I'm late to the party I know...but with Brayton not returning to SmartTop (Penrite Honda?) & Mookie not going back either...what's happening on that end? I thought it was one big happy family over there at Tony & Company. Has the money dried up? Are the bikes substandard compared to Honda Factory bikes? Are they even planning on fronting a team for 2021?

I guess I'm wondering most of all why Malcolm left...or wasn't interested in staying. He looked great on the Honda, and he was obviously able to keep his Seven/Shoei/Gaerne gear deals with no issues. Now that he has stepped away from MCR/SmartTop...and Barcia looks to be staying put at Yamaha, where does that leave him if he is adamant about keeping his brother's Seven brand?
You sure Malcolm had an offer from MCR, from which to walk away? I don't know the answer, but I think I know and it sucks.

Nope, I don't...speculation only. And, you're right. He looked pretty damned fast on the MCR Honda...and it sucks if they simply didn't put an offer on the table for 2021.

I wonder if the amount requested to retain Malcolm was too far out of budget to even warrant making an offer...Would love to see him back on MCR so he has redundancy with his set up. Tony has shown the ability to get the most out of his riders, I would think Mookie could jump on the box a couple times if he continues to grow with MCR.

Could be the old deal of the Stewart's wanting more money than the team wants (or has) to give them.

I would agree on the later (i.e. has)

I'd be surprised if Mike Genova shut MCR down, as much as he has said he loves the sport and loves to be an active part of it. And...he probably isn't going broke!

Whoever decides to keep Jr.Hill over Mookie (baring some legitimate financial/contractual reasons) is smoking really good stuff.

We saw what happened when he held out for a deal after his Regional Title, he thinks he is worth a lot more than he is .

What he is worth is what someone is prepared to pay, i dont see MCR being short of people to fill that seat.

Dungey will be on a HRC bike, if he pulls it all together.

Is this really happening? What is it that "he" needs to pull together. Is the offer on the table?

Does anyone have any news on JGR and HEP riders for 2021?

I hope they stay around - they are good for the sport and got really good results in SX.

Dungey needs to gather his own sponsors.

I have a feeling with the lapse that Geico is going to leave at 250 Honda, we might be seeing target taking over as brand sponsor (Target Racing Honda). Dungey was always sponsored by target, and i could see him using that relationship to build a bridge. Just per speculation on my part

It's more likely that Ziggy will pull the pin on the 250 team and concentrate on his core business with AM level individual or team sponsorship.

Regarding Malcolm, I think the big stumbling block is the gear deal. He only wants to wear Seven. MCR has a team deal with Leatt, and my guess is they are paying a good chunk of change to the team. Both Matthes and JT have talked about this being the sticky point, and Matthes and Antonovich talked about this yesterday on the Moto:60 show.

I get the loyalty to Seven on one hand, but on the other hand the sport is a business and sometimes in order to get the best possible bike/team situation, compromises have to be made. This unwavering loyalty to Seven effectively locks him out of MCR, RMATV-MC, HEP and possibly JGR (they have a team deal with Answer but Joey wears Just1).

It didn’t lock him out of MCR. Brayton wore FLY during the same time Malcolm wore Seven. I totally get why he’s locked into Seven. It’s a family deal...and he may have a personal investment in it with James, I don’t know.

I thought Malcolm was a part owner of Seven. Doesn't make much sense to wear anything else in his situation. But i also understand where it would be a stumbling block for potential teams who have team gear deals.

It's not an easy fix.

When Brayton wore Fly at MCR they did not have the gear deal with Leatt in place. In fact I think in 2019 the team may have had a Fly deal as both Brayton and Friese were wearing it.

If Mookie actually has money in Seven then I sort of get it, but I've never read or heard for certainty that he does.

I saw an interview with Malcolm where he said he didn’t get paid by Seven and it’s a family business. Sounded like he is expected to use the gear.

If wearing Seven is a big part of Malcolm not getting on a team, how much longer do you think he is going to be racing?

Also is he still training with Swanepoel? If not it is going to be a big hit to his program.

LOL - half of the athletes on Geico are represented by WMG - if they cannot find a title sponsor for that program, idk.. that's pretty sad.

I can't imagine Honda pulling their 250 team though - you'd think HRC would just pick it up

There's talk of HRC having a 250 program if Factory Connection Honda doesn't find a title sponsor.

Racer X mentions it.
