Pit Row
In Oz the only access we had to international moto in the 80s was via two month old MXAs or a column in the local rags that were usually about three months behind.
I started following MX in the states about 1984 so knew most of the riders but not all. If you’re a true fan you can appreciate the present more if you value the past.
Bring back the SUPERBIKERS!
I got it.
It was fun to see that the names were there and "check myself".
Remembering Gibson's last name took a second...or two.
What I remember about those days...
Watching the factory teams sort their newest/latest bikes out a Golden State Series Races (Thank you Stu Peters!)
Racing 3-4 races a week.
Bikes were SOOOOO cheap!
Drum brakes were SOOOOO bad (Adjusting Dbl Leading Shoe front brakes was an interesting lesson).
Things really did seem simpler then.
Fox Gear and JT Gear were your main choices.
Boots were leather...but, I think Dave's were plastic...like a Storm Trooper from Star Wars
Metzelers were the only choice for Sadlleback and Carlsbad in the summer.
Sun Rims
"Aluminum Silencers" were a big deal.
Rubberband starts at smaller tracks.
The "alternate track" at Avenal...REAL Motocross! (Huron was flooded...'83 GSS!)
Mugen 125s were all the rage in 1980/81...Thanks Johnny O!
Entries were $20-25
Tracks were EVERYWHERE...
You could ride damn near ANYWHERE...
is that from 1982 or 83?
Knee killers
