Ignore the shootouts. It’s a fantastic bike. Power is very smooth and easy to control, cornering is excellent and you won’t feel the weight that it has over other bikes while you’re riding it. As you described yourself just getting back into things, I think it’s the perfect bike at that price. I can put in tons of laps with my buddy’s 18 rmz450 and it never feels like it wants to kill me. I’ve never seen that bike take more than two kicks to start. Great bike!

The rear shock from an rmz250 bolts right up and is a kyb shock if the bfrc reviews scare you, you can replace it entirely for $400 or so.

4500 and low hours is a good deal!

I have an opportunity to buy a 2019 RMZ 450 with 32 hours on it for $4500. The bike is in immaculate condition and needs nothing except a rider. I’ve read all the reviews and watched the 450 shootouts and they make it out to be a pig that came over on the Mayflower. I’ve had a 15 year layoff from riding/racing and I’m sure this bike is far better than my skill level. Seems like an inexpensive way to at least get my feet wet again.

What do you guys think?

I bought a 2018 RMZ 450 earlier this spring. It had 24 hrs, lots of extra’s and was well taken care of. I paid $4200 and it’s the best bike I have owned and I previously had 2016.5 FE 450, ‘17 FC 350 and a ‘18 FC 450 all with CV forks. Go for it.

The kx450f's are literally the only chassis i feel comfortable on. I had a '12 RMZ450 way back until 2016 and loved it, but still felt cramped. Went to a '16 yz450f for a year-ish. Then to a '15 kx450f. Now building up a 2018 kx450f.

The Kawi is the only thing I feel I can move around freely on and grip properly. i have a rule about buying bikes... if I don't feel comfortable the instant i sit on it, i walk away. No point in putting money into something and fighting an uphill battle from the start.

I'd love to go back to an RMZ or KTM, but they just just don't feel right to me between the legs after giving the Kxf some saddle time.

Thanks for the insight, at 6’4” I’m close to you and feeling huge on any bike. Wanted some big guy perspective on the RMZ, as I’d really like to swing a leg over one again. My buddy has a 18 KXF so I’ll probably turn some laps on it this weekend and see how it feels.

I havent done any “tall person” mods to my 20 YZF other than turn the bar mounts to the furthest forward position, trying to get comfortable before throwing more parts at it like taller bars and lower/back pegs. I’m certainly not uncomfortable on it, just feel big still.
