day turn around on these parts and he’s honestly been a real asshole to deal with. I wish I could just go there myself and deal with it in person. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Did you get your CR cylinder back?

After talking with Varner about the situation, might be better for the persons involved to keep it between themselves. Old guys get stubborn in some conditions. Still trying to help out when I talk with him.

So basically if anyone goes public about how he has screwed them he's gonna screw them more? Pretty sad that this is what it has come to with someone I would consider a legend in this industry.

This thread is a 14 page advertisement for any 2 stroke builder in the world besides Varner and at this point that is what he deserves if his attitude is as you said.

Even crazier is that he has the nerve to bullshit so many people then still show up all over BroCal to help out his buddies and dudes connected to the "scene".

Exactly. Simple, do the work you were paid for and return it to the customer.
Any update?

So here’s the update. Two weeks ago I finally, FINALLY, got my CR125 Cylinder, Head and Carb back. I went on a road trip the past 10 days so I haven’t really thought about posting about it until I got back today.

Here’s a twist to the whole story. I originally talked to Varner about doing a big bore with this CR125 and he convinced me 134cc’s was the way to go. That’s what I was expecting to receive. What I got was not a 134cc bored cylinder or piston, I got a 144cc. Not to mention, the piston had Eric Gorr etching on it. Now I haven’t talked with Varner since he sent me my tracking number for this package nor do I really want to ever again now this nightmare is over, but it really makes me curious if he actually did the work or if it’s an Eric Gorr cylinder/piston. I would honestly assume he just got the piston from him. But nonetheless, I was definitely not expecting to get a 144cc set up when he originally talked it down so bad and said the 134cc was the way to go. Either way, I’ll just run it and I can officially say my Varner days are over.

I took a quick photo of the package when it arrived, I’ll take more when I’m back off work shift and show the work that was done.

Eric started the whole 144 thing several decades ago, and over the years has refined the piston designs that other tuners can use for their big bore kits.

If you had gone 134, it would have probably been an off the shelf 2mm bigger piston from wiseco.

You might need to clearance your cases to fit the piston.

144s are great bikes and will rev to the moon if ported property. Them not revving a bit of a myth from years ago when there was a 139 kit with a really expensive proprietary piston a few people wanted to market and hype.

He said I'd have tracking number last week. Nothing. The usual.

Then I texted him. He asked who is this? That he'd had phone damage and lost all his contacts.

Sounds like Mr. Varner may have some personal issues.

Correct-- I have had several 144's done by Eric, and they run ridiculously well, so EG definitely has that part down .

Also-- just got my 2008 RM250 top end back from Tom Morgan. Im a 61 yo fast intermediate/slow Expert but wanted the "snappy hit " taken away with the power spread out in a more easy to use fashion. He did head mods, port work and did a 265cc kit ----and it was 17 days from ship out to back to my office.

I feel relieved for you and happy riding for the future, it was a truly traumatic long time.

I have been in contact with Terry about the 607 stuff. Still trying to help out that one. In conversation, Terry mentioned had had been developing the 144 and it was running quite well. Maybe he thought the 144 was better for you now that it is more refined?

That "lost all my contacts" is the modern day version of "The checks in the mail " LMAO. Such bullshit.

cmotodad--- My guess is Varner bought the entire 144 kit from Eric, since EG has them on stock and swaps out when you send him the core pieces. And if that's the case, at least Kowalczyk got his top end back and is going to love it, since I have never ridden a Gorr 144 that I wasn't impressed with.

We can all guess but none will know the facts about the 144 kit. It's great that he has it back and hopefully he is extremely happy with it.

I run a standard +2mm Yamaha YZ125/144 piston in my Gore 96 CR144. The original part number he spec'd was discontinued but I just use a specific Cometic base gasket & it rips............

Just had another one built by Millenium for a friend & it uses same piston. It took about 4 weeks total including shipping & the work looks excellent. Only issue was they sent incorrect gaskets but immediately took responsibility and sent out a new kit...We will see how it runs soon...

Now this will be a 30 page thread! WOW so over a year you have been waiting! somebody please help this guy out and go over there to get his engine back. Regardless of how awkward it would be I'd honestly stop by his place and ask for your parts back if I lived remotely close to him.

This fuckin guy is too much. If I’d sent an engine and money to him and had been waiting for over a year, my next step in the process would be onto an airliner.

Fuuuuck I’m soooo glad I didn’t send my motor there. At least those of us seeing this thread know better. Hopefully, this thread pops up when others are looking for reviews on him. The op should add the key word “review” to the title and it will pop up.

Yea he's just been real busy for the last 15 months. He had some health issues going on two years ago. That doesn't excuse taking money and not providing the product or the return and refunds. Thats called stealing.

I had a fellow member here reach out to me as I have known Terry for a while. With that said, It disappoints me what he has done.

I can't help much other than (I'm in S/Africa) the text I sent him asking that he communicate with you guys and to expidite those motors etc.

The fact is that he is getting old and probably has slowed down with the health issues and should be taking on less work in order to get said work shipped back on time.

Disappointing and unethical.
