I tried to buy a replacement stainless can for my FMF and was told no go but just go buy a complete fresh unit.
On a used bike that's a tough sell.
When I road raced and dealt with D& D, M4, Yosh after a crash you could always buy parts to keep going.
I'm not expecting free stuff.
I like FMF product but the lack of parts to rebuild a muffler is a big turn off to be honest.
PC offers a replacement muffler but it's 80% of the cost of a complete unit.

You can always afford to help an existing customer. How much do they spend in advertising to attract one product sale from a new customer? How much is it worth to retain an existing customer and project a positive brand image? FMF doesn't have to give him a free exhaust, but they could offer some assistance. In the end what does it really cost them? Even if they are in the right it makes them look unconcerned and uncompassionate to the general public.

We only hear the complaints of the person who didn't get their way so that may be why you think FMF looks unconcerned and uncompassionate to the general public. We only get to listen to the person who thinks they should have a life time warranty on racing parts and not FMFs version, either way its not a warranty issue.

You don't seem to comprehend what you read very well. Thats not what I said at all. I didn't propose that FMF just give him a new exhaust or that they owed a warranty claim. The exhaust was obviously not repacked and was damaged.

I spent the last 25 years working in customer service for a huge world wide automotive corporation that has Porsche, Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Ferrari and other premium brands with over 500 dealerships. I spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on customers that really didn't deserve it but felt they were owed it because they purchased a premium brand from a premium company. The cost to "HELP" them far offsets the cost of loosing their business forever. Doesn't FMF portray themselves as the premium brand? Its not about being right, its about protecting your brand and public image.

What I explained is that its well worth the cost to "HELP" an existing customer just to retain them and their family and friends as customers. FMF spends many thousands of dollars in advertising to attract new customers that "MIGHT" buy a product. An existing customer has already bought the product and is far more likely to purchase additional products. They also refer family and friends to purchase products. This is the best and most effective advertising you can have. FMF could have sold him the pipe he needs at a discount to demonstrait how much they appreciate the business and patronage.

If FMF had made an effort to "HELP" this guy, he would probably be posting something positive about them. Now for as long as he lives he will tell people what an unreliable product it is and what a bad company FMF is.
I gave ya two thumbs up because you're not wrong; however, taking someone's word for it that FMF totally blew them off is also...well...there's always two sides to every story...right?

Btw, you ever notice how EVERYBODY was "just riding along" and their shit broke?
Or...how EVERYBODY takes perfect care of their car/bike?

Yup! He welded up a cracked PC silencer for me and it looked great! Highly recommended!

No mine was from a crash. And I’m not bashing FMF, I just don’t understand why they wouldn’t help out a already existing customer?? All I needed was for them to roll out the sheet metal on the can and rivet it back together.. wouldn’t take them very long and I wanted to pay for it.

I’m not upset by their decision. I just don’t understand why they wouldn’t work with me, when everyone else has..and yes I spoke directly to Lil D.

Just confused and stated my experience take it for what you will.

I wasn't intending to down play your story. It's just that this -is- the web. We see this kind of thing all the time, that's all.

I was remonded of the "JRA" (Just Riding Along) thing that I'd learned about from friends in the bicycle business. That one always makes me laugh.

I've seen the folks at FMF go out of their way to help folks out; but, I do know they take the warranty aspect of this stuff fairly seriously.

Sad part is that the OP has not even contacted FMF to begin with.

Don't take this the wrong way...I'm not trying to be insulting or rude but honestly, two years is a good run. I'd say you got your money's worth. On the other hand...there's no excuse for any retailer to be rude even if they are saying, "no". If FMF doesn't have or offer a repair capability...they need to get one. It may not bring in the cash of new sales but happy customers are always a good investment. My .02
Whaaas? 2 years for a $1,000 exhaust. That’s madness. Packing, sure. The sticker, yep. Crash and damage it absolutely. But 2 years holy hell what are you doing to your bike.

Bingo lol. Maybe if he is a proven loyal customer or a once every 5 years customer. Warranty for a 2 year dirt bike part is a no go. If he is loyal customer, maybe help with pricing on parts, or repair. Or replacement.
I wasn’t looking for a brand new exhaust. I was just curious if anyone has dealt with their customer service. I noticed it when I was removing it to do a top end and just figured I’d to see if was even worth my time to talk to them

Obviously I not looking for them to replace it. If I did this purposefully then I would have not posted this in the first place. I have repacked the muffler before and planned to do it again, I just found it odd that it cracked right there. If I contact them and they say “yea that’s from lack of maintenance” then that’s on me but if they so “no we’ve had problems with them cracking right there” then that’s why this post is here. On my last bike I tipped over in a corner and some dude plowed me and ruined my muffler, not ever three rides on it yet. I didn’t try to contact fmf because it was not their fault it got smashed it was mine so I just had to but the bullet and bought another one.

They offer a couple different repacks, and depending on which one you bought and then the level/type of riding your doing - you could be missing enough material to lead to that type of damage. Not saying that’s you’re case, but it’s possible.

My titanium 4.1 mid pipe cracked from a defect in the material. It was fairly new no receipt. I asked if I can just buy the mid pipe. Since they are all separate from the muffler. They told me nope and get it welded. No more fmf for me.
All this FMF hate had me worried. I damaged my Ti mid-pipe in a crash last week. I just got off the phone with tech support. I am not sure who you talked to but they have them in stock and are sending me out one today for $170.

Will buy FMF again without consideration. Are you sure you didn't get denied warranty? Smile

Yeah, I'm not sure where the hate comes from. I've used FMF for 23 years now, I've had one single problem (I've had literally 50+ exhaust systems from them) that I would consider a manufacturing defect and it was replaced on the spot no questions asked by Paul in the box van.

Great company, pure moto. My bikes get nothing but FMF, especially due to the unwavering support of the Kurt Caselli Foundation.

If you find an event they are working, they usually have spare parts on the truck and can fix you up.

I had a similar negative experience with FMF customer service on a broken midpipe. I wanted to see if I could pay to have it repaired or purchase just a new midpipe. Was told I'd have to buy the whole muffler and midpipe. But in their defense I went by the shop and spoke politely in person with someone about my issue and they did take care of me by selling just the midpipe at a discounted price. At the end of the day it took more work than it should've to get some good customer service. I also went with another brand when I did purchase a new pipe for my next bike.

Next time I’m in there area. I’ll stop by. I’m not riding right now anyway. I can’t find anyone who will weld titanium

Any issues they will come and talk to me, let's get you dialed! Although 2 years things can happen and exhaust take a lot of abuse but we want to make sure you are happy! thanks

I’m 11 days out from an email to sales@fmfracing. Need a part number for a 2018 Yz450f 4.1 slip on carbon end cap. Lucky me a strap let loose and my bike flipped out of the trailer and drug a few feet on the street breaking my end cap. I’m a pretty loyal FMF customer, did the drop box for over a year, Exclusively fun FMF products on my bikes. Don’t want anything free, just need to know what to Order. thanks for any info.
