If you were anywhere near one of the speakers at Pala hearing the bikes or talking to your friend was not an option. We had good seats in one of the little bleachers where we could see most of the whole track (Which was hard to do) but couldn't handle the speakers after the first 250 moto. NO way to talk to the person next to you without screaming right in their ear. I'm not sure what to call the noise they blasted right before the moto's went off but geezus h effen christ that crap was like some kind of cruel mental torture. The awesome sound of 40 bikes was completely drowned out. Not sure why promoters think mx fans like club / rave music or whatever you call it more than the sound of the bikes. I know they have sound tests overseas but wasn't sure about here. Seems pointless if they do because the bikes were quiet compared to the speakers. I wonder if the riders can hear their bikes on the start ? Anyone else think the speakers took away more than they added ? Sucks getting old I guess

Heard this complaint over the years at several venues, but hadn't heard it in a while. I have no idea why they feel the need to have it that loud

Dude it was so annoying! Horrible music all day too. Part of the fun of going to the races is catching up with people you don’t see very often and I couldn’t hear anybody all day.

Dude, I was sitting up at the top, along the fence and it was still loud way up there. Down by the vendors it was almost unbearable. And I'm a rock musician! I never notice anything is too loud. The fourstrokes blasting past all day were quieter.
The crazy part is that as you walked away from the speaker tower, it didn't get appreciably quieter. In fact, over by the Staycyc display it may have been louder than underneath the speaker array. I sure hope some young kids didn't get permanent hearing damage. (Yes, it was THAT loud. 120 dB for sure, and maybe closer to 130!)

It was horrible, especially the starts. You could not even hear the bikes, just super loud music.

Budds creek has done that in the past as well. It’s disgusting. I want to hear the bikes.

The one sx I went to did the same thing during the starts as well.

I’ll never understand it. The tv broadcast also downplays the sounds of the bikes and makes that a very minimal part of it. They make damn sure we can hear Ralph babble on but never the bikes in a way that makes you take notice.

The bikes are always just light background noise.

Same here, why the fuck do we need music??

Play something before gate drop, but otherwise STFU.. and i am a Comms Guy, I would rather folk need to move to hear it than be unable to speak because of it.

And we wonder why we get noise complaints.

Agreed! Especially that crap before the starts...... I do give the announcer 10 points for using the classic..."Katy bar the door" .....my football coaches use to use that....

Texted my brother who has been to plenty of front row concerts and countless races with me. This was his response...

As soon as a Moto was over I would walk to the top of the hill to my van for a re load on beer. I was parked against the back fence separating camping from daily parking and while at my van I could her podium interviews as if I were at the podium. Once the parade lap, started I would head to a different section for the next Moto. Etc etc. To agree with everyone else, shit was loud, real loud and no I am not just old and bitching could have easily been turned down and same info would have come across, minus that racket they played at the start. Outside of that I had a great time and enjoyed the shit out of the racing. I’m sure I cruised past many of you that day, put quite a few miles on the feet that day.

That shit was so loud, that we listened to the last podium interviews from the highway on the way out.

I wear ear plugs at nationals, not so much for the bikes but the piercing volume of the speakers. I was at Pala and it was way too loud. I understand turning it up to cover the area but a better solution would be to have a set in the middle and a set up on the hill and set at a lower volume. That buzz saw "rev up" they play before the start of the moto is horrible. Please make it stop.

Sucks when things like that end up ruining the day. No matter where you went you couldnt escape the sound. Ironic that bikes need to be decibel checked, but speakers can be 130db

Sadly its a lot cheaper to have one huge speaker bank to deafen everyone, than it is to have a bunch of smaller ones set up properly.

My parents actually had the same problem at Saint Jean D'Angely for a local race but the simple solution was to move to another spot, which they did, and that was much better afterwards.😉

Haha while that is a logical solution... it was really hard to escape. I viewed from about 8 different spots around the track and it was piercing at all of them. Pala has limited viewing, either a flat infield or hillside.

Crawfordsville was insanely loud in 2019, but much, much better this year.
