Ever since I stopped consistently riding when I go back to the track, around lap 2 or 3 I get blurry vision and objects are not crystal clear. I wear contacts, but have since I was a kid, and never had a problem. I dont know if it's mentally tired on lap 2, blood flow, or something else. Ever had this happen?
I thought I was going blind...turns out all the glands in my eyelids (that's where the lube for your eyeballs is produced) were clogged. It's taken about three years to get things flowing again. Dry eyes is a symptom. Just my .02.
Does it only happen when you ride?
Could be low blood sugar or low blood pressure. Are you diabetic? Might want to get checked.

One thing my eye doctor had me do for a similar off-the-bike issue years ago (dry eyes, scratchy feeling) was to take Johnson’s baby shampoo and rub my eyelids (right at the root of the eyelashes) with it in the shower every morning, then rinse. It helped a ton.
Other issues:
-Older contacts
-contacts in too long prior to riding (I started wearing my glasses on those early start days driving to the track, then switch to contacts)
-eye drops prior to each time on the bike
-making sure I blink (it’s easy in MX to tighten up so much that you almost forget to blink and/or breathe naturally, and this gets worse after a long time off the bike).
Also, in my recent eye exams, the Dr. let me try some different lenses to get a good fit and some were MUCH more comfortable than others. See if you can test some.
Interesting!! Is the idea that crud gets held in the lashes?
There was much more to the explanation, but as they say...
“The first three things to go with age are sight, hearing, and I can’t remember the other one...” lol
But I have naturally watery eyes. Over active tear ducts maybe? I notice like breathing, I tend to get caught up in the riding and “forgo/forget” blinking. The excess water glosses over my vision.
Blood pressure and a number of things could effect your eyes during physical stress.
Went to the doctor and was Diagnosed with genetic hypertension ( high blood pressure).
I take a pill every day since then and no problems.
Prilosec?
Here’s a list of PPI’s.
omeprazole (Prilosec, Prilosec OTC, Zegerid)
lansoprazole (Prevacid)
pantoprazole (Protonix)
rabeprazole (Aciphex)
esomeprazole (Nexium)
dexlansoprazole (Dexilant
Pit Row
Did you ever figure out the issue? I’m dealing with this now and am starting to worry my days of riding are over.
hyperventilating can cause vision changes...how hard are you pushing on those two laps lol
Going to the gym consistently seemed to help, I raced a few months ago and didnt notice it. But now 99.99% of the time I'm a pw dad/mechanic.
Your days arent over, just focus on diet, fluid intake, and riding shape. I heard a pro in an interview mention they were working on getting their eyes up to speed after an injury. So I think its a being off the bike for extended periods of time problem.
I noticed it once a couple years ago and thought maybe I was still a little foggy from the night before, this winter I did a hillcross snowmobile race and it was deadly, couldn’t see like any details, just objects. Since then I recently lost between 40-50 lbs, in the best shape of my life, I can only ride a time or two a month. First time this year it was bad, this last time not AS bad. But still looking for a solution. Going to try eye drops, a different helmet/ goggles
So, I had the same issue for the last 5 years. I almost quit riding because it was annoying and dangerous. I figured it was because I was fat and out of shape, but it was happening when I was just sitting at home or work too, so it wasn't just during strenuous activity. I went to the doctor and they had me get MRI's, Catscans, stress tests, and so forth. I was up to $50,000 worth of tests because of random blurred vision. The doctors couldn't figure anything out. I had Lasik done in 2015, so I went back there and they said everything looks good. I was baffled. I was sad, angry, depressed, etc. I decided to go to the optometrist as the last resort. I told him all of my issues and what the previous doctors had done, he laughed and said, you have diplopia . He did all his tests and confirmed I had an issue with double vision and issued me prism correcting glasses. I used them for a full week and no issues. I went ahead and had custom inserts made for Oakley goggles and I have had zero issues in the past 2 years! Not saying it's your issue, but if someone else is reading this and is at their wits end, this is the route I took.
